For the sake of my sanity, I’m assuming that we basically merge with the events of the Game Changers novel at some point as in Scott and Kip reconcile, Scott starts to come out to a few teammates/coach/agent and meets Kip’s dad before finally saying screw it at the game. Also, those were clearly Scott’s tickets. Seriously, game 6 at MSG when the Rangers Admirals hadn’t won in more than 3 decades we are talking 5k a pop.
Please for the love of God for a single moment consider the precedent you're setting when you suggest that any man who is the slightest bit gender-nonconforming or affectionate with other men or not toxically masculine who hasn't come out as queer is "queer-baiting." For one fucking second think about what you are implying. For one fucking second think about what you are obligating men to do in order to avoid "queer-baiting." And then, when you're done thinking about that, for the love of God think about how the word "queer-bait" specifically refers to writers implying fictional characters might be queer in order to attract a queer audience without ostracizing a straight one, and what that says about how you are viewing these real life human beings. Are you under the impression that they don't have agency over their own bodies? That everything they do exists to attract and entertain an audience? Do they exist for your consumption? What is wrong with you.

Looking at this again, makes me think that this is being used as part of the top of ep 6. The biggest tip off is we can see the crowd in the bottom of the frame even though for the most part the crowd is added as CGI, but also, those two camera people are visible at the end of ep 5 and in a show that has be meticulous about not having camera people captured in shots despite filming in rooms with so many windows and mirrors (i.e., this was no easy feat), if we see camera people then they are part of the shot. Many of the teammates aren't paying attention, but the two people in front who are cheering the most seem to be Carter and his gf Gloria. So what if Tierney, in his brilliance, wanting to capture that Scott had started coming out to a few close friends like in the books but only having a little bit of screentime to work, has Scott handing Kip off to Carter or Gloria show him where to go with the WAGs while he talks to the reporters and Carter says the "you must be Kip. all the kissing was the tip off" line that Huff says in the book? Quick on ice interviews followed by the MVP award speech and just like that we establish just enough of the reconciliation timeline in the book to make it all make sense.

François Arnaud and Robbie G.K. shed light on Skip's status in the three years we didn't see them.
This reading makes no sense to me and contradicts what Arnaud let slip in the Glamour article, i.e., that they shifted the timeline during editing and didn't film originally with a long separation in mind. I get the whole romcom thing, but 3 years to I love you without some reconciliation makes zero sense.

In an industry full of lazy writing where a lesser showrunner would just ignore problems and think “close enough” can we all appreciate that Tierney recognized that the timeline for Skip didn’t work and changed it despite already being in editing? Ballsy move. Here’s hoping he fills in the alternate timeline.

Also, for all the people saying Scott couldn't have given him those seats because they were too high up or maybe they were Elena's, tell me you've never been to a hockey game before or knew anyone with access to corporate tickets. Those were excellent seats. If they were truly high up, 1) Scott wouldn't have been able to see him, 2) Kip wouldn't have been able to get past security to walk down to the ice, and 3) he definitely wouldn't have made it down in under a minute. Tickets are expensive so there's no way Scott would have Kip pay for tickets. Finally, Elena would have had to have been the friggin CEO to get championship game tickets through her company.

Because we like men but cishet men are so insufferable that they can’t be fixed even within the fantastical confines of the average romance novel. Serious, it’s 2025 and we’re tired.
So Scott really just said, "come on, man. No need to kick me while I'm down just like that dickbag Russian." And then he's getting berated by his little buddy during a losing streak and emotional roller coaster of a month
Quick reminder (because some of the people out there need a refresher) that pitting underrepresented groups against each other and championing the idea of the "model minority" are ideas on page one of the oppressor handbook. I am old enough to remember a time when people like me went from never being represented on TV and in movies, to being only represented in niche roles (and clearly not written by people like me), to actually seeing some real diversity. Do I liked or even watched everything that comes out now? No, because I'm not the universal audience nor do I have infinite time. I am however happy that it is out there because this is progress and those other shows speak to other people. It is ok to want to watch RWRB but not be into Fellow Travelers. It's ok, to like Fellow Travelers, but not be into Heartstoppers. And it's ok to like all of those things, but not be into Heated Rivalry. All the same, 1) stop yucking other people's yum and 2) don't pretend that it's not a big deal that the biggest show right now is a Canadian show written and directed by a gay man, based on books by a queer woman and with a cast that features multiple out LGBTQ actors. This show is so huge that cishet male hockey fans are talking about it with love and respect and not because it is pandering to the straights. There isn't one way to be a member of a minority group and crapping on your own people doesn't make you cool especially given how much the people who came before you had to sacrifice to get you to where you are today.
