The London Sherlock Guidebook has been updated! Find it here.
It’s not revised - @sincerely-chaos and I haven’t been around London checking to see what’s been knocked down/rebuilt - but it now contains the two shooting locations in Cheltenham, i.e. the restaurant and cafe from The Empty Hearse. Also the Aldwych tube station page has been updated.
Reblogs of this post are appreciated as I (pennypaperbrain) originally published the guidebook over two years ago, so some newer fans might not be aware of it. It’s a 90-page complete guide to every known Sherlock location in London, with screencaps, maps, directions and contemporary photos showing shooting angles.
If anyone has any stories of their experience using the guidebook, we’d love to hear them.
The BEST vacation plan ever! Seriously, every time we go to London I pull this beauty out and we figure out what we’re gonna see next. This forced me to figure out how to take the bus (spider maps FTW), and we’ve never looked back. Looking forward to our next outside of London adventures as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Excellent! I’m curious - how many of the locations have you managed to cover? Are you aiming to do them all?

Forthcoming Guidebook Update!
Coming soon: Cheltenham appendix to the London Sherlock Guidebook! The restaurant and the cafe scenes from The Empty Hearse were filmed there. I’m wondering though, is there anyone out there who’s still interested?

The main part of the meet-up will be around early afternoon, with a possible evening meal/drinks. In general things are still in the planning stage, so do send me a message if you have any suggestions. there will be a Sherlock Tour, thanks to the lovely @pennypaperbrain. *** update ***
November 4th (Saturday): we’ll be meeting at 1:30 pm on the stairs of St. Pancras Church (NW1 2BA, more details here) - I have short brown hair and will be wearing a white & brown checkered skirt and a yellow & black checkered scarf. We’ll go an a Sherlock Tour first (at 2pm) and will end up at Sherlock Holmes Pub for some food/drink at around 5pm. You’ll free to join at any point, just send me a message and I’ll let you know where we are (I have the tumblr app on my phone). The weather forecast doesn’t look very promising at the moment (rain…), so please check it on the day and dress accordingly as we will be spending up to 3 hours outdoors. Also, please remember about filling out this form if you haven’t done it yet.
About the tour: the lovely @pennypaperbrain will be our guide. As the tour is absolutely free (!!!), please consider making a donation to Bipolar UK. Thank you.
November 2nd (Thursday): I am meeting with @missmuffin221 at The Rose and Crown pub in Ealing at around 6pm and we’re looking forward to meeting some other Sherlockians there as well - please do come and join us, even if you’re also attending the Saturday meet up ;)
I’m doing another tour! Details above.
I’ll have to skip out at 5.30 to go to fireworks with some friends, but should have everyone safely parked in the pub by then.
Tomorrow now! I will be joining you all on the steps at 2pm.
Anyone using the guide?
I’m just uploading a revised version of the file (no new content, just fixed some errors) and see that the original has been downloaded 2,941 times!
Some people have messaged or reblogged to say thank you and squee - for which thanks in return - but what we haven’t had yet is any accounts or photos of people actually using it in London.
We would love some of this!

Free London Sherlock tour: 26 October
For people passing through London on their way to the Sherlocked convention, I’ll be doing a free tour on Thursday 26 October.
Meet at noon at the entrance to the ticket hall of Euston Railway Station. I will be holding the Purple Folder of All Knowledge (aka the printed-out guide). I don’t want to put a phone number up here, but I’ll be checking this tumblr on the day.
It would be helpful to know in advance who is coming. You can also just turn up, but if you’re late we won’t be waiting.
First stop, Speedy’s! Exactly how much ground we cover will depend on walking speed, but the route will take in a couple of dozen locations, some major and some tiny, including Speedy’s, Russell Square (where Mike bumped into John), Angelo’s, the Diogenes Club, Sherlock and Faith’s bus stop and riverside bench, and probably a trip a few tube stops along to Barts. We should be done by six.
If you’re in town and don’t want to hear me enthusing about the Depressing Grey Pillars in person, you can of course self-guide yourself around the locations using the guidebook.
Reminder for Thursday.
Only two people confirmed so far. I know a lot of others said they might; not tagging so as not to pressure anyone.

Sherlock actually said that
“Well I like you”
He said that to John…out of his own volition….without being threatened to say it…..no one was taken as hostage, it wasn’t a statement made under duress, they’re just there…walking an unwalkable dog
And Sherlock said
“Well I like you”
to John
There are a total of about five red phone boxes left in the whole of London, and Sherlock gets up close and personal with all of them.

All my Sherlock TfL posters, 26 in total.
I’m thinking about having them printed in A4. I also plan to publish two A6 postcardbooks that will contain 13 different motifs each. Prints and postcardbooks are going to be available at my storenvy.
I want each and every one of them! 😍👏🏻
221 Things I Love About Sherlock
#93: Sherlock walking “*uck off” on the map, just to annoy Mycroft.
Iconic.
Actually there is an ‘F’ on the ‘uck’ if you look hard. I worked it out and included it in the London Locations Guide (see the home page of this journal to download...)
Wouldn’t it be nice to meet in London (UK) next month? Yes it would! If you fancy a meet-up, please fill this little form out and lets see if we can plan something :)

Making this audio walking tour was so much fun, from the planing stages all the way to playing with panning in this stereo mix. @pennypaperbrain had an endless supply of insights and annectodes and I’m so relieve to share more of them in this form.
As we visited different locations I kept thinking about how it helped me imagine pieces of these characters lives. Reading fic since the tour, I can hear Tesco during the necessary milk runs, the traffic burrs and whines, the extreme calm and quiet of Diogenes.
As a first time doing this kind of field recording and editing, I pretty happy with how it all worked out. Hope some of you enjoy it too!
Enhance your experience of the show with a London tour!
