This is an awful idea.  This idea should have never even come to be, nor should Luc have had to be the one to bring it to fruition.

Teach the bear magic.  This was going to be a long day.  A disastrous one at that.

Luc wouldn’t have minded this notion as much if that bear of a man had any sort of skill in magic to begin with.  His magical affinities were average at best and pitiable at worst, not to mention his lack of ability to even use some types of magic at all.  Just how was Luc supposed to train someone with that little skill?  The only sort of plans Luc could have in regards to make him be any sort of magical threat were to turn him into a sacrificial lamb (or bear?) of sorts.

…perhaps that wasn’t a bad idea actually.

The faint vibration in the ground drew Luc’s fixated gaze on the grass upwards, the bear was a bit late, but Luc was half hoping expecting for him to just not show up at all.  The mage stood up then, dusting his robes off before addressing the other.

“Took your time, didn’t you?”  Had Luc even given him a specific location on where he would be waiting?  He couldn’t recall, honestly.  …that may have been on purpose.

Shu was crazy, Viktor decided. Definitely insane and he had to talk to Riou about finding a strategist that was actually sane as soon as possible. 

He thought of himself as the kind of man that can be depended on getting his hands dirty on the battlefield. Magic was an unknown territory for him - it was a very flashy sort of attack, sure. Nice to look at, fast and deadly - all three things that don’t really describe Viktor very well.

“I had important things that had to be done first.” Viktor replied, simply.

Forests were okay. Forests with possible Russian vampires in them? Less okay.

Viktor still hasn’t gotten a complete grasp of Russian even after living for about three weeks. However, he did pick up some words when he asked for directions towards the woods, including, “crazy”, “foreigner”, and “eaten.” 

He trudged through the darkness with a torch in hand, the moon a pale white disc floating in the sky. Shadows loomed around him menacingly, dark and tall. If he dropped this torch, the man thought. This whole forest would surely go up in flames. He supposed he was never really known for his brains. 

He reached a clearing with a small cabin that would’ve looked inhabited if he hadn’t known better. Of course, there may be more than one isolated vampire in this forest so he may as well not get his hopes up too high. He was not sure what to expect - he has only seen one vampire and probably the worst one there is. However, they were such things as ‘docile vampires’ he’s been told but Viktor found it hard to believe with such pale faces and how they led lives filled with deceit that they can be anything but murderous. 

He took a deep breath and convinced himself that this was his only chance. That whoever was in here could help him. Be optimistic. The worst that can happen is that you can become one too.

Hard knuckles pound against the wooden door with a force that shook the rotten wood. 

“Oi! Is anybody home?”

Palom made a small noise of distaste at having his hair ruffled, he didn’t wanna have to get Porom to re-braid his hair!  Long way to go though?  That’s what he thinks!  Palom’s a prodigy mage, he’s better than anyone else here!  Well, maybe except the Elder, but that’s a given!

“You say that now, but wait until you see my magic!  And what are you talking about?  I live here!  My parents sent me and my sister here to learn magic!  You’re the lost one here, old man!  Who are you anyway?”

“Viktor. I’m a travelling mercenary from the City-State of Jowston.” He grinned easily. Maybe a bit too far - it seemed as if he might’ve been relying too much on his intuition rather than an actual map.

“Are you planning to get drunk for the fifth night in a row, or…” Flik sighed. He had only gotten back from his job in Toran earlier that week. “Or are you holding that mug of beer as a prop?”

Viktor shrugged. “Hey, some of us like to have fun - unlike others who disappear for months without even a letter! We thought you had died or somethin’. Taken down by rogue bandits. Did you see the flowers?”

“Pouring your drink down your throat is just going to make you get inebriated all the more quickly.  Or is that your goal?”  She hums before taking a sip from her glass, no need to rush her indulgence, “Hm, as much as I appreciate it, I don’t think it suits you.  I shall allow you to just call me Sierra.

“But isn’t that all part of the fun?” He smiled with a tilt of his head. With a nod, he said, “Heh, yeah - I think Sierra suits you just fine too.”

“’Mistress Sierra’?”  She mimics his words with a touch of a laugh, Sierra hadn’t expected him to refer to her as such, but she wouldn’t complain about it by any stretch.  

“Cheers,” he certainly knew how to celebrate she’d give him that.  Although he was a bit too brash for her tastes, but perhaps that had a bit of a charm in its own right.

“I was trying it out.” He shrugged, downing the drink in his cup. It probably wouldn’t stick. Formalities were never Viktor’s forte.

She tilts her head up at the weight resting on her frame, feeling rather dwarfed suddenly in comparison with Viktor.  His forearm alone was considerably longer than her shoulders.

“Hm, it seems you know a weakness of mine.  I certainly can’t say no to that offer.”

“Heh, alright!” He cleared his throat and held up his large beer to the roof. With a loud voice, he exclaimed, “Here’s to us! Viktor and Mistress Sierra, to defeating Neclord!”

Of course, Viktor had already made ten toasts during the celebratory party a few days ago when it ended. It never really stopped for the mercenary.

He laughed and wrapped a large arm around the smaller woman. “Oi, Sierra! What’dya think of having a toast?”

“Old man, you should know to travel with a map!  Even I know that!”  He laughs a bit loudly as he says this, pointing his rod up at the much taller man.  How does one get lost on an island like Mysidia anyway?  Did he get shipwrecked or something?

“You’re in Mysidia, and I’m the greatest Black Mage here, Palom!  Remember my name, I’m going to become the greatest Sage who ever lived!”

Mysidia? He scratched his head. Oh boy, looks like he got a long way back. 

Viktor laughed and ruffled the small boy’s head. Well, Palom certainly had spunk at least. And kids with spunk and the mouth to announce such things are good in Viktor’s book. 

“Looks like you still got a long way to go to me. Where are your parents, kid? Ya lost or somethin’?”
