Once upon a time, long ago
Hi y'all, this blog has been with me for a long time and bittersweetly I have made the decision to leave Tumblr forever. This blog has been a huge chapter in my book, but now I'm ready to start the next one. I've been slowly leaving social media for a few years now and Tumblr is one of the last few on my list before going almost totally offline. Thank you to everyone who has been with me in this chapter of my life, this blog has been around from 2019-2026.
I'm going to leave some resources below which are mostly mindfulness websites to help center or ground yourself when you need it. I am very excited to get into my hobbies such as reading more philosophy, and doing a lot of self work but keeping in touch with my hobbies and values. All of which I have been practicing for a long time now with support, and finally I have a solid foundation to work with.
When I started going on the Internet, especially this website, I lacked a lot of resources and support systems irl, so this blog became a journal and a diary for all my struggles, hopes, dreams, thoughts, and passions. The one place I could tell my story with little worries. Now, the benefits of being offline are much greater, I have more supports which have helped me stand on my own. As I have been working on myself staying online has been more harmful than beneficial the farther down the line I get in my recovery and healing. All the things that being online has helped and supported me with from past to present, I am replacing them with things offline that meet those same support needs.
I can't delete this blog because I'd like my side blogs ( @indigenous-poc-culture-is and @this-is-aave ) to stay up since they contain resources. But I hope if anyone reads this you know you have the power to take back your life one step at a time, however healing and recovery or just finding yourself looks like for you. Everyone's story is different. This has been years in the making for me, not a story that starts and ends on the same page. If you'd like to take a chapter from my book or hear what I've learned; Use the resources you can when you can, whether they may be. Set goals, whether that's one 5 minutes from now and that the only goals for the month, or a long term life worth living goal. Life is not a race, you have all the time in the world to achieve your goals. Rest is paramount, even if you have to rest and do "nothing" for the rest of your life that's okay. Identify your values, how are your actions in line with them? Practice skills, especially mindfulness- don't force yourself into how it commonly presents. Mindfulness is not sitting in meditation for 5 minutes and feeling cured, sometimes it's drawing, sometimes it's listening to music. Leave the social media you can, find groups locally or virtually. Focus on meeting your basic needs regularly before all the other things. Accommodate yourself whenever however you can. When/if leaving social media, determine how you will meet the needs it provides offline- if you use it for socializing how will you find community or social circles offline? If you use it for information what local/virtual resources can you get your information from (newspaper, library, local college)? If you use it for art references how are you going to keep in contact with your favorite artists work (I recommend buying their books). If you want to leave social media because of hate are there low-stakes social media like streaming you can watch?
Below are some of those mindfulness, relaxation, and cutesy websites for when you need them.
