sometimes you just need to crouch under your horse’s buckets and cry as they nuzzle your hands. It’s therapeutic.

A bit of a bad news update.
Ringo is on stall rest for an unknownmbut severe lameness. He presented quite lame at the trot (rear left hind) a few weeks ago. He got some bute and a few days off. He was used in a lesson (though apparently wasnt 100%) and another few days off. He was still lame at the trot when I brought him in at that point. He did have a bit of swelling on his left stifle (looked like a kick in the area) and was standing with his hind left leg extended. Called the vet.
Vet was quite concerned. She was wonderful though. Gave her a full history. She gave a thorough exam. Flexed him and confirmed upper left hind was the area of lameness. At that point there was no swelling or heat the vet could find. She may have found some way up in between his legs (I dont even know which muscles). After some discussion, we decided on 2 weeks of stall rest with a follow up appointment at the end of the time period.
If it is muscular, he should be much better and we can discuss a return to turnout and work.
If he is not better, it is likely that he has a fracture (hairline or chip). We will xray to try to find it. I'm not 100% sure what the options are at that point but I would assume more stall rest. Surgery may be on the table but it is not likely one i could afford or would choose to put Ringo through.
He has handled stall rest well. I've been out most nights to visit him and walk him a bit. He loves fresh shavings and eating good hay all day. There is another horse on stall rest and lots of activity to keep him entertained.
I'm considering moving Ringo for a number of reasons but will be waiting to get a prognosis from the vet.
It has been a super tough few weeks.
I’m so sorry Sam. Sending hugs and lots of love. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. Always here for you and Ringo ❤️
Big stink is not sure why he was ridden 2 days in a row 💕
