Hey, I’m not one to judge. Online dating is really common, I don’t see the problem with it, love.
Well, hey, maybe you could try it? I mean, I could help you set up a profile and everything. I bet you'd get connections in a heartbeat.

Hi- sorry- are you looking at me or behind me?
Still better than me.
Are you sure? I mean that's comforting and you didn't burst out laughing the moment I said 'online dating profile' so that's a good thing, I think.
Like I said. People don’t notice me. I’ve never dated anyone, never even been asked.
Ok, guilty admission time...
All the dates I've ever been on have been because of my online dating profile. I've never actually been on like...a date where somebody asks me out to my face, properly...
Hey at least you’ve had a date. I haven’t.
No way, you are totally messing with me right now.
You've never had a date? Not even a bad one? I've had so many bad ones.
Oh my god, there's a petting zoo in Central Park. I had no idea. This is going to be the start of a very serious cute animal addiction, I can feel it.
I know, so gross and crawly. Ugh.
Good, I happen to ramble a lot. I think it’s an artist thing?
An artist thing huh? Hmm, you might be right. I think you might be right about that. I can't even tell you the number of dates I've ruined having started to ramble about the dorkiest stuff, it's like my brain goes into self sabotage mode the moment I sit down and try to impress somebody.
Ewwww! Just thinking about it is giving me the heebie-jeebies. I hate spiders. Ew!
I’ve never met anyone who understood either. Everyone just looks at me like I’m weird and too much of a nerd. They’re art to me though. They tell fantastic stories in the best way possible, by making you a part of it. And when you get emotionally and morally invested in the characters? Amazing. It’s like becoming another person and having another life. I just…love it. I want to create character’s that make people cry and laugh and root for. Sorry, I’m rambling again, aren’t I?
Oh me too, me too, I hate them, mice and bugs and rats and lizards, I can deal with that stuff but spiders, no way!
Right? Oh my god, you just get me. You just get it. I love it. A little, only a little...I like rambling, I could listen to you talk about this stuff all day.
Maybe because it’s my own.
You write music? Cool.
I mean, it's a little angsty but...cool.

Patrick “Paddy” Phillips is a twenty-three year old student. He is majoring in computer science with a minor in graphic design, and is a waiter at Ristorante Rosso. He identifies as homosexual and is single. This character is played by Jonathan Groff and taken.
→ biography
Patrick grew up in a Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the third of three children and has both an older brother and older sister. His father and mother own a small Irish pub in Minneapolis where they and his eldest brother Peter work. Patrick grew up surrounded by laughter and liquor, adored by his family whom he cherishes just as much but he never planned on staying in Minnesota after graduation and applied to colleges all over the country and in Canada. Patrick consciously established his sexuality when he was fifteen years old. On the way home from camp in a dimly lit bus a friend of his made a move, placing Patrick’s hand on his own crotch and motioning for Patrick to take control. The pair never spoke of the event and Patrick doesn’t know what became of his friend from the bus but he considers it a turning point in his life, the moment when he knew for certain that he was gay. Paddy is yet to come out as a homosexual to his parents. His close friends are well aware of his sexuality and yet he hasn’t made it known to his parents nor siblings. If asked, Paddy will claim that he has simply never found the right time to express himself and that it’s nothing more than that but sincerely, he’s afraid of how his mother and father will react to him. Though they’ve been nothing but supportive of him in his life, the whole idea of them thinking of their son as gay bothers him. He plans on coming out to them eventually but tries not to think about it all that often. Paddy has come to New York to pursue his studies in computer science, post graduation he hopes to land a job with the NYC branch of TakeTwo, a video game company that he has dreamed of working for ever since he picked up a PlayStation controller. He is passionate about his studies but he becomes easily distracted, often spending time in lectures on Tumblr or checking his OkCupid profile instead of taking down notes. Though he is close to graduating it is his first year in New York City and he is still very much getting used to it.
→ personality
Patrick may come across as a little shy at times but he almost always opens up to people he feels comfortable around. He is rarely abrasive but has a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, particularly after a glass of wine or two. He is essentially harmless and rarely makes enemies despite his occasional awkwardness. He is well focused when he wants to be but Paddy is a dreamer, he has a habit of escaping reality and delving deep into his imagination, fantasizing for hours on end about what life could be like someday. He denies the idea that he is actively looking for a boyfriend but truthfully, he would love to be in a solid relationship and thinks that a partner might just provide the push he needs to come out to his family.
You got a problem, man?
Me? No. No, why would I? Did I make a weird face?
Tea is delicious, if you keep hanging out with me then you will probably acquire a taste for it. Rice pudding is disgusting. Ugh. It’s like there are little beads in the pudding and it’s unnatural.
R-really? I’m just easily excited when it comes to this stuff. It’s my passion. Adorable, though? [Laughs softly] I’d love to. I’m excited already.
Oh my god, right?! That's exactly my issue with it! I feel like I'm eating...like...spider eggs or something! Yuck!
I get it, I totally get it, I've just never really known anybody else who totally gets it before. I mean, people like video games but nobody else I know really sees them as an art form, as visual and literary expression as much as a movie or a book. You know?
Europe is nice, if you can get over the cultural differences. Oh, and you kind of need to like tea. There’s always tea. And pudding. Or maybe that’s just the ways of the British?
If you ever need characters for something I’d be happy to help. That is my forte after all. I really love the idea of being the mind behind an iconic character like Commander Sheppard or Leon from Resident Evil. I want to work at Bioware so badly.
Tea I could probably do, I mean I don't hate tea or anything, I guess I've just never really had a lot of it. Pudding is awesome though...except for rice pudding, that's kinda gross.
I love the way you talk about this stuff, your passion and everything. It's adorable and inspiring. I say we start working on our game as soon as possible, do you wanna come over after dinner?
It wasn’t really a vacation. My biological mother lives in Russia and I spent the year there to get to know my family. It was really beautiful though, and you should have seen the lights in winter in Moscow. One of the most breathtaking sights.
Um, sure? They’re mostly character sketches and designs. Like concept art for games. I love creating characters. It’s kind of my niche. Scenes are cool to though.
That's so cool, my whole family lives in Minneapolis...it's not nearly as beautiful, I bet. I'd love to go to Europe one day, I don't know, maybe when I graduate or something, unless I get a job, I guess.
I promise I'll try not to totally steal any of your awesome characters for my next demo game. Character development is my downfall, I suck! I usually just design a guy and a girl from standard models.
I’ve been mugged once. In Russia. It was freaky. I lost like $40.00 that day. Not cool.
If you jinxed us then I will not be happy. But I have nothing on me except my sketchbook and several art pencils. So I don’t think I’d make a good mark.
You were in Russia? No kidding, that's awesome. I've never really been anywhere exciting like that. I mean, my family went to Disneyworld one time but that's...that's about as thrilling as our vacations went.
Oh, you've got your sketch book? Am I allowed to take a little peek?
I’m a stupid whore and a frigid bitch, now can you make up your mind and tell me which is which? Oh, now I get it, you think I’m ugly. Yeah, tell your friends how you never woulda done me. You’re tryna tell me sexism doesn’t exist? If it doesn’t exist, then what the fuck is this? How many boys will it destroy? How many girls and boys will it annoy?
I don't think I know that song...
