This is exactly why Caine put the error message there. Caine thinks that people would just go vote for him instead of continuing to attempt voting for the character the voter originally selected. The original post shows that some people actually did do this.

When I got the error message, I did not vote for Caine and instead kept trying to vote for the character I originally attempted to vote for. After you keep trying to vote for the character of your choice 2-3 times, your vote will eventually go through:
