Try and Put Me Down

"It's like, I want to explain how I feel. I really do, but there are no words in the dictionary for it. It's like their hidden, deep inside the dictionary, so I can't find them and tell everyone who asks, how I really feel. So I cover it with words that so many people would rather hear. "I'm fine, I swear". If those words were not there stopping me from saying everything and the words in the dictionary came out of their hiding place and helped me. I wouldn't be so sad and quiet and muddled inside.

“No, you’re still the same Lorcan, just taller,” she chuckled. “I am, I’ve been very busy the past few years; I’ve been filming this tv show, and I’ve been in a few films. I even got nominated for an Oscar, which is like the biggest acting award. 2 kids?” Nikki gasped. “How old are they? Do you have any pictures?”

“Oh, really?  Congratulations,”  He nodded.  “I’ll have to make sure to keep your films on the lookout, then.”  Lorcan said, making a mental note to watch her latest movies.  “Yeah, two kids.  Selene is the oldest, she’s five.  Then there’s her brother, Evander, who’s three,”  He said, pulling out two pictures from his jacket to show a brunette girl and a blonde little boy.

“I would be doing you a service if I threw up on them. That way, you have an excuse to get new shoes—oh, I think that kid is going to pee on your shoes!” She pointed at some toddler who had wandered up to Annabelle.

Lorcan’s eyes rested on the toddler that had come up to Annabelle.  Protecting himself and his niece from potentially being wet-on, he picked up Annabelle again and took several steps away.  “Can’t I go one trip without my shoes getting messed up, even if they are ugly.”

“I know, thats why you have me, to make sure you have some stories to reminisce about when we’re old,” she told him playfully, a laugh escaping her lips. “I’m sure you do, and spending time with Maria and Lys when the borders were closed,” she smiled, remembering how he had escaped to her house for awhile.

Lorcan laughed at the thought.  “Yeah, I definitely think you’ll give me more stories to tell once we’re older.”  He nodded, a smile forming on his face.  “That was the summer that I realized how thin the walls were between my room and Lysander’s room.  I was glad to get out of the house.”

“Still sort of a surprise since you may or may not do it. Either way its still nice,” she smiled giving his hand a squeeze. His face heated at her whispered words and she liked that she could still make him blush. It wasn’t like she hadn’t already seen him naked, so a little skinny dipping shouldn’t be that big of a deal. He didn’t comment on it though so she guessed he was probably still too shy. “Well I got an apartment in Hogsmeade close to the University…you could come live with me if you wanted,“ she murmured, looking up at him as they reached the landing. They had been together quite a long time now, though somehow it felt shorter, but she liked the idea of having a place with him. It would probably smell like tea all the time but that was okay.

Lorcan found himself taken by surprise.  Was...was Artemis really asking him to move in with her?  He hadn’t even thought about what his housing situation would be for University.  “I...”  He began, mulling the idea over in his head.  But the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he’d rather room with Artemis than wind up sharing a small dorm with someone he barely knew.  “Yeah, I’d love to.”

“I don’t see how it’s my fault that you have bad taste in shoes.”

“Well if you do feel like you’re going to throw up, sipping some water might help.  Because even if you think my shoes are ugly, I’d rather you not throw up on them.”

“Depends. Are you wearing ugly shoes?”

"You always think I'm wearing ugly shoes."

“Of course I don’t hate you, I just didn’t recognize you. That’s good, I’ve been doing well, working a lot, but it’s been good. How’ve the last 15 years treated you?”

“I haven’t changed that much, have I?”  He laughed.  “Still filming movies?”  Lorcan asked.  “They’ve been good.  I travled around a bit, then settled down, and now I’ve got two kids.”

“I feel very lightheaded suddenly. I need to just sit down and have a snack.”

Lorcan put Annabelle on the ground, making sure to lean down enough to keep a hold of her hand.  “Ah...there’s a chair right there and--you’re not going to throw up, are you?”

“I think its inevitable really,” she mused, though Lorcan’s more tame nature could be more dominant in one of them. “That sounds about right, but what are siblings for if not to get you into trouble? And then you have some stories for when you’re old.”

“I didn’t think about it like that when I was a kid,”  Lorcan replied, thinking about how he’d always go out of his way to avoid trouble instead of diving right in instead of making stories for the future.  “I’m sure I’ve got a few good stories after living with Lys and my mum and dad.”

“You have no idea. Plus I missed my bed.”

“Oh, I think I do,”  Lorcan nodded.  “I’ve done my fair share of traveling around the world.”

“Can you look after her for a bit? I need to pee.” Maria dropped Annabelle in his arms. She was about to leave until she saw the snack table.

“I...okay,”  Lorcan said, though his niece was handed to him before he had the chance to say anything.  “Uh, Maria?  Restroom?”

“Well you married me dear, you’re bound to get a least one mischievous child,” she teased him. She still hoped that Selene would have a bit in her too. “I can’t imagine you being too much trouble, but I suppose you and Lysander did get up to a little trouble?”

“I can’t say I wouldn’t bee too surprised.”  He smirked, knowing there would be a day where he’d see Selene or Evander getting themselves into some mischievous shenanigan.  “I think it was more like Lysander getting me into trouble, but we did find ourselves in our share of trouble as kids.”

“After that last trip to Africa, I think it’s safe to say that I’m happy to be home.”

“Got too tired of traveling?”

“Yes, and not let him hang around Lysander’s twins, don’t need three little terrors running around. But yes, we’re lucky my parents certainly had an interesting time dealing with the two of us,” she said with a laugh. Selene didn’t seem to have that wild streak in her, at least not yet. She was still hoping her daughter would take after her a little bit too.

“Lysander’s twins are more than enough to handle.”  Lorcan sighed, shaking his head slightly.  He had enough time dealing with those two, he didn’t want his own son to wind up like his mischievous nephews.  “I believe my parents had a bit easier time with Lysander and myself.”

“I think there’s a good chance, after all somehow Apollo and I ended up there.” They certainly weren’t the traditional Ravenclaws, there was a lot of Gryffindor in them as well. “Yes, and myself. We were known as the twin terrors, so you best hope he’s not,” she teased.

“I guess we’ll just have to wait and see where she ends up.”  He said, though he wouldn’t be surprised if she wound up in Ravenclaw.  “Well, I guess we’ll have to start keeping a close eye on him.  Luckily, there’s only one of him and not two.”

“I’m sure she will. I’ll be interested to see what house she’s in,” she mused, the two of them were Ravenclaws but that didn’t mean anything. “Yes, our little handful, if Evander is anything like Apollo and I we’re going to be in for some trouble,” she laughed, preferring to use her son’s full name.

“I wonder if she’ll follow the family tradition and wind up in Ravenclaw.”  Lorcan pondered.  Of course, he’d love to see his daughter wind up a Ravenclaw like himself, though it didn’t matter to much what house she ended up in.  “Does he remind you a lot of Apollo?”
