why does nintendo like to make the most autistic coded characters of all time then treat them like shit by having other characters make weird comments about them (this is mostly in relation to zelda)

this ties into my more controversial opinion of: the zelda community is only accepting of characters being autistic when it conforms to what they think autism should be, which is why link THE character with the most autism headcanons, because in almost every iteration hes not shown with any autistic traits besides being non verbal so theyre able to have their uwu cute little autistic bean without having to actually acknowledge the "unappealing" aspects of autism

like sometimes autistic people are high support needs, sometimes autistic people can be "weird" or "offputting" because we arent good at social interactions and neurodivergent people can just. tell. sometimes we experience intense emotional fluctuations because of black and white thinking. sometimes we experience sensory issues. sometimes we say weird things. we can be rude, we can be mean, we can be scary, we arent your uwu smol bean.
