A Quick Intro to Disney Designer and Director, Mike Gabriel
Mike Gabriel has worked at Disney for over 30 years. He most recently designed Wreck-It Ralph, and his lovely work also graces Frozen, Tangled, Frankenweenie, Brave, Winnie the Pooh, and The Princess and the Frog. And that’s just the John Lasseter era. Before that, Gabriel co-directed Pocahontas and The Rescuers Down Under. And then there’s his GENIUS short, Lorenzo…
Mike Gabriel’s 5-minute Lorenzo is available RIGHT NOW digitally -but will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray next week- in a collection of several Disney one-off shorts. One of the last 2D projects of the late-Eisner era, it blends traditional animation with digitally simulated computer animation on several shots - all composited together to create a painterly style.
Lorenzo was only barley released when it was finished. It was planned to be attached to The Coen Bros’ Ladykillers, only to have it dumped on screenings of Raising Helen instead (Disney still owes me time for the age-10 gamble I lost hoping my showing had Lorenzo attached.)
Before now, this was never released on any video format. Now about Glago’s Guest…

Check out how the black cat makes an extra. Magical.
