Excellent Ice Fishing and Skiing
Getting to the real reason why we are freezing our butts off in the heart of winter and loving every second of it is for the opportunity to do some skiing and ice fishing. When I mentioned several times that the lake area are he and that you need a navigational chart and GPS too, I should have mentioned that the best option is to use guide services instead. After struggling for two days and not even knowing what we were doing or where to go, we were recommended by the locals to use one of the many guide services.
We tried Tim Moore Outdoors as we could see that it would be impossible to get any fish without help. With Tim Moore, we went to Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee for three days in a row. Our target was Lake trout, but were fortunate to get other species too including Yellow Perch, Sunfish, and Smallmouth Bass. Leaving at seven am, we spent a full eight hours having fun ice fishing. Obviously, we made time for skiing too after all is it the official state sport of New Hampshire even though it would have been a first for us.
Since we did not focus on skiing and the aim was for ice fishing we did not want to stay at one of the many ski resorts and instead went for day trips as there are many resorts allowing outside groups for a day of skiing. Attitash Bear Peak has a vertical drop of 1750 feet, which we though would be perfect for us with both skiing and snowboarding options as well with 280 acres of skiable terrain.
After excellent skiing and time to focus again on the amazing thrill of a big catch but I have to say that I am proud even if it is the smallest in the Lake. Our next stop was seacoastguideservice.com since we have learnt that it is not possible to catch and especially getting lost thus for the remainder of the time skiing were far from the mind. The great guide knew exactly where to go and had many tidbits to share on how to catch my favorite which I had on day three, four beautiful black crappies.
