Jinu swallowed the ache, but it refused to stay buried

No thoughts, just Gwi-Ma twisting the words of desperate souls and giving them bad deals (imagine pre-canon or for the girls, Gwi-Ma gets to them before Celine does)

Mira, the black sheep, the problem child, gives her soul to get a family who will accept her. Gwi-Ma turns her into a demon. The demons offer her a family and acceptance, but it comes with the cost of serving Gwi-Ma for eternity.

Zoey, the people pleaser who’s too much and not enough, gives her soul to be exactly what everyone wants her to be. She’s torn from the human realm and made into a demon - because what everyone wants her to be is gone.

Abby, an “ugly” outcast with a soft and unremarkable body, gives his soul for “a body that people will love.” Gwi-Ma gives him his muscled, perfect body, and he’s instantly adored. But only for his body - he’s objectified and sexualized, and no one loves him for anything else.

Baby, proud and obsessed with youth, gives his soul to be eternally young. Gwi-Ma halts his aging, and with it, ensures he’ll never be taken seriously or treated like an adult.

Romance, vain and desperate for adoration, gives his soul to be loved by everyone. He’s accosted by stalkers and parasocial admirers, never giving him a shred of privacy. It’s not until he’s a demon that he knows relative peace, and even then, he has to serve Gwi-Ma.

No matter the intent, no matter the desire, all roads lead back to Gwi-Ma.

Give him your desire.

He’s the only one who will love your sins.

Who's Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

🪕/🍼: Baby and Jinu are neck and neck for "smartest" amongst the group. Being a noble, Baby grew up with the best education money could buy, and he thirsts for knowledge in his everyday life. Because he is old, he has become great at adapting to development and re-learning information that no longer bears fruit.

Jinu, while not formally educated in his human life, was quite street smart. He built a solid foundation of knowledge relating to survival and caring for his family, and in his demon years, he has broadened his horizons. Baby and he have friendly debates and discussions, especially after one of them has finished a new book or picked up some new tidbits.

The one thing Jinu can't beat Baby on is his ability to grasp modern technology. For that, Baby is an iota smarter than him.

🌹/❓: Neither Romance nor Mystery have any formal schooling or education. Their intelligence shines brightest in their crafty nature. Romance is a master at analyzing and manipulating targets. Many during his short time as a demon have fallen for his charm and lost their soul to his deadly kiss. He also learned from his human life, a little too late, how to be tactically wary of people.

Mystery doesn't manipulate unless you count the occasional puppy dog eyes on the boys. His greatest strength is his survival skills. Having fought for his life 24/7 for months leading up to the day he sold his soul, he knows all the essentials to living to see another sunrise. After becoming a demon, however, Baby did assist him in in learning some basics, which enabled Mystery to show off how quick he is to grasp things when given the opportunity.

🌽: Born into a good family, Abby received a standard level of education and got decent grades. He is by no means dumb; his low ranking stems from the fact he is too much of an upfront, genuine person to manipulate, never needed to be streetwise, and can be a bit headstrong and dense when it comes to problem-solving. Abby is the "charge forward and hope for the best"-type as opposed to a planner. He has always relied on his strength, so convincing him to slow down and use his brain is a battle.

The rooftop had quietly become their place. Whenever the noise of Seoul grew too loud or another job left them exhausted, the five of them always found themselves sitting along the edge of the old building, watching the endless sea of neon lights stretch across the skyline. Baby absentmindedly kicked his feet over the ledge while Romance kept everyone laughing with another ridiculous story, earning an exaggerated groan from Abby that only made him continue. Jinu listened with a faint smile, occasionally adding a dry comment that somehow made the whole group laugh even harder. Mystery stayed mostly silent, content to simply be there, listening to the others while the cool night breeze tugged at his lavender hair.

For a little while, the noise of Seoul faded into the background. Huddled around a small table in their favorite late night spot, the five of them traded bites of food, quiet jokes, and tired smiles after another long day. No missions, no gang politics, no expectations just warm bowls, stolen glances, and the comfort of knowing they had each other. In a city that never truly slept, moments like these were rare, and maybe that’s why they meant the most.
