Five top tips for beginner witches? <3
Tend to learn what you want to learn. Don't buy into "but you HAVE to do x,y,z to be successful/a real witch." What about the craft fascinates you and pulls you in? Focus on that. No, you don't have to spend a year obsessively learning protection before you can move on. Witchcraft isn't dangerous* or evil.
Tend to ask why. If you read a spell or recipe, ask yourself why every ingredient is there. Why these ingredients? Why that many? Why does the spell recommend certain timings, or why doesn't it?
Tend to not work magic if you don't understand the composite parts and materials, and why each thing is included.
Tend to read actual books about witchcraft, not just blogs or online articles. Read books about the kinds of things you want to do. If something captures your attention and it feels outside of your skill set, go back and learn what skills you need to work up to that point.
*If witchcraft is a car than you're more than capable of driving it off a cliff. Be smart, think things through, and tend to know where you're going before you hit the gas pedal.
A bonus sixth tip for you: there are very few things which I believe on some level are not beginner-friendly. I do not believe this is true of two important things. So instead of tending, this one can be black and white (if a little over-simplified): do not make oaths and do not initiate.
I can't speak universally for every path, but as far as contemporary witchcraft goes initiation should be an advanced step, after you are already familiar with a path and practice and you're ready to be married to it.
You do not need to promise to serve pagan gods before you're allowed to talk to them (this is NOT Christianity, the first step is not promising your soul to the god), you don't need to initiate into witchcraft before you can practice it, and doing either can weaken the guard rails that stop you from zooming your car straight over the cliff and in to the deep end of the ocean of mystery.

Can we stop only associating Aphrodite Pandemos (and Aphrodite in general) w sexual debauchery/orgies/~sensual pleasures/etc and start re-associating her with love for our communities, love for our people, our societies.
We would not have evolved to form societies if we did not love each other and if we didn’t care about everyone’s well being. We as a species have love for one another in our DNA. It’s how we survived. The first sign of civilization is a healed femur, according to Margaret Mead. This is a very noble and important form of love that is often looked down upon in Western society, if not outright punished.
Many non Western cultures have their own long-standing cultural traditions that value community and love for the community. Investment and care for our elders and our children, for strangers and for our siblings.
Love for the environment and love for plants and animals, land stewardship, harvesting and hunting food with respect and care for other species and the health of the ecosystems.
Capitalism, white supremacy, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, colonialism, imperialism, anti-semitism, etc are antithetical to Aphrodite Pandemos and what she stands for.
In my opinion, the centering of only romantic/sexual love in your worship of Aphrodite is ultimately a result of the long-standing project to turn the concept of love into something easily marketable and exploitable, and ultimately isolating. Think the creation of the nuclear family unit.
When you cut a person off from their people, their culture, their communities, and you tell them to only fill their fundamental need for love in romantic and sexual partners, they become easier to absorb into an oppressive, capitalist, individualistic society. That’s why the West centers romantic and sexual love so much, and that’s why you should critically examine if you are engaging in it beyond reason.
Some places where Aphrodite Pandemos is present: civic duty (voting, juries, participating in city/state/federal governance in general, educating yourself on what’s going on in your country, your town), activism/any activist actions (protests, petitions, mutual aid, unionizing, jail support, boycotts, education, raising awareness), the concept of public schools/hospitals/universities/social safety nets, the belief in universal, unalienable human rights, the belief that people should be housed and fed and cared for regardless of whether or not they can work

Whoops! You mistook magic for objective truth and, wuh-oh! Looks like you did a quirky little phrenology! Hi, I'm from the Wizard Council, please bite the curb.
Real talk, just because your spirituality isn't part of some big organized religion doesn't mean you get to be any less critical about it. Your engagement with an idea always has the capacity to hurt people.
"Is this about-" yes this is about astrology. And crystals. And tarot. Anything vaguely spiritual, religious, or superstitious. Nothing gets a pass. Grapple always with your understanding of the world.
just a reminder that Aphrodite is more than just the "good" side of love. Aphrodite made a promise to Paris that destroyed a marriage and started a continental war.
Aphrodite is not just a "good goddess" who helps with self love and romance and finding your happily ever after. She is the fire that stirs our hearts to kill others in defense of our homes. She is the lust and aching that causes people to stalk those who do not have feelings for them. She is the heartbreak and complete devastation when lovers are torn apart and never reunited again.
Aphrodite is not just your goddess of love and light and pink things and happily ever afters. She is the bringer of victory - Nikêphoros. She is the Warlike - Areia. She is the averter of unlawful desires and actions - Apostrophia. She is one who blessed marriage and unions - Migôntis. She is the one who turns to love - Epistrophia.

HELLENIC TERFS MAKE NO DAMM SENSE HERE'S WHY
My references: I live on terf island. Currently transitioning.
Throughout my time spent in Hellenic spaces I was not able to avoid transphobia. There are an uncomfortable number of transphobic practitioners who claim authority as high priestesses and powerful sorcerers who line their TikToks and Tumblr posts with the cultural appropriation and gender essentialist rhetoric. In Hellenic spaces many of them also claim to worship goddesses like Artemis and Aphrodite. Like all of TERFism it doesn’t make sense.
Artemis I can somewhat understand. If a TERF wanted a “women only” space, Artemis would be an appropriate option. Artemis was a goddess of chastity and was very protective of it much like how many of us were taught to protect our virginity as children and teens, she was also very supportive to women, particularly to midwives and those who were pregnant but even in her mythology Artemis also had men as followers including Daphnis and Scamandrius. The hero Siporites of Crete was even turned into a woman by Artemis which can be interpreted idyllically as the hero transitioning with the help of Artemis. If Artemis in her mythology wasn’t exclusive to women then it shouldn’t be now.
Aphrodite is a bit of a different case. Aphrodite is worshipped more as an archetype of beauty or “divine femininity”. TERFS believe Aphrodite to be the “perfect woman” “so how can anyone understand but women?” This ignores the fact that Aphrodite herself had a male presenting form Aphroditus. In whatever form Aphrodite takes, she is a deity of beauty and love. Ancient Greece had many different words for love: Agape (love for all), Eros (romantic/sexual), Philia (deep friendship), Ludus (playful love), Pragma (longstanding love/devotion), Philautia (self love), Storge (familial love), and Mania (obsession). Aphrodite today represents an all-encompassing love including all of these possibilities. It's just common sense to know that love in it’s many forms is not exclusive to cisgender women so neither is Aphrodite. Using her likeness to promote premeditated hate goes against who Aphrodite is at her core.
Many pagan TERFs have their own version of a persecution complex. They recognise how they themselves are a part of a marginalised community both religious and gender based and that history and personal experience fuels their overly defensive behaviour. When other marginalised communities mix with theirs it feels like an attack on their safe spaces. They use their personal experiences and community history to justify their bigoted attacks on other marginalised people. All the while pushing up a facade of spiritual authority so their ideals can’t be questioned.
It makes zero sense and I mean who is surprised?
Grow up and do better. You're NLOG phase was over a decade ago.
I think people demonize anger a lot within the pagan and polytheist communities. I've noticed so many people be terrified that they've angered or upset their gods, and while there is obviously an underlying reason for that fear (usually trauma or anxiety), it definitely isn't a necessary fear to have.
Gods get angry. They can feel rage that burns so hot it scorches the lands below them. They don't approve of everything we do because, you know what, sometimes our actions, as humans, are just unacceptable. Sometimes we fuck up and have to be reminded the our actions impact other people's emotional states, and that includes the gods.
But just because gods get angry, upset, or disappointed with us doesn't mean they're going to leave us or they'll hate us or this or that. It doesn't mean they don't recognize that we are flawed and make mistakes. It doesn't mean they won't forgive us of our actions.
Of course, I believe that gods are capable of hating people. I believe there are some humans that are so despicable, so vile, that the gods themselves shun and scorn their very existence, but I'd like to think (and this is just my opinion) that isn't very common and that the gods are more forgiving and understanding than people give them credit for. I think there is a lot of fear-mongering that the gods will punish or hurt us because we've made a mistake or something along those lines, but in reality, they are much more lenient and forgiving, although they'll still get angry, upset, or disappointed.
It's ok for a god to be upset with you. They're not going to boil your toes or turn your fingers into snakes or something. Like, it's ok to be a flawed human; that's what human existence is. The gods know that, but we can still piss them off sometimes. We can still disappoint or upset them. And it's ok for us to still be loved by them afterwards. Both truths can exist at once; they can be angry as all hell at you and still love you. They can be disappointed in something you've done and still want the best for you. They can be upset at your actions and still care deeply for you.
It's up to you how you react to their anger, their upset, and their disappointment. Either way, you'll come out of the situation ok. Conflicts are normal in every relationship, including deity relationships.
