best believe he was completely shocked when his wife told him she was pregnant. he was about to pick her up and spin her around and then he was like: wait she's carrying a baby I can't do that
went through waves of confidence and anxiety. will I even be a good father? and then...oh this is gonna be awesome! I'm gonna raise the best kid in Mondstat. he told everyone. Crepus, the Knights, the Adventures Guild, yapped about it at Angles Share,
hovers around his pregnant wife. fusses like a female dog following her owner. water? back rubs? foot massage? food? you want it? I'll get it.
as the due date approached this guy started nesting. a big sunny room became the nursery. he built the crib, the shelves, put everything together, painted the walls at his wife's instruction, put together the wolf mobile over the crib. and then he started messing around with the house. oh but the couch could be here instead and maybe we could extend the kitchen.
he packed and repacked the baby bag like 30 times (a very useful way to avoid paperwork. 'my pregnant wife needs me at every given moment' sure buddy, she totally didn't send you off because you tried to redo the kitchen)
when that baby girl is born....oh lord
Varka's world just tilts on it's axis and started revolving around the tiny pink bundle placed in his massive arms, his giant frame dwarfing the itty bitty baby. he legit cries a little and whispers promises of protection as he traced her tiny face with his finger

attached to his baby. stood over his wife while she nursed, woke up like the world was ending at a cry in the night, always told his wife to stay in bed, she carried the baby for nine months he can get up in the middle of the night no problem. kept a notebook of which side his wife nursed on if she was too tired to remember. swaddling and diper changing was an art he mastered with proficiency - this was a dedicated father. drank a little less. just a bit.
brought her everywhere as she grew. Knights Headquarters, Dawn Winery, Adventures Guild, Good Hunter, With Wind Comes Glory, Angles Share, even took her to see Andrius. He held his baby in front of the ancient wolf like: 'look what I made'. she just cooed and kicked her baby legs.
loves carrying her. does not want to put her down. carriers her skin to skin contact almost always - Lisa had given him a baby book on how it was good for infants and now thatโs all he does
once she was weened off of breast milk and could be bottle fed, Varka took it in stride. this was daddy's chance to bond with the baby and this is when she became a total daddy's girl. her ginormous blue eyes followed him in a room, his deep voice could settle her when she got fussy, and it helped that he talked to her a lot. "And then we put this bowl here...and the spoon in here...It's very important these go in the correct locations or your mommy will kill me."
by the time she was 5, it was clear his wife's genes didn't put up a fight. She was a 1:1 copy of Varka. Like a tiny girl version of him. Albeit not an alcoholic (but an apple juiceaholic as Varka liked to say). He put a sword in that girls hand right away. It weighed nothing but he put it in her hand and made her swing it. Just a few times every day.
Put her in the best school so she could be a front runner to be a knight and the second she was of eligible age to enter the training academy for the Knights of Favonious, Varka woke her up at the ass crack of dawn and dropped her off 3 hours early
she sat there with some toast and sunsettia juice until the doors opened, went to training daily - her father picking her up every day and asking a billion questions
he did this every day until she graduated as a knight from the top of her class. and he was the proudest father ever. the loudest at the graduation
now that she was in the ranks, he kept a close eye on her of course. which meant making her spar against him, finding her at least once an hour because 'checking on his daughter' was a fine excuse to avoid paperwork
and when he left on his expedition, he stuck his daughter as Jean's right hand woman.
he sent her many letters while he was away and small souvenirs from Nod Krai that she collected in her room and on her shelves.
when the Traveler arrived, she volunteered to go with them. accompanying the outlander on their travels to find their sibling.
and that journey led her to Nod Krai where she reunited with her father. Who was elated to see her again. He took her to dinner (the pub) and kept her up all night exchanging stories of their travels across Teyvat.
but aside from his drinking, his loudmouth, and his other craziness, he was a wonderful father.
he was the kind of father to show up no matter what, hold you in his arms after a bad day and be that pillar that you needed in every tough situation.
he cant cook well in the house but he could cook well over the fire when he took you camping. seared meat over a wood fire as he showed you how you roast. nights ending over stories of Boreas
he kept you strong in the hard times as your rock. he taught you how to hold a sword and how to hold your head up high with honor
he became your standard of how a man should be. growing up and seeing how he treated your mother as if she was the only woman on the planet. with chivalry and love that couldn't be rivaled no matter what stood in the couples way. you looked at him and saw your standard. even your mother said to find a man like Varka, who held his woman to the highest esteem.
from standing in front of him with a wooden sword to beside him with a claymore, he never left you, never abandoned you, never did anything to make you feel like you had no one.
