On the release day, the 19th of August, Lisa played in Tower Records in Dublin, and HMV Belfast. On Thursday the 25th she’ll play in Fopp Covent Garden, London at 5.30pm.

Video premiere of Fall, the new lead song from Lisa’s upcoming album.

The video premiered on The Wall Street Journal blog:

For Lisa Hannigan’s new video for her song “Fall,” the Irish singer-songwriter had a very specific vision in mind. “I knew I wanted to do was some kind of dance,” she says. “I’m under absolutely no allusion to my gift as a dancer. But it felt like it was the right thing for this song.” The video premieres above on Speakeasy today.

The video was shot in one afternoon outside London in the Alice Holt Forest – along with some rather rigid dance moves, viewers are greeted with stark imagery of just Hannigan in a crimson-red dress, surrounded by towering trees.

“There’s a sense of struggle in the song,” she says. “I didn’t want it to be too literal. “It was very peaceful, but a strange, eerie place.”

“Fall” is a song Hannigan co-wrote with songwriter Joe Henry. It’s the lead song on her upcoming third studio album, “At Swim,”which finds her exploring new sonic territory with the help of producer Aaron Dessner ofthe National.

“That was a turning point in terms of the flow of the record,” she says about connecting with Dessner on the 11 songs that make up “At Swim.”

“At Swim” arrives Aug. 19 on ATO Records.

Lisa Hannigan's new album, At Swim, comes out August 19.

Lisa Hannigan has succeeded mightily as a collaborator: The Irish singer-songwriter first broke through singing alongside Damien Rice on his first two albums, then later performed on Steven Price's Oscar-winning score for the movie Gravity. But Hannigan's solo records — 2008's Sea Sew and 2011's Passenger — are uniformly lovely, as well, proving that she's always deserved a spotlight of her own.

On August 19, Hannigan will release her third album, At Swim. In a sense, it finds the singer inhabiting the best of both worlds: At Swim is unmistakably a solo project, but it also allows her to bounce ideas off a new producer, The National's Aaron Dessner. Together, they craft a moodily gorgeous collection of songs about longing and alienation — appropriate for a singer who'd been struggling to adjust to life after relocating to London.

This first taste of At Swim, "Prayer For The Dying," showcases Hannigan's considerable gift for slow-burning melancholy. Setting her lustrous voice against a backdrop of piano, slide guitar and swooning backing vocals, the song sways sweetly for four and a half languid, hypnotic minutes.
