I ENJOY THE IDEA OF AN INITIALLY VERY UNEQUAL BUMBLEBY DYNAMIC!!! IT MAKES SENSE!!! Blake was DEPRESSED!!! She needed a lot more help and wasn’t really capable of seriously helping anyone else at that time!!! That’s sometimes how recovery works!!!

It’s not like she didn’t do ANYTHING for yang it’s just that it was more smaller things over a longer time and yang did more serious constant intentional actions to try and help Blake out even if it was just to help her feel comfortable and more at ease in the world

( for 2 examples I think that blake initially really helped her with her relationship with Ruby and dealing with their constant problems of how yang is both caretaker and sister and now TEAMMATE AND LEADER??? Like Blake was actually really good about all that which is really important to yang and she also I think accidentally helped yang with the uselessness she prob felt growing up surrounded by mentally ill people)

And it makes the v6 relationship EVEN BETTER because Blake improves herself and then swaps the roles!!! Or tries to at least!!! She wants to pay yang back!!! She genuinely wants to help yang!! She wants to be her knight in shining armor!!! Not that yang is chill with that level of vulnerability or dependency and not that Blake is actually used to someone with yangs flavor of issue but she’s TRYING!!! And she’s THERE!!! And that’s more then anyone tried to do for yang and it’s HUGE

It’s another reason I really enjoy the idea of their v6 dynamic lasting longer I like the idea they spend an equal amount of time putting more effort into the relationship before they reach their shockingly really genuine and healthy relationship

I really love the realism to it and the care it gives to mental illness like “yeah you will need more help then you can give back and that’s OK!!! You are actually sometimes a burden that’s OK your ALLOWED to be!!!! SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO BE!!! And people will still love you but you also have to try and be kind to them about the fact they love you, don’t go make choices for them because of your attempts at self destruction it is still your responsibility to choose to accept help and try and get better” I LOVE THAT!!! LET THEM HAVE THATTTTT PLEASEEEEE

They all feel like they shouldn’t be there they all feel unloved

Qrow and yang both feel like awful reminders of bad things and unqualified caretakers who shouldn’t have been left in charge and I love them for that

And yang believing that Qrows self hatred must also lead to a hatred of her because of the difference between how he treats Ruby vs her when it’s really that his feelings for yang are tied up in different kinds of feelings of guilt and shame AND there’s probably a piece of him that does think she’s doomed by being related to him and Raven

Ya think that Yang angsted over the idea that if Blake didn't run into RWY at Haven on accident that she wouldn't have come back at all?

(Never mind the fact that Blake would have run herself ragged, scouring the world to find Yang the minute she thought the New White Fang could run without her.)

I think at the TIME like specifically the moment at haven where they reunited and all that matters decided to play in the background I think Yang agonised over the fact that despite how unlikely, she still met back up with Blake, and she now still will go through being left by her again

Like she JUST had the worlds most emotionally damaging confrontation with her dead beat mom and NOW she IMMEDIATELY has to deal with the situationship from hell that literally took her arm from her and she has to deal with it in front of her little sister and uncle and Weiss schnees stab wound and random 14 yr old for no reason other then TERRIBLE TIMING

I think Blake for sure took it at some crazy sign from God of some kind that her team somehow found her and that she was somehow taken back in by Yang

But after everything I think they both think fondly about the fact that it ended up just being such an amazing coincidence

But yeah I do think that Yang probably thinks that if that hadn’t happened Blake would’ve never even tried to come back, that it’s just a coincidence that ended up working out for them both, I think that in volume 6 she believed a big reason for her acting as she did and being their at all was a out of some kind of guilt and I think Yang HATEDDD that

I think a huge part of her thought Blake was probably better off just staying with her parents

Blake clearly didn’t care enough to stay for them why would she go on this crazy ass mission with them? Do they really need just one more person? Blake looked so much healthier with them, a real support system, Yang tried so hard and did so much work to try and help Blake but it looks like she actually genuinely found people who could actually help her, why drag out something so painful if she’s just gonna leave again? Why do that to her team? why do that to Blake?

I like to think that if Yang thought she could (without being accused of trying to force Blake out by Weiss and Ruby, or sounding overly cruel, or being stopped by her hearts heavy and desperate desire to have her back) she would’ve tried to suggest to Blake for her to stay with what she was doing

Even after everything she cares about her enough to think she should just do whatever is healthiest for her

And Yang views her team as family, she’d do anything for them and it’s the point of her existence, she’d do anything for them and she’d be insulted at the idea she do anything else

But if she’s under the impression Blake doesn’t love them to that kind of level, then she’d probably want her to stay with the people she does care about to that extent, because that’s the way Yang believes life should be lived

The idea of what Blake would’ve done if they weren’t just conveniently there at the perfect time is really fun cause like??? What would she have done?? Genuinely?? WOULD she come back?? At least like IMMEDIATELY after beating Adam??? Would she help with the white fang stuff first?? How would she find them??? Would she go back to vale?? What would the plan be??

I think any way it’d be a fun topic of conversation regardless

Fun bumbleby dynamic idea!!! Let’s bring in the idea of yang believing she can help Blake but not believing she can fix her but in fun cool ways!!!

Yang growing up watching as her family can “improve” but never truly meaningfully change for the better her fathers still distant and her uncles still an alcoholic and there’s nothing she can do about it and let’s bring it into her relationships in fun and cool ways!!!

Yang helping people out but not actually forcing them to change or really believing Blake will fully just hoping she can do something to at least make her happier but Blake actually deeply wanting to get better just thinking she can’t and doesn’t deserve to and them both because of this misinterpreting each other with Blake thinking that yang wants her to be something she’s incapable of but yang actually loving her as she is even knowing it’s bad for her and yang assuming that Blake doesn’t really care at all for the efforts she makes because it never actually helped anyone all that much before but it actually doing a LOT for Blake and Blake actually really loving and appreciating her just believing she’s a waste of yangs hard work

Ngl, even though RWBY wasn't perfect in any means, it still has that ability to pull me back. Or maybe it's just because I am a Yang fan. Anyways, it's been months (university kicked my ass) since I've been active so my first comeback reblog goes to you (you deserve it). Here it goes.

What do you think of post-V3 Yang (but pre-V4) going to Atlas and serving under General Ironwood? Let's say that after Ruby left, Ironwood who Tai asked for a prosthetic arm, offers them both a chance to go live in Atlas to receive the best medical care possible. Then let's say that Tai refuses him because he needs to do work in Signal but Yang accepts (ensues Tai pikachu face) because hey, here's an opportunity to be useful again.

What do I think of it? Hmmm

- yang leaving the house and breaking out of her depression coma wasn’t just about being useful it was specifically about Ruby and taking care of her I really doubt she could bring herself to go do anything much pre finding out where her missing sister was and what she was doing and if she was dead

2:

- i think yangs a bit anti military, she clearly has a problem with the “just following orders” “we’re all only coworkers” “surveillance military state” vibes of atlas and when she does work for iron wood she very quickly commits a felony even before they all rebel + her kicking that robot + her reaction to the ace oops mentality + her reaction to atlas betraying mantle

HOWEVER yang i think does care a lot about James ironwood because he’s clearly a friend of her family i think she deeply sympathizes with him as a person but she’d have a very hard time with behaving as a soldier

I think a good way to get around this would be to have it where yang and ruby or just yang starts out in atlas like she wakes up there

If it’s just her then she’d be repeatedly assured her sister is safe and alive and still in a coma at home and her going there wouldn’t help which combined with her depression would help her not immediately go to her sister especially if she’s assured they’ll tell her when she wakes up despite the crazy communication barrier which would keep her from finding out for awhile

Maybe she wakes up with the prosthetic in without her consent and she’s kind of led into doing combat stuff with it despite clearly not being recovered to that point

Probably doing it with the same apathy that she did the chores in her house during v4

The state of dissociation she’s in would put her in a much better position to be chill not bonding with anyone and vaguely doing orders and really not talking to anyone much

Clearly in her more depressed state the thing she did the most was clearly defined repetitive tasks (like cleaning and chores and whatever her dad just wasn’t doing I guess) so following orders in that state make a lot of sense and she’d probably still be pretty great at it

You could do a fun thing where winter purposefully doesn’t inform Weiss about her friend being there for at least a while to keep her sister from seeing her friend in such a bad state

Who knows and u don’t have to go in the direction I went I just think the two problems should be addressed then ur golden

I’d say You should probably still have the reason for her breaking out of her depression be Ruby related maybe she could hide that search within searching for Weiss after Weiss runs away or you could have them Meet up at some point and go look for her together leading to the funniest thing of Raven trying to kidnap Weiss and then having to deal with yang being there it’d be even cooler if you establish that ironwood and co are trying to deal with the world ending shit that is Salem and stuff and yang still choosing to leave to go find Ruby to parallel how Raven told her all the world ending stuff and she was still like “and?? Take me to Ruby” could be awesome

Also when they all go back to atlas the people in atlas already knowing yang but knowing her very differently would be really cool and fun

Ace pops knowing her but as a TOTALLY different very much sadder person and now she’s happy and with her team and super different

Rating how funny it is for a criminal to recognise the members of team RWBY

Ruby- not funny at all, it would be for the lore reasons of wanting to cut out her eyes and all, which is fun and cool but not funny even cooler and radder if recognized through specifically summer rose

Weiss Schnee- a lil bit funny but also just normal, she’s canonically famous, funny on just the fact of how it’s inevitable and should happen every time or on the lengths they should go to avoid it (let’s see some dumb disguises!!!)

Blake- a lil funny but mostly just a fun and cool acknowledgment of the fact she’s both famous and infamous, belladonna and white fang, been doing that shit for years, depending on weather they know her as belladonnas recently returned missing daughter or as the retired crash out of that abused and angry teenage girl she was it’s still fun

Yang- FUNNY AS SHIT canonically CONSTANTLY has beef with real established criminals and bandits and random organized crime groups and none of her team reallyyy know all about that so it’s be the funniest for her to be the FIRST to be recognized like jr shows up in vacuo and it’s that girl who blew up his house for literally no reason and she’s with the “world is ending” girl, Schnee heiress and missing belladonna + if it’s through her mom/ uncle that’s wild and fun she literally don’t even fuck with them like that

ON THE TOPIC OF CHARACTERS BEING INTERPRETED ODDLY CONSIDERING THE FIRST THING U LEARN ABOUT THEM

SUMMER ROSE

The first and main thing we learn about her is from red like roses part two and in that we learn she’s a very complicated individual most notably she regrets dying on her husband and two very very young daughters but not leaving for the mission and overall would do it again despite saying REPEATEDLY it left them specifically Ruby in a TERRIBLE POSITION and also repeatedly states that her death was IN VAIN!!!

She IS sad that her family is sad but stands by her prioritizing the world over them TO THE POINT that she even stands by it even though she says she died for nothing

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an interpretation of her that takes this into account to the point I think it should or really at all I’ve seen a lot in early era Ruby that just copy pasted Ruby’s personality onto her and I’ve seen some more recently that takes her most recent appearance into account especially rosebird stuff but I want to SPECIFICALLY see this mentality in effect cause I think it’s super cool and interesting and could make for super cool content especially considering how it compares to ruby and yangs mentalities

And it seems really central to her character in Gen

TALKING ABOUT RWBY CHARACTER TRAILERS AND WHAT (I THINK!!!!) IT TELLS U ABOUT THEM VS HOW PEOPLE INTERPRET THE CHARACTERS

starting off

The dumb blonde trope for yang is REALLLYYY funny especially because I don’t think it’s all that true at ALLL

Not just for the normal reasons of “she’s way more complex” or “she’s obviously actually really smart and competent”

I mean that in the yellow trailer the stereotype she would fall into is clearly MEAN Blonde

And that’s not like an antithesis to to dumb blond there’s often a lot of overlap but it does require cleverness at least socially which is what is shown in the trailer

And I think that’s because most of the characters are shown to be kind of opposite to what your originally shown of them

Ruby is shown as this cool bad ass alt silent type and then in the show she’s bubbly and loud and rambles but is socially awkward

Weiss is sorrowful and somber and trapped but fights for a freedom from a awful seeming family and then in the show we see her proudly standing by and defending her family and being loud and obnoxious and arrogant and rude

Blake were shown being in this abusive relationship with a serial killer where she’s uncertain and under threat and runs away but in the first episode she’s imposing and calm and collected and distant but not uncertain perfectly fine standing her ground (an eh analysis of her section in this but I’m rushing I have to do stuff sorry Blake ❤️)

This is because the trailers show an internal look into something deeper about the characters that ur not gonna see much of because of the situations there in throughout the actual show

Blake and Weiss are shown in situations they’ve left and don’t plan on going back to and wouldn’t really talk about but inform how differently they act in the show

However I think it’s super fun that Weiss and Blake shows them in the situation of being around the people they’ve grown up with and Ruby and yang shows what they’re like when they’re not with the people they’ve grown up with

Because Blake and Weiss left their homes yang and ruby are still living with their sister when the show starts which DEFINITELY changes how they act

Yang is obviously a very kind person of course it shows us this time and time again HOWEVER she’s also a bit mean!!! It’s through being blunt!!! And not fake!!! She’s just really real!! She calls Blake a lost cause IN FROMT OF HER, shes repeatedly judgmental of jaune, she flat out ignores Neptune as a concept, Blake with no comments CORRECTS yang when she’s talking to penny

She’s blunt as SHIT ruby is also like this as her younger sister however she’s just clearly less skilled socially

I’m not saying she’s a bully or anything crazy like that I’m saying she’s honest and blunt and clever and that she’s CANONICALLY a tall hot popular blonde lesbian nepo baby with a bad relationship with her mom she’s gonna be a littleeeee mean often very reasonably like she didn’t even know Neptune! that’s Blake’s friends friend and now he’s YANGS problem? Jaune did cheat his way into the school, Blake was very dismissive of her and her lil sister

Ruby is her little sister who she ADORES of course she’s gonna act different around her!!! And she does!!! Every time they’re separated!!!! Even the trailer says this exactly!!!! Her attitude changes the second Ruby’s involved!!! Her whole thing in the trailer is she’s looking for her mom!!! She’s a family oriented person!!! She also had a GREAT time beating the shit out of those people in the club and the song in the background was like “man I sure love my friends/ family sense I’m playing their songs in my theme also I’m gonna beat the shit out of you guys cause Im better then you are”

I also think Ruby should and does act differently when yang isn’t around that’s her older sister she’s GONNA act different around her guys

But it’s kind of interesting that yang and ruby’s first introductions I feel are ignored the most when it comes to what their actually telling you about them and I think it’s cause it’s just a little bit more abstract and a little less striking then the !!THESE GUYS WERE ABUSED!!! LIKE RIGHT BEFORE THE STORY!!!! From Blake and Weiss which is honestly fair

I am GLAD that it’s not the main takeaway from yang is the mean blonde trope because people would demonize the SHIT out of her if she was I like how even if she’s portrayed as dumb in things she’s nice and supportive and big sisterish which IS the persona she portrays because she’s on a team with her little sister but I think that people regardless of they think she’s meaner or not should show being different in SOME way when she’s distinctively away from her family members as all people are same with Ruby

I also know that people are gonna interpret this as me saying yangs a bad person that’s not what I’m saying but WHATEVER

Also I think it’s cool that in Ruby and yangs trailer their both looking for their moms

So, low key I've thought for a long time that Qrow (Maybe) and Tai (100% certain on) projected Raven onto Yang and sort of made her a bit of a black sheep within her own home, what's your take?

Well sense you asked for myyyyy take 💖 yes of course 💖 at least a bit (Ruby compared to someone dead and yang compared to someone gone is a lil sibling thing they get to share❤️❤️) BUTTT i ALSO believe EVERYONE in that damn family felt like the black sheep of the family

(You know me I’m always gonna bring everyone into it I LOVEEE interconnected traumas)

Yang is for so many reasons, she’s not treated perfectly like a kid or like an adult, she looks and/or acts like all of team strq but isn’t an enough of a match to any of them, she has to find out she’s not totally related to the sister she’s raising and not at all to the mom she’s mourning, she feels abandoned and unwanted by every adult in the world and only knows she’s loved by Ruby who literally needs her because no one else is doing anything, she’s both the most and least capable, and she has deep rooted problems caused by the absence of people she has to search for in vain

Straight up not having a fun go of it

Ruby is the youngest of a family brought to ruin, she’s the most useless and most out of the loop, she can only be a burden and isn’t given the proper guidance to ever hope to become a functional person, she feels like she missed out on the small era of time where her family was good

She looks exactly like her dead mother she’ll never seen and nothing like the sister she looks up to and has around and wants to be like but can’t be, she’s not even related to the uncle she try’s to emulate who looks a little bit more like her but is purposefully not around much, and she shares nothing with her father other then a fake upbeat attitude and a genetic certainty for mental illness she LOOKS like a black sheep in the family

She doesn’t even get to properly share her dead mom trauma with her sister who’s the only person who could understand her because APPARENTLY yang has some mysterious bio mom EVERYONE ELSE has SOME connection to BUT RUBY!! And she can’t properly share being siblings with yang at all because yangs forced into a caretaker role which forces Ruby into being a burden to her sister which is an awful feeling

Tai was an og odd one out on his team with twins who knew each other for years and then the team leader and then now his family fully had to grow and adjust without him and his children grew up without him and he doesn’t know them like he wants two both of his lovers have left him and he now doesn’t fit into the dynamic between his children or with his old teammate/ ex brother in law/ whatever he even is to qrow anymore

Qrow and Raven are DEF the most DRAMATIC about it

Qrow is SOOOOO obvious and obnoxious about it he’s like ooOooOooo I HAVE to leave I’m a danger to everyone 🥺 I’m still gonna help from a distance and I crave love and connection tho 👀

And like… he IS a danger but still

And also, once his team turned from team to family he definitely became the odd one out for ONE their ALL DATING!!! Then they have kids together so that’s cool! He’s only part of this family through his sister then she leaves! Then it’s through his sisters kid which be feels weird about for sure especially because then summer and tai have a kid without his sister so they’re? Trying to move on? They seem to do their best to treat yang like she’s not his sisters kid so should he also be out? That’s all that kept him related to them sooo? So his main connection seems to be ozpin who is basically a weird fuck ass member of their family but then summer dies and tai shuts down and his family basically becomes this five year old and a toddler and he CAN NOT be a care taker he is to dangerous and to bad at any of that and is the only one who ISNT A PARENT but he try’s? To support them? And it’s bad and he’s bad at it but he trains summers kid to be like him and he try’s to help his sisters kid raise her and he starts to think of them as separate people but he’s also not their parent and he will not improve his problems for them and it’s baddd and he leaves all the time when he can to be further not a part of it and less of a bad influence but it doesn’t work

And Ravens like “I’m not a part of this family!!! Also I hope you’re all not mad at me and miss me a lot and I visibly still love you all whatever” she LITERALLY left but she was connected to the whole family still UNTIL they seemed to totally move on from her with their knew kid who she’s never even met and her and her brother don’t interact and her daughter doesn’t know about her and she knows they probably avoid her name in the house she used to share with them and she try’s to pretend she’s still part of it when she meets Any of them but they know and she knows that’s not how it works they all hate her

Oh and summer to def

Summer (we don’t know to much about) but def felt like a very specific kind of black sheep because being a TEAM LEADER in a family dynamic has definitely gotta bring an odd power dynamics into the home and definitely separates herself from everyone else AND she definitely blames herself for the household falling apart

So yeah everyone in that stupid family is some dramatic depressed loser and it’s everyone’s and no ones fault

God, I love your freezerburn takes. They always make me conflicted.

On one hand, platonic freezerburn is so much fun because I don't think that enough people care to flesh out friendships between characters without it eventually ending is romance, them falling ass backwards into having a big sister-little sister dynamic on shear force of habit is great, and the angst of Weiss feeling like she's just not as important to Yang as Blake and Ruby because there just friends.

On the other, romantic freezerburn, cause I'm a sucker for best friends to lovers, the way that it would parrel Tai getting with Summer after Raven left, and the angst when Blake gets back and finds out would hit on so many levels,

-The feelings betrayal if Blake thinks/knows that Weiss knew she liked Yang.

-Being a faunus and having a Schnee be chosen over you, even if it's one your friends with, has got to sting.

I think there would be some differences if anyone wanted to write my roadtrip au romantically like additional differences in the way Blake is talked about and talked around till inevitably they can broach the topic genuinely

But I think otherwise it doesn’t have to be changed tooo much I really enjoy when that kinda thing is a very slow development of two friends getting closer and closer

I believe it would also be super SUPER slow burn I think similarly to bumblby that it wouldn’t happen for a long time after it probably should be which is almost more fun cause regardless I really like the part of this AU where Blake has to come back and see these two be sooo much closer then they were when she left and all the feelings that could come from that

The relationship yang has with Blake CANNOT!!! Be avoided!!! Those guys are soulmates don’t matter if they’re endgame in a thing or not!!!

U could definitely decide between if you want Blake to be jealous in a platonic way or not because regardless her v6 arc is VERY yang centric and trying to get their relationship back because regardless of what kind of relationship that’s her most important person and she wants her back after everything that happened

I think yangs relationship with Weiss will make Blake feel like yang might’ve been better off without her but also kinda angry and jealous about it in a way she has no direction for because she really cares about Weiss and knows she can’t be mad that someone was there for yang after she left (a very Ruby like anger with no where to go kinda thing)

I think that the closer yang would get to Weiss the more she’d feel uncertain in their relationship in the idea of Weiss ditching them forever possibly just cause… you know… yeah (I also think this is true romantic or platonic it’s just there’s a different kind of fear of commitment with romantic where she’s never gonna say it out loud)

I think that Blake’s involvement will also make Weiss feel like she should back off yang a bit to make room for yang and Blake to make up but also angry at that thought because! No! She earned this new friendship with yang! This is one of the closest friendships of her LIFE rn and she’s not super chill with the idea of leaving it but then again she REALLY wants yang and Blake to get along again and knows that it’s the only way for yang to deal with a lot of stuff and she loves Blake and wants her to feel like part of the team and then on the other other hand she ALSO knows there’s not a guarantee Blake’s sticking around (however in Weiss’s pov that comes a LOT from a place of genuine sympathy and understanding) which could really really hurt yang

Also it would make Ruby feel even more isolated I think which is great cause everyone should suffer

Like Weiss is obviously spending time with her and wanting to bond and get closer then they even were before but part of that desire is from her new experience getting so close to yang, and now Weiss knows things about Ruby that Ruby didn’t tell her and knows things about yang that yang wouldn’t want Ruby to know (trauma and such) so there’s a burden to their relationship

And Weiss was Ruby’s first really hard earned friend at beacon (a place where most people she knew were yangs friends and wouldn’t see her as anything but yangs younger sister) and actually got this equal but rocky mutual respect and slow developing closeness with her only for her to get closer to yang anyway

I think a LOT of the emotional beats would be the same just a small difference in context depending on what u want
