Importance of Local Business Support

Growing up with a family who owns a local business it has always been drummed into my head that local support is important. At the time, I never understood and it never interested me, however now as grownup or close to grownup, anyway I do understand what my father always meant. After all are we a relatively small city or as I call it, town and if we do not support one another then how can we expect other to find us a worthy investment.

I would love to see this town grow instead of growing even quieter and therefore fully stand behind local business owners in their quest to support one another instead of using larger outside companies when we have all the services. Since I decided to build a blog I decided to use a local company to help me get online and used Tottiko for my mobile website instead of using a huge global company that would have cost me much more as well.

When I recently had to take my car in for its annual service instead of going to Boston, which I normally would have done, I decided to unexpectedly drop in at one of the locals, Pleasant Auto Center. It was a mid-Saturday afternoon about an hour before closing time and instead of telling me to come back on Monday; they seated me, offered me something to drink and did my car service with friendliness you would not get at a large corporation anywhere.

Supporting Local Restaurants

Even though we do not have a huge selection of restaurants like some of the large cities, we do have our fair selection of excellent options when we want to dine. One of my parent’s favorites is The Colonel Blackinton Inn where the religiously go every Thursday night. I have no idea why but even at their age and no young children at home, except for me of course they still have what they call “date nights”.

Well I do suppose that is charming and romantic and probably why their marriage seems as strong as ever. I never do go with on their date nights but have been there on occasion at other times and although it is quite a charming place it is rather formal for my own taste but they do serve the best grilled rib eye steak topped with hot horseradish sauce with garlic mashed potatoes.

My favorite is the Papagallo Restaurant, which is an authentic Spanish place that serves the best Salvadorian Shrimp I have ever tasted with their in-house sauce that nobody else can imitate even if they tried. Even our local Chinese restaurant can compare with that of big cities. Hong Kong Treasure might be one of our pricier restaurants but worth every penny. Both the Sushi and their Chicken and Vegetable Pho are the best ever. then I also love popping in for a quick, yet tasty take-out hotdog from Tex Barry’s Coney Island and if I feel like a  huge and delicious breakfast, then the best place is to run into, is The Breakfast Place as it is aptly named.

Our Attleboro Attractions

We might not have many attractions in Attleboro and much in terms of nightlife yet everybody living here find it adequate and enjoy the many free options, which are basically family oriented. In my humble opinion would I regard the quaint city of ours as a great place to raise a family as we have a low cost of living and it is probably one of the safest too.

We are proud of our sacred and religious site the National Shrine of our Lady of La Salette, well known for its Christmas festivals. Locals however see it as much more and regard it as holy ground, which in fact is how it should be. It is a place where locals go when getting in touch with their natural world, decisions to make and work out their problems in a holy setting. It is a place open to all and a place we all need to find strength for everyday obstacles and facing problems and the local soup kitchen there also feeds the hungry inhabitants of our town.

The Attleboro Arts Museum is also a great museum for such a small town and even the Capron Zoo, which is also relatively small, is adequate to entertain young and old for a fun day out. Then we have the fun playground and excellent choice for parents looking for a child-friendly and inexpensive fun place for a birthday party, called BattleGroundZ. It is one of those entertainment centers that children simply never grown tired off with great splat master paintball, nerf wars, paintballing, airsoft, and a myriad of other games.

When the Young Want to Have Fun at Night

Yes obviously, when we are young which I certainly am at present and the younger crowds do need extracurricular activities that goes beyond zoos and eating in local restaurants, which I will tell you more about later. Then we go to other cities including Providence and my favorite, which is Boston. Nobody goes often, but once or twice a month we would form a group, travel to Boston, and spend the weekend drinking, dancing, and having all-night fun.

One of my favorites is going on a Booze Cruise Boatonian, which runs from a Thursday until Sundays. Located behind the Boston Harbor Hotel there is no dress code as it is one wild booze when taking the Friday night cruise and nobody has to worry when they have booked a cruise as it runs regardless of rain or no rain. It is excellent for meeting people of our own age, literally hundreds looking for fun with excellent DJ’s playing excellent dance music throughout the night.

It is quite impossible to name or even attempt to name the best Boston nightclubs however, the Bells in Hand is great for twenty somethings, college students, and tourists alike. It is a relatively small bar with wooden picnic tables, rowdy crowd, and excellent ambience. A favorite however is Abbey Lounge for a great Saturday afternoon with girlfriends and excellent up-and-coming garage bands entertaining us amidst a flurry of relatively cheap cocktails. The same goes for Avalon with laser and strobe lights and even guests carrying glow sticks and great talent for singles.

Accepting My Life in Attleboro

Good day, I am Vanessa Howard and I sure do hope I am not going to bore you with my latest venture. I have recently discovered that I love writing and as part of my therapy, I was instructed to start a diary. Then I thought to myself that it would be an even greater idea to share my thoughts via a blog, after all, I have nothing to hide. You might ask what therapy I am in, and yes, I will share with you at some point what happened in my short life that I have to undergo therapy at age twenty-two.

No, therapy is for not only the crazies as I always thought, but indeed a good measure of gaining control when you are at your lowest point in life as well. I have recently given up my studies and am back home in Attleboro after I thought I would never return. I left here five years ago and went to university at Harvard and due to circumstances decided to finish my final year at a later stage. Now I am here at my parent’s home and I am starting to see my hometown in a different light.

If you have never been to Attleboro and you are my age you might understand why I always thought that life here is simply too dull, too little happening unless you make it happen yourself. It is not quite like huge cities that is bustling with life, I always longed to get away, and live a full life filled with loads of shopping, parties each night at different clubs every night and just continuously have fun.
