Judai couldn’t tell if the man was just plain bored by his job or was just that expressionless.

“Thanks!” He chirped back, walking over to the touch screen to examine it.

“Woaaaah, never thought I’d get to see Yuugi-san’s deck like this–” He talked out loud, finger swiping the screen, eyes alight. “But it sure would be awesome to see it in person–Hey hey, Mr. Guard, is there a chance I get to look through the actual cards?” He tilted his head back at him. “They brought a copy here right? I bet you were lucky to get a look at it before hand!”

He has first hand experience in seeing them in action. Of course this was the old Yugi deck. the one before he inserted that dragon into it. Without the pharaoh input after all. And it was somewhat their fault that he had such a rare but dangerous card to begin with. 

Still... 

 “Fine. “ 

One copy deck here you go. 

But don’t bring out out of the museum. 

 “be careful with it.”

“I don’t…know about what I would have said before, or how things came to be.” A small quirk of his lips. “That much should be obvious. But who I am now–be not the Pharaoh I was, perhaps–I would consider you one. However much that means to you.” He had…absolutely no idea if that meant nothing, or if that meant everything. The Ishtars were still a puzzle to him, their inner workings and their clan history. He hoped it would at least give something to the other before him. 

“What do you…believe would happen to your clan? After your purpose is fulfilled?”

 He thinks. 

 “The tombs will be forever silent, but in peace. And the remaining Ishtars would finally see the sun. “ No pressure or anything, but there were still side families that remain underground. 

 “The tombkeepers will finally disband, only a select few will keep vigil over your tombs. But...the rest will be free to do what they wish. “

 “In truth. I...believe that the Ishtar clan had... never prepared for such a event.” 

Lost hope perhaps.  Rishid is still, a first generation tombkeeper of his own.

“The secrets of the tablet–the secrets of releasing my lost memories. You know them, don’t you? Do you know what will happen…after I regain myself?”

There is pause. 

 “I am... not a official tomb keeper. “ He is certain that Isis herself had said as much. Even if the story was not meant to be unkind to him during Battle city. “as such, I am not privy to the details of what the Pharaoh will be after you regain your memories. I can only assume you would...return to the afterlife if that is what you choose.”

There was no way Judai was missing a chance to see Yugi’s deck in person. Ideally he would love nothing more than to see it in a duel with Yugi himself but that was going to be a harder thing to achieve. 

Obviously he didn’t pick a conventional time to do this–everyone at the academy was dying to look at it. He felt bad for the guards that had to deal with the initial crowd of students. He was planning on doing this at a time no one was around–and possibly a time he shouldn’t either, but that was a minor detail.

Predictably there was someone still standing guard. Tall and definitely looking like he meant business.

Judai was not deterred by this and approached him with a bright grin, waving. “Yo, good work Mr. Guard !”

Honestly the only thing that could have made this place even more chaotic, was Yugi himself coming here. But he is still a young man who has needs and wants outside of dueling. 

He hopes. 

Rishid is unbothered by the new students that come in, his appearance scaring off most of them. Were it not for the ... brighter ones coming his way to Rishid view. 

 “If you want to look through the list of the deck. Touch the screen to your left.” He recites, face showing nothing.

He assumes wrong, and Jou gives him an honestly curious look.

“How long’s the exhibit gonna be up?” he asks. Maybe he can fit a visit in between his own classes and hospital visits. “Anything particularly interesting gonna be up?”

Jou’s passion for history may not be as intense as others, but that doesn’t mean he’s not interested in learning. Especially now, history - even ancient Egyptian history - can be incredibly useful for a law degree.

Surprise is always unpleasant. He had thought, to be honest that such a young man would be more interested in motorcycles then history. After all that was Malik doing , but no one is like Malik. No one had suffered like his brother [his own suffering not counted]. 

“One week. Then the exhibit moves to New York, and then Paris.” Thats quiet a lot of places Rishid is going to. 

Its ok. 

They all deserve this.

The tomb keeper is acknowledged with a nod, and a twitch of the Other Yuugi’s fingers. A gesture of restlessness. “I have questions of you. Are you quite busy?”

How thoughtful is the pharaoh. But -

 “No.” he lies, thinking of many things he should be doing now. “ Never too busy for you, Lord Pharaoh.”

 “Lord Pharaoh.” Soft spoken, Rishid is much different when he does not pose as his brother. But to what purpose does he come here? Is it time yet? To show him the tablet, but ...

“Oh, good for him,” Jou said, smiling genuinely. He’s always happy to hear that the friends are doing well. Especially when he’s got so little to enjoy within his own life, recently.

It’s almost an unconscious habit to tug his sleeves down over the wrist band he keeps forgetting to throw away.

“What about you, then? Are you just visiting or do you have plans?”

"Our clan... has artefacts that need to be properly distributed to the museum until I can return them. there will be a short exhibition coming soon.” He does not bother to invite the other, knowing that those who live in rich countries and play duel cards, are generally not interested in knowing history. 

He assumes.

“Eh, how-” He leans forward to get a good look at the man and then lights up with a big grin. “Rishid!”

Damn, what are the chances? Jou didn’t even know Rishid was in town, when had he gotten here?

“Man, it’s been a while, how’ve you been? Are Marik and Isis here, too?” He’s got a hundred question, and he’s thrown enough for a loop that the offer for a ride doesn’t register immediately.

“Oh, uh. Hey, wanna go get some lunch? There’s a diner near my buildin’, good food for pretty cheap.”

In hind sight, it was hard to not recognise Rishid. After all he cuts a extremely memorable figure. And he is also becoming one of the top duelists if he’s being honest. Just a touch of make up before every match right now and he’s good to go. But still he’s happy and a gentle smile blooms from his mouth like a flower in season. 

 “I would be happy to. And it is just me alone who came to Japan.     My... siblings have decided to continue Malik education.”

Spirits were a uncommon sight, the Ishtar clan daily meetings with such spirits were not a secret. Though its one that is open in the air and wildly unbelieved by those who seek their secrets. 

Still-

 “I am unsure of which plan would survive a air ride back to Egypt.” Potted plants were the topic. “Is there... a recommendation?”

The museum of dueling, or rather the museum of entertainment that Rishid thought, privately is a waste of time. Its exhibit of Yugi Moto deck, a simply copy of it, was travelling around the world. perhaps there is something more, to being the king of games. Certainly, without Kaiba help. The game of duel monsters wouldn’t have become so popular. 

Still, with support from both siblings, he guards the exhibit of one deck of cards in duel academy. A place that he feels could have done better but is doing good enough for now. 

Arms crossed. And waiting for his shift to end.

Ah, dammit. Jou should know by now how unreliable the weather forecast is, but for once he would’ve liked to enjoy a high-energy day in the sun. But no, one clap of thunder and it’s like the clouds just appeared out of thin air.

He takes off at a run, slipping under cover from the rain, beside a man he finds vaguely familiar.

“Sorry, man,” he says as he squeezes into the dry spot and pulls out his phone. Hopefully he can get a lift home from someone.

Its Joey Wheeler. Perhaps once he could have won against the boy, but he knows that he is a much better duelist now. But So is Rishid, against those who foolishly still stick to shadow games. there were many who would use the power of cards that they have bought to force themselves into the tomb keepers territory. 

It was their fatal mistake. 

 “I did not expect you , to be caught in such a torrent of rain.” He honestly did not expect to meet the other at all. Thats... the gist of it. 

 “I have a motor cycle parked nearby if you wish for a ride, Mister Wheeler.”

Soft spoken and wearing adorably long sweaters, Rishid looks up the sun for a brief moment before his eyes narrow a bit and he retreats into the shade of the building. And then just as suddenly, a torrent of rain happens. 

There is a dry spot right beside Rishid, too.
