i had a dream that there was an LPS 2012 short where pepper and sunil were in a scent war with each other

it starts with pepper preparing for a date with captain cuddles because she knows he's coming to the daycamp that day. sunil is the only other one there. blythe and the rest of the daycampers are absent, taking a walk. or something.

sunil makes an off comment about how its starting to get a little overwhelming that pepper is trying on different scents to see which one will fit on her for the date. pepper initially dismisses him, but when he keeps complaining, she throws a scent at him- maybe something mildly unpleasant, to make him shut up? i dunno. either way, it starts the battle.

the two of them run around the daycamp, with pepper spraying her own scents around at sunil. sunil makes use of the pet shop's pet cologne collection and fights back. this goes on and on for a bit.....

until they notice blythe and the others have come back from their walk. andddd captain cuddles is there now too. all of them are covering their noses and eyes in disgust and discomfort, asking what the hell pepper and sunil have done to the shop.

pepper and sunil? they sheepishly smile in embarrassment of what they've done.

Harold stood just inside the day camp room, clutching a small yellow flower so tightly he was worried he'd crush it.

Behind him, Penny gave him an encouraging nod.

"You've got this."

Harold took a deep breath.

"...Right."

He walked over, trying his best to look confident.

Russell glanced up from the book he was reading.

"Good afternoon, Harold."

"Russell."

Russell noticed the flower in Harold's paw but said nothing, waiting patiently.

Harold opened his mouth.

"...Did you know..."

He blinked.

"...Sea otters hold paws while they sleep so they don't drift apart."

Russell smiled faintly.

"That's correct."

Harold nodded, trying to keep his nerves under control.

"I... always thought that was kind of ..sweet."

Russell closed his book, giving Harold his full attention.

"It is."

Harold stared down at the flower, his cheeks growing warm.

"I was kind of thinking..."

He laughed nervously.

"...maybe we could try something like that."

Russell tilted his head.

"...Holding paws?"

Harold's face turned bright red.

"Well... eventually."

Russell couldn't help the amused smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"I was actually trying to ask..."

Harold held out the flower with a shaky paw.

"...if you'd like to go.. on a date with ..me."

The room fell completely silent.

Russell looked from the flower to Harold, saying nothing.

Harold immediately started second-guessing himself.

"I know that probably sounded weird, and I wasn't literally asking if you wanted to float in the ocean holding paws. I just meant... you know... together. Like... us."

Russell continued staring at him.

"...Harold."

Harold swallowed.

"...Yeah?"

Russell let out a quiet sigh as a blush spread across his cheeks.

"...You're impossible."

Russell then looked away, clearly trying to hide his smile.

"...and definitely the only guy I know who’s use fun facts to your advantage."

Harold gave a chuckle.

"...that plan sounded better in my head."

Russell laughed softly.

"And It was... surprisingly ..charming."

Harold blinked.

"So it’s a date?"

Russell accepted the flower, his blush deepening.

"...Yes."

Harold stared for a second before his eyes widened.

"...he..he..."

Russell rolled his eyes smiling shyly.

For a moment Harold was completely frozen.

Then he threw both paws into the air.

"HE SAID YES!"

Cheers erupted from the others watching nearby.

"I knew he'd say yes!" Zoe cheered.

Sunil smiled warmly while Minka clapped excitedly.

Vinnie laughed. "It took you long enough."

Harold grinned from ear to ear.

"I can't believe that actually worked."

Russell shook his head with an affectionate smile.

"I can't believe that's how you chose to ask me."

Harold chuckled.

"So... no floating in the ocean?"

Russell laughed.

"...Let's start with dinner."

Harold's grin grew even wider.

"I'd like that."

This ship is so new to me but I’m definitely not hating it! I definitely need it think of more ways to write out their dynamic!

digby has wormed his way into my brain somehow and i'd like to know if you have any headcanons for him. what his owner/s are like or what they do. or hell, maybe even a human au for digby himself. his job, what he likes to do with his time, etc. maybe what he's up to with zoe? or the other daycampers/her friends? up to you my friend

if time, energy, and motivation allows, i'd be delighhted to hear what you think hehehe. and if not, that's okay and i hope you have a good rest of your day ^^

Oh Digby he’s been in my head a time or two but I feel like he’s been on the back burner so to speak 😅

But here are my thoughts on him so far that I can think of right now:

let me start off with the non-human version because I have the most to say about that one, lol.

I see Digby as Zoe's on-again, off-again boyfriend. They fight, break up, and get back together all the time. I mean, yeah, he loves her, but he doesn't really know how to treat her the way she wants to be treated. He's stuck in this sort of toxic loop with her.

They both flirt with other people on the side, but they get mad at each other for doing it. Digby also thinks he has to be the man of Zoe's dreams, which means he gets into small fights with other men to prove he's the better choice. He's even tried doing it with Zoe's guy friends so they don't show him up either, but they usually just brush him off.

He posts a lot on social media and loves high-end products. Of course, he goes to the gym to keep himself in good shape. He's also pretty hairy, with facial hair and plenty of chest and underarm hair.

At heart, he's actually really sweet and usually pretty calm, but he doesn't quite know how to be the kind of man Zoe needs yet, lol.

As a pet, he seems really nice!

I see his owners as being really cool people who take him everywhere with them. They love taking pictures of him, and I could even see him being a model! He'd probably have a social media account where they post tons of adorable photos and videos of him because he's just that photogenic.

He works at a gym right now, but his dream is to become a model or somehow get rich. He hopes to be the next big thing, kind of like Zoe.

He's had a few successful ventures, but nothing that's been enough to get him out of where he is yet. Even so, he refuses to give up. He still sends in modeling photos whenever he can and eagerly waits for callbacks, hoping that one day someone will finally give him his big break.

Zoe's friends don't exactly like or hate Digby. They all have different opinions of him.

Pepper definitely doesn't like him. As Zoe's best friend, she's told her time and time again to ditch him, but Zoe never listens.

Penny isn't a fan of how flirty Digby can be, but she does enjoy the attention to a certain degree, so she usually lets it slide.

Minka doesn't pay much attention to Zoe's love life anymore. She's learned it's better to stay out of it.

Vinnie actually tried to be friends with Digby, but Digby played way too rough with him. Sunil got upset and put a stop to them hanging out unless someone else was there to keep an eye on things.

As for Russell, he basically pretends Digby doesn't exist, except when he's being polite. He wants absolutely nothing to do with the drama between Digby and Zoe because it stresses him out way too much, lol.

That’s all I have so far but I feel like I should put more thought into him now so there may be more to come!

What do you the other pets think about Penny's polycule?

Russell- wanted to learn more about it seeing as it’s a topic he was unfamiliar with but he was pretty supportive even if he doesn’t really understand it quite yet or how Penny could make it work lol

Zoe- once Penny told Zoe she had to admit she was a bit jealous that Penny had so many more lovers than she did in that moment and that she got to see and talk with them often but she did eventually come to terms with it after having a think on it she eventually apologized and came to Penny for gossip her girlfriends get where they live and in return she’d offer fashion advice and outfits for Penny to give them as well (she’s dying to meet them irl though)

Vinnie- was confused for a bit not really understanding that Penny was talking about different pandas and not just one when talking open about her relationships but after some discussion and a slide show Russell made he now understands and thinks it’s petty cool 😎

Minka- was so happy for Penny she immediately had a ton of questions and wanted a ton of pictures so she could make papier-mâché versions of her girlfriends for Penny to take home she’s the one who hypes Penny up when she talks about them when she’s around

Pepper- couldn’t believe it she thought it was a prank it took a bit for everybody to convince her that it was real and that Penny was telling the truth once she understood she was pretty supportive but said she couldn’t miss the opportunity to work in new jokes just for the situation and Penny’s girlfriends in general

Sunil- was supportive but worried he immediately thought of all the ways things could go wrong having so many possibilities of a relationship like that working Penny did however have so many positives to Share with him that his worries for her dimmed and his support ended being very positive afterwards :)

Just as they'd promised the day before, Pepper, Penny, Russell, Vinnie, Minka, and Zoe had all met Sunil as instructed.

They gathered in one of the quieter corners of the shop.

Nobody rushed.

Nobody asked what the meeting was about.

They simply waited.

Sunil looked around at all of them.

Yesterday, asking everyone to meet had been the easy part.

Actually telling them...

That was much harder.

Pepper noticed the nervous look first.

"You know," she said with a small grin, "unless you're about to tell us the fish have unionized, I think we’ll be ok."

A few quiet chuckles broke the tension.

Sunil smiled.

"I... I've been trying to understand something about myself for a really long time."

Everyone fell quiet again.

"You see..I've never really felt like a ..boy."

She took a shaky breath.

"And I think I finally figured out why."

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"Well it’s because well I’m..I'm a ..girl."

The words hung in the air.

"My name is still Sunil... at least for now. I actually still like it. But I'd really like everyone to use she and her pronouns."

For a few seconds, no one spoke.

Then Minka smiled.

A warm, gentle smile.

"Thank you for trusting us with that."

Sunil felt tears beginning to gather.

"I was really scared."

"You don't have to be," Minka said softly.

Before Sunil could say anything else, Penny threw her arms around her in a hug.

"I'm so happy you told us."

Sunil hugged her back.

"...You're crying."

Penny laughed through the tears.

"They're happy tears!"

"I can't help it."

Sunil couldn't stop smiling.

When they finally let go, Russell let out the biggest sigh of relief anyone had ever heard.

"Oh, thank goodness."

Everyone looked at him.

"I thought you were going to tell us you accidentally broke the TV."

"...What?" Pepper laughed.

"My favorite show is on next week!"

Russell defended himself.

"I've been avoiding spoilers for months!"

Sunil laughed so hard she nearly doubled over.

"No thankfully I did not break the TV."

"Excellent."

Russell nodded seriously.

"And congratulations."

That made everyone laugh again.

Pepper folded her arms with a smirk.

"So..."

She looked Sunil up and down dramatically.

"I guess this means I'm officially outnumbered by fabulous girls."

Zoe laughed.

"Oh! Speaking of fabulous..."

She grinned at Sunil.

"I can finally give you fashion tips."

Sunil blinked.

"You want to?"

"Absolutely."

Zoe nodded enthusiastically.

"We're going to find clothes you love."

She pointed dramatically.

"You are going to look just beautiful."

Sunil laughed.

"I'd like that."

Minka's eyes suddenly lit up.

"Oh!"

Everyone looked at her.

"I have an idea."

"What?" Russell asked.

"I want to paint this."

Sunil tilted her head.

"...Paint what?"

"This."

Minka smiled warmly.

"You finally getting to be yourself."

"The happiness."

"The colors."

"I think it'd make a beautiful painting."

Sunil felt herself getting emotional all over again.

"I... I'd love that."

After a quiet moment, Zoe asked,

"So... what can we do to help?"

Sunil looked at her.

"What do you mean?"

"Whatever makes things easier," Zoe said. "Do you want us correcting people if they use the wrong pronouns? Helping if you're nervous? Anything."

Sunil nodded.

"I'd really appreciate that."

"Done," Zoe said.

Vinnie folded his arms.

"Okay."

Everyone turned toward him.

"I've got one question."

"What?" Penny sked.

"If somebody's mean to you..."

He looked completely serious.

"...can I punch them?"

Russell immediately sighed.

"Vinnie."

"What?"

"No punching."

"Not even one?"

"No."

"What if they really deserve it?"

"No."

"What if I punch them emotionally?"

Russell raised an eyebrow.

"...How would you even do that?"

"I don't know yet."

Pepper nodded thoughtfully.

"I'd watch that."

Russell groaned.

"You two are impossible."

Vinnie looked back at Sunil.

His joking expression softened.

"...Seriously, though."

"If anybody gives you a hard time..."

"They answer to all me! Well I mean..us."

Sunil's eyes filled with tears again.

"You'd really do that?"

"Without question," Vinnie said.

Penny nodded.

"We've got your back."

"Always," Minka agreed.

"You're family," Russell added.

Pepper smiled.

"And for the record..."

She nudged Sunil's shoulder.

"You're still the same giant nerd you were yesterday."

Sunil laughed.

"I know."

"You're just a giant nerd who's a girl."

"...Fair."

Everyone laughed.

Standing there between her friends,Sunil realized something.

She'd spent months imagining every possible way this conversation could go wrong.

Instead, she'd been met with hugs.

Happy tears.

Jokes.

Promises of protection.

Fashion advice.

Plans for a painting.

And six friends who loved her exactly as she was.

For the first time in a long time...

Sunil felt completely seen.

Do you have any ideas on the personalities of Penny's polycule members?

Mei- she’s such a quiet little thing! She doesn’t often get loud at all and is very shy but when she’s comfortable around you she’ll talk your ear off!

-She is very creative and loves to read,draw and knit! Often times she’ll try to make things she thinks her girlfriends will like but gets so embarrassed if she thinks they aren’t good enough

-she’s very reserved and likes to be alone to recharge, especially after the long calls with her girlfriends. She loves them a lot, but sometimes needs space and they all understand that. 

-she also cries a lot! Almost as much as Penny because she’s sensitive

Willow- she’s got such a Mom personality making sure that the other girls have exactly what they need checking on them, making sure they hydrate or eat when needed

-she’s a empathetic listener and often is very wise beyond her years knowing exactly what to say, and just how to say it so they all come to her for advice or if any of them are fighting, need to vent ect.

-she’s very affectionate often times being the one who wants the most kisses,cuddles and hugs from her girlfriends when they get to on occasion, meet up! (she also tries of give them pet names that never stick lol)

Luna- she wild and free! Sometimes you can’t tell if she’s coming or going even if you think you know what she’s going to say or do next you don’t

-she’s very protective of all of her girlfriends she would definitely be the first one to fight Anyone who would dare say or do anything negative to them

- she’s very loud, energetic and has a very outgoing personality! She’s also pretty strong and loves to give bear hugs!

The pets going to high school?

I love it when they are in school it’s just so fun! So many possibilities!

Hallways buzzed with chatter as students poured out of class. The seven friends claimed their usual spot by the lockers, all looking like they'd just survived a battle instead of a history test.

Vinnie flopped dramatically against his locker.

"I failed."

Pepper rolled her eyes. "The teacher hasn't even graded them yet."

"I know, but I can feel it. Question four? Didn't know it. Question nine? Guessed. The essay? I started talking about the wrong war!"

Sunil adjusted his scarf nervously.

"I... think I did alright. Maybe. Unless I misunderstood half the questions. Which is entirely possible." He sighed. "Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, perhaps I did terribly."

Penny smiled confidently.

"I'm sure everyone did better than they think."

She folded her test review sheet a little tighter behind her back.

Please let that confidence not come back to haunt me...

Minka bounced from one foot to the other.

"I couldn't stop fidgeting! My leg kept shaking the whole time. But..." she grinned sheepishly, "...I'm pretty sure I filled in almost every answer, so that's gotta count for something, right?"

Pepper shrugged.

"I wasn't worried. I cheated off Russell a little."

The whole group froze.

From the locker behind them, Russell slowly looked up from organizing his books.

"...You WHAT?"

Pepper blinked.

"What? Just a couple answers."

Russell looked genuinely offended.

"Pepper! I studied for days! You could've asked me for help before the test!"

"I figured it'd save time."

"It does not save time if you're copying the wrong answer!"

"You got them wrong?"

"I don't know!" Russell threw his paws into the air. "Now I'm worried because you copied me!"

Vinnie gasped dramatically.

"So you're saying we're both doomed?"

"I am not saying that!"

Before anyone else could speak, Zoe laughed. She was sitting nearby, texting.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Without looking up, she said, "As always, I did fabulous."

Everyone turned toward her.

"You actually finished the test?" Sunil asked.

"Mhm." She sent one last text before glancing up. "And I have the essay, also."

"You finished the essay?" Penny asked.

"Yep." Zoe shrugged. "Pretty sure I passed."

Russell blinked.

"So..You were paying attention this whole time?"

"I can text and listen."

Her phone buzzed.

She smiled.

"Oh, my sister says if I fail, I can blame the educational system."

Pepper nodded approvingly.

"I like your sister."

The final bell then rang through the hallway.

Students immediately began streaming toward the exits, lockers slamming shut as conversations filled the halls.

Vinnie stretched.

"Well... that's the last class of the day. Who's doing what after school?"

"I'm going to the mall," Zoe said. "I need new headphones."

Penny smiled.

"I'll tag along. I wanted to stop by the bookstore anyway."

"Perfect."

Minka nudged Pepper with a mischievous grin.

"Wanna go explore that abandoned trail behind the park?"

Pepper's ears perked up.

"The one we're definitely not supposed to be on?"

"The very one."

"I'm in."

Russell frowned.

"...That sounds incredibly unsafe."

"It'll be fine," Pepper said with a wave of her paw.

"I strongly disagree."

Vinnie slung an arm around Sunil's shoulders.

"What about you? Come over to my house. We've still gotta beat that co-op game."

Sunil smiled.

"I'd like that."

Russell adjusted the books in his arms.

"I really should spend the evening studying."

Vinnie groaned.

"Russell, the test is over."

"I know, but there are always future tests."

Sunil thought for a moment.

"Well... your house is only a few minutes from Vinnie's, isn't it?"

Russell blinked.

"...It is."

"You could study for a little while," Sunil suggested, "then come over for an hour."

Vinnie pointed excitedly at Sunil.

"Exactly! See? Sunil gets it."

Russell hesitated before letting out a small sigh.

"...One hour."

Vinnie threw both fists into the air.

"YES!"

Russell quickly added, "Assuming my homework is finished."

"I'll take it!"

The seven friends then walked out of the school together into the warm afternoon sun before naturally splitting off toward their different plans.

As they waved goodbye, the history test was already the last thing on any of their minds.
