Coursework Evaluation
Overview
Overall I am pleased with the outcome of my coursework blog as it shows the amount of work I put into the course and shows how I have progressed with my Photoshop skills over the year, I have achieved some complex pieces and some powerful pieces to portray what my original task was.
Strengths and Weaknesses
My main strengths with my coursework are creating many different contrasting images based on my tasks however my annotation and written work is very weak. I think that the use of following online tutorials but changing parts of them to make my work more unique allowed me to experiment with new and unusual Photoshop techniques to make my work seem more interesting and different from other peoples work. However I chose to follow some that were far to complex for my current ability’s, meaning that some of my work came out messy and a much lowers quality to other pieces.
How artists connect to final pieces
Many of my pieces did not actually relate to the artists I looked at as although I did like their techniques and thought they looked suitable for the task, I experimented with a wide range of styles to create a strong contrasting final piece, I used some basic techniques and looks that the artists created however I changed a lot of these to make my work seem more original to theirs.
Reflection on areas where work has progressed
At the start of the course I was creating quite simple images using simple techniques, however towards the end I began creating much more complex designs that were much more interesting. The quality of my photography has also progressed throughout the course, as I experimented with using props, different backdrops and lighting, and also different angles and ways of taking the images, to create a contrast in my work rather than having all of my primary images looking much the same. My choice in artists also improved as I began to choose artists that I liked but also that relate closely to what I aimed to create for my final piece. My techniques I have used have also progressed as I have learnt new ways of doing things that allow much more freedom when editing images to create a more complex original designs.
Materials
The main materials I used for the course were photography and Photoshop, I experimented with some other materials such as hand drawing and printing, however I did not like using these techniques and had little ability in them, and so I continued to use Photoshop throughout the course as my main material.
How my design will work in a real context
I think my designs could work in a real context as the logos are simple enough to be photocopied and printed many times over, my advertising is usualy quite bright and bold, and my final piece had an unusual cover which could attract attention, as throughout the book is much the same in that it is contrasting and some aspects are quite unusual.
