Sometimes time seemed to crawl by, barely moving, while he worked, and other times hours passed by in what felt like seconds. After days without his powers, maybe it was the relief that accompanied their return that gave him one of those quick days. With Luna’s help and the extra hands the students provided, they managed to clear out the clinic faster than he would’ve had a chance of doing on his own, and he was able to pour all of his own focus into the truly wounded or ill.
By the time he got the chance to speak to Luna again he was still exhausted, but it was nowhere near the level of wiped out that he would have been had she not showed up and offered her help. He would sleep long and hard when he finally stopped to rest. In the mean time, he sent the last patient (for the time being) out the door fully healed and sank into the chair behind the desk to offer Luna a half-smile.
“Does it make you tired? Doing what you do? I don’t think I’ve ever asked.” Not everyone experienced the kind of drain that Josh did, and he was very, very envious of that.
Luna offered a sympathetic smile when she saw how tired he was. He didn’t even need to say anything. She could feel it rooms over. It wasn’t something she could identify with, at least not in the conventional way, but it was clear the evening hadn’t been easy for him.
Now that there weren’t any patients left, she set about straightening the room and making sure everything was put away and in its proper place. Physically she felt just fine. Her feet did hurt a bit, but these were also new shoes and they pinched her feet.
Glancing over, she shook her head. “No. Not like what you’re feeling, but...” She sighed and picked up a bottle of water. “Sometimes it is exhausting to turn everything off.” There were certain strategies she had that helped shut out emotions belonging to the people around her, but it wasn’t something that came naturally. She crossed the room and held out the water for him to take. “Is there anything that helps you feel better?”

For the two days his abilities had been suppressed, he’d been able to offer little more than a human physician could have. The clinic could triage, treat wounds, give medicine, and he could even set broken bones in a field-medicine type of way, but as far as real healing…it had just been a waiting game. Everyone who’d needed that had started to show back up as soon as the inhibitors were off. Unfortunately for them, Josh’s energy was finite. He couldn’t exhaust himself completely or he risked shutting down even longer than the two days, and the District couldn’t afford that.
Having Luna show up was a relief. Even though she’d needed to be in and out of the city a few times, it was always helpful to have her there. She had a way with patients, she was comforting, and he could rely on her to stick around. He was already tired by then, but not the kind of tired that was worrisome yet. “Can you triage the people waiting? I have to prioritize. If they can wait another day or two, I need them to wait. If they’re new and need basic treatment, send them to one of the students.” He needed some semblance of order without having to do it himself.
He looked up from what he was doing and briefly glanced toward her. “Thanks for coming.”
Luna’s frequent trips in and out of the city were usually at her father’s urging, or to visit her mother, but it was always difficult for her to turn her back on Star City for any amount of time. Her thoughts would wander back to what she might have left behind and she’d sit, quiet and stricken, until she’d worked herself up over nonexistent worries. It was difficult not imagining how things could spiral out of control. She’d seen it herself too many times. There was such a heavy feeling of fear that sometimes she was choked by it.
The clinic, thankfully, was a respite from that. Most people were relieved to be seen to, listened to, and were too grateful to be overcome by negative thoughts. “Of course,” she agreed immediately, understanding the need to thin out the burgeoning crowd. There weren’t even any chairs left for people to sit in.
Nodding, she smiled at Josh before immediately setting off to do what he asked. It was difficult turning people away, but most of them seemed to understand that there wasn’t much to be done over minor injuries. A few could be easily handled by a student or even a seasoned tenant of the safehouse who’d been around long enough to manage splinting a finger. Luna handled a few issues herself, but quickly came to find that being soothing was enough to temper and mitigate things. After some time, the crowd tapered off and the only ones waiting for Josh were only those who truly needed his assistance.

“Oh, well, if there’s only a low percentage of being held hostage then I guess I’ll keep coming,” she said with a little grin. Some of the other people there were no doubt afraid, but fear was usually a pretty foreign concept for her. It only settled in if she really, truly felt like her back was against a wall. Flox was careful not to let that happen; she gave herself at least two openings in any situation.
She typically wasn’t one to play hero on purpose, but in any given moment she was willing to do what was necessary to protect herself. Sometimes it meant looking after other people, too. For the time being, she was in the same situation as the other hostages. All of them staying safe and calm was in her best interest and theirs, so she kept talking. The blonde girl didn’t seem to mind it. “I’m Flox, by the way. If we’re going to be held at gunpoint together, might as well introduce ourselves.”
Luna found it difficult to smile, she was too distracted by others’ fear and the bristling anxiety that came from the men guarding them, but she managed a half-one for the girl’s sake. She knew she was saying something, but she barely heard what it was.
“You’re right. I’m Luna.” Her gaze shifted to Flox and she managed a more genuine smile that time, even though it was strained. There was a calm energy that she exuded, at least, which certainly helped at a time like this. It made it easier for her to focus on the gunmen. She might not have noticed the panicked feeling that suddenly burst from one of the criminals like white hot light. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him jerk and she focused on him immediately, quelling the overreaction before his finger could squeeze the trigger. He thought one of them was reaching for a phone.

Now that people had their powers back, Luna finally leave the safety of Wanda’s home and visit Josh’s clinic. She had no idea how he managed to cope without his abilities, but the thought made her feel concerned. He took a lot on his shoulders and it wouldn’t have been easy to realize he couldn’t do anything for so many patients.
When she let herself in, she was struck by the number of people waiting to be treated. Blinking, she slowly went to the door and knocked, very softly, waiting until she heard Josh’s voice before daring to slip inside.
“Hi,” she whispered quietly, not wanting to interrupt since it seemed he was with a patient. “Can I do something to help?”

“…You know, dog walking sounds like an awesome way to earn some money,” she can’t deny that as one of the dogs tries to lick her face. The internship was great of course, though she expected Bruce Wayne may not take her suggestion of more pets very seriously, “my tolerance for ramen is slowly thinning. it’s a race to the end of the semester at this point.”
Cassie’s smile lights up with a quick nod, though her voice is still quiet, “I mean, I’ve been an intern at Wayne Enterprises, but that’s just as Cassie. He was full-on Batman. But like… everyone. The whole freakin’ bat family. Wonder Woman was there, The Flash… also Avengers but I’m just used to them at this point?” she looks at the other curiously, “…You seem very interested. Have you talked to Wanda about it?”
“It’s the best way to make money,” Luna agreed simply, smiling as she watched Cassie with the dogs. “Ramen is good, but you should also eat other things.” She’d taken a nutrition class last year. Only eating Ramen was said to be a negative thing.
Her eyes widened at the impressive list of people Cassie listed, amazed, but her eyes took on an awed sheen at the mention of Wonder Woman. “She’s one of my favorites.” Pausing, she nodded slowly and tried not to look nervous. “Yes. She told me she would let me talk to them. I think I’m just... intimidated. I’ve never met either of them before, even though Bruce is dating Aunt Wanda.”

The hostage situation wasn’t improving. Luna’s awareness of the men’s rising panic almost made her feel nauseous and she swallowed hard, her arms crossed tight over her chest.
Then - and all of a sudden - nothing. It was as if her entire body went dark. Her eyes widened and she sat up, her gaze darting between the men around her as if they would offer some explanation about what just happened. She couldn’t feel anything anymore. How was that even possible? She felt strangely numb. Was she drugged?
“Something’s wrong,” she whispered to the person next to her, her voice trembling.
