If you are Canadian, tomorrow is not a day of celebration. It is a day of mourning, of grief, and most importantly, reflecting and educating yourself.
Please take the time to start conversations (no matter how uncomfortable they make you feel!!), and educate yourselves!
Here is a FREE course offered at the University of Alberta called Indigenous Canada: https://www.ualberta.ca/admissions-programs/online-courses/indigenous-canada/index.html
Here are two Indigenous-owned bookstores, where you can find plenty of resources, books, and memoires by Indigenous authors.
If you are able to donate, here are some charities you can donate to, to help residential school survivors and the Indigenous community.
Residential Schools Survivors Society
Native Women’s Resource Centre (Toronto)
Legacy of Hope Foundation
Orange Shirt Day Organization
First Nations Child & Family Caring Society
Last but not least, here are some resources if you are an Indigenous Canadian who is suffering with their mental health, grief, and everything in-between:
Hope For Wellness Toll-Free Phone Number
Hope For Wellness Online Chat (With Counsellors)
If you do not live in Canada, consider donating to any of the charities/foundations above if you are able to!! And at the very least, please boost and spread the word. Canada was founded by Indigenous people, and then built on stolen land and genocide. Cancel Canada Day.
