Natural wedding photography
With so many wedding photographers to choose from, I know it can be difficult to make a decision. After all, your choice of wedding photographer is a huge decision! You will have your photographs forever; a lasting reminder of one of the most special days of your life.
My approach is to capture high quality, natural images that tell the story of your day and capture the essence of your relationship. I’ll take the time to get to know you before your wedding. I think it’s really important to build a rapport in order to help you to feel relaxed in front of the camera on the day.
I promise you don’t need to worry about feeling awkward or how you’re going to look in the photographs. Most of the couples I work with would describe themselves as a bit camera shy, but they always end up enjoying their wedding photoshoot and looking their best in the pictures!
My calendar is filling up quickly for 2020, 2021 and beyond, so please get in touch today to start planning your wedding photography!
Here are a few testimonials for some of the couples I’ve had the pleasure of working with recently.
“We booked Karen for our wedding on 9th August 2019. We had an amazing service start to finish, with plenty of communication from the time of booking last year to the actual wedding day. A lovely, bubbly lady who makes you feel at ease. Our photographs are out of this world. We got married in the Scottish Highlands and didn’t know the area well. Karen took beautiful pictures at the wedding venue and then as an added personal touch, even took us to a few locations she recommended for additional shots. Would highly recommend Karen for a professional, trustworthy and friendly service.”
Stephanie and Daniel Ross Wedding venue: Caledonian Cabin, Invergarry Wedding date: 9th August 2019
“Our wedding photos are just fantastic! Could not have asked for a better service. Karen is so friendly, she made everyone feel so relaxed. She was happy with all photo requests and all the guests commented on how great she was.”
Gwen and Steve Tynan Wedding venue: The Waterside at Glen Mhor, Inverness Wedding date: 27th June 2019
“Karen is so lovely to work with! The photographs are fantastic, love the shots and she is fabulous at capturing those candid moments! So easy to get in touch with and really fast responses. Nothing is too small! Absolutely would recommend Karen to anyone looking for a wedding photographer! Thanks so much again Karen for everything! Capturing those special moments for us to treasure forever!”
Kylie and Martin Ashman Wedding venue: Dornoch Registry Office Wedding date: 22nd June 2019
“We can highly recommend Karen as a wedding photographer. Our photos, which I can’t stop looking at, are brilliant and most importantly really captured the essence of the day and our guests at the wedding. From first meeting Karen, we could tell she was genuine and kind, she really took notice of the things important to us and our day. She was calm influence on the morning before the ceremony and our guests have spoken highly of how discreetly she moved around the wedding getting pictures of everyone.”
Lorna and Daniel McGee Wedding venue: Dallas Church and Village Hall, Moray Wedding date: 25th May 2019
“We couldn’t have been more delighted at having Karen photograph our wedding. From planning beforehand, to delivery of the photos, Karen was excellent throughout, and lovely to work with. Most importantly, the photos were absolutely fantastic! We can’t recommend enough!”

Seven Scottish Wedding Traditions by Timeless White Wedding Planning
As a wedding specialist company, we see lots of different traditions from all over the world at our weddings. Couples who elope to Scotland from America, Canada or Europe like to incorporate as much Scottish tradition into their day as possible. Here is a list of seven Scottish wedding traditions that you could incorporate into your big day to embrace the Scottish culture.
TRADITIONAL SCOTTISH KILTS
You’d struggle to go to a Scottish wedding and not find at least one man in a kilt. Traditionally the groom and groomsmen all wear kilts of the same tartan, often the clan tartan of the family name. The bride also sometimes incorporates the tartan into a sash, shawl or her bouquet ribbons.
Quick Fact: Did you know after the Battle of Culloden in 1746 the “Highland dress” which included kilts and tartan was made illegal in Scotland for 35 years? After that, tartan became a world famous emblem of Scottish culture, having been incorporated in to the fashion world by great designers like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
BAGPIPES
Bagpipes are traditionally played as guests are entering and leaving the Wedding Ceremony – the sound of the Pipes in Scotland symbolises the start of something great! Usually the happy couple are piped in to the dining room, full of their guests, and everyone tends to stamp their feet and clap along with the piper!
IMAGE BY CRAIG & EVA SANDERS
A piper in a full “number ones” kilt outfit will probably be the most Scottish looking AND sounding thing at your wedding!
CEILIDH DANCING
Ceilidh Dancing is a very social form of traditional Scottish dancing and is done either in pairs or groups. The most popular dances that are done at Weddings are The Flying Scotsman, Gay Gordon's and Strip The Willow and are fairly easy to learn on the night. They involve a lot of spinning and skipping and are very energetic so there is usually a break between dances for a much needed beverage!
Most live Wedding bands in Scotland can provide ceilidh dancing, along with a person to call and show the moves, as well as play popular music covers too.
QUAICH
The quaich is a two handled ‘loving cup’ that newlyweds use for their first toast together as a married couple. It is usually filled with whisky and both the bride and Groom serve each other a sip from the quaich. This symbolises the trust between the married couple, to be so careful that not a drop is spilled!
Quick Fact: Quaichs said have been used in wedding ceremonies since 1589 when King James VI of Scotland gifted one to Anne of Denmark on their wedding day.
SIXPENCE IN THE BRIDE’S SHOE
Originating in Aberdeen and Angus, the father of the bride would traditionally slip a 6 pence into his daughter’s shoe before she walked down the aisle to wish her good luck and prosperity in her marriage.
HANDFASTING – TYING THE KNOT
Handfasting is the process of tying the couple's hands together with cloth or ribbon to symbolise their connection and devotion to each other. This tradition is usually used as part of the ceremony to strengthen the vows and to show a commitment to your partner and the relationship. This is where the terms 'tying the knot' and 'taking each other’s hand in marriage' come from.
Quick Fact: A handfasting wedding can be seen in the popular 1995 film Braveheart where William Wallace secretly marries his sweetheart in the forest.
BLACKENING
It is a well-known Scottish tradition that ahead of your Wedding you might be blackened! The Bride & Groom are, usually unwillingly, ‘captured’ by friends a week or so before the Wedding day. Being Blackened involves being covered in sticky, messy substances such as eggs, oil, treacle and feathers.
The tradition is mainly seen in rural areas of Scotland including Aberdeenshire, Angus, the Highlands and the Northern Isles and is said to have derived from another Scottish tradition in which the bride’s feet are washed by an older married woman from her family. In order for the feet to be washed they were first covered in dirt then over time this developed into the full blackening ritual.
These are some of Scotland’s most popular wedding traditions that you could incorporate into your Scottish Wedding. If you would like more information on Scottish traditions and how to make your wedding more authentically Scottish, contact Timeless White.

About 88 Events
Founded as an event and wedding planning company in 1996, 88 Events were pioneers in the UK event styling industry.
Kasia again:
“It's hard to imagine now, but back in the 90's, high-end decoration at events and weddings was mostly confined to London and perhaps Manchester. Even then there weren't many companies paying attention to it.
We pretty much gave birth to the event styling industry in Scotland and it's fair to say that every company that came after was inspired by us.
Anyway, we're still here after all these years and we're proud to say that our business is a truly nationwide business with over 30% of our turnover generated outside of Scotland. Some of that is down to our vast range of products and the fact we're always offering new ranges. Some of it is down to our quality guarantee. In fact, we were the first UK company to offer a guarantee on our rental linens.
But mostly it's down to the fact that we care deeply about event styling and feel that everyone deserves the best wedding they can afford.
Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion and you should never feel bad about giving yourself the best day possible.
With all that said, if you're looking to create a visually stunning wedding akin to the ones you see in our Lookbooks then we're almost certainly the company for you.
And we would love nothing more than to help you create the wedding you've always dreamt of.”

“Gavin and I can’t ever thank you enough for allowing us to have the most wonderful weekend of our lives with you at Mount Stuart. We thoroughly enjoyed every second of our wedding weekend. It was literally a dream come true and one I never thought could happen as perfectly as it did. You made us feel incredible, from the moment we arrived to the morning we left. We will treasure our memories of your kindness, warmth and expertise throughout the whole process. A particularly precious moment for us was your welcoming our dog Max into the chapel to be part of the ceremony. Many other venues would have understandably not allowed this - so thank you SO much”. “At this time last year we had put in place only a few of the ingredients for our wedding, with many decisions yet to come. During the run up to the wedding your support and professionalism made the process stress free - even where we were a touch last minute - and you set out options and ideas which we were grateful for. The House and the grounds that weekend looked, and were, wonderful. The attentiveness of the House staff was superb. We, and the guests, had a really great time. For us Mount Stuart will be a special place for the rest of our lives and we will visit when we can. Thank you very much for helping to make our wedding such a special time”.

Fiona & Craig’s Relaxed Family Wedding at Winton Castle
Fiona Ralph and Craig Shiells from Edinburgh held their summer wedding at Winton Castle with 70 family and friends on the 25th of May this year.
This is their lovely story, generously told by Fiona:
“When thinking about possible ideas for our wedding venue, we kept coming back to the idea of having somewhere that we could escape with our family and friends for a weekend and have the whole place to ourselves.
“We had imagined a fairly traditional wedding as we would be married in Duddingston Kirk so we were looking for something that would be reasonably close to the church. We live on the east side of Edinburgh and knew that East Lothian had a brilliant selection of beautiful venues and that the location would work well for the majority of our guests.
“We had seen Winton online and made initial contact to visit the venue. Rae immediately made us feel at home when we visited and as soon as we stepped through the door with the roaring fire and stunning surroundings, we began to get really excited!
“The Castle itself completely took our breath away with its stunning architecture and exquisite gardens. The interior of the Castle was so elegant yet had so much character and historical importance that we just couldn’t see ourselves having our wedding anywhere else!
“We also loved the size and the layout of the Castle as it meant that people could explore the different rooms without being far away from the party! The rooms all flow into each other and there were plenty of comfy seats by the fire where people could sit and chat if they wanted a break from dancing!
“It was lovely to pass by at various points and see people chatting away with other guests who they didn’t know before the wedding. After our wedding we loved hearing that people have stayed in touch and made new friends.”
Did you consider any other wedding venues?
“We viewed four wedding venues, most of which were in East Lothian. We loved one of the other venues but once we viewed Winton, all other options didn’t seem anywhere near as perfect for us!
“We loved the fact that we didn’t need a marquee and that we could have our whole reception in the Castle itself. It rained quite a bit on our wedding day but it just didn’t matter! We knew that having chosen Winton, we could take advantage of the stunning gardens if the weather was nice, but if the rain came, it wouldn’t be a problem.”
What was the format of your wedding?
“We stayed two nights in the Castle which gave us Friday to Sunday so it really felt like a wedding weekend! We arrived on Friday evening and after unpacking and settling into our rooms, we kick off the weekend with some Champagne in the garden with our family and bridal party. Then had a relaxed dinner and a lovely evening looking forward to the wedding the next day!
“The wedding ceremony itself took place at Duddingston Kirk, then we travelled back to Winton for the reception. Guests were greeted with drinks and canapes carefully made by Appetite. Andy Lucas played the piano for guests while they chatted at the drinks reception, and we had our photos taken in the gardens. One of our friends made a comment about listening to the piano playing in the venue being like walking through a scene of ‘Midnight in Paris’ which I thought was lovely!
“Not even the pouring rain stopped us getting our photos taken outside in the gardens – I don’t think you can really tell from the photos!
“After the drinks reception, we were brought through for the speeches which were followed by a three-course wedding breakfast. The level of detail that Winton go to in terms of setting the tables with candelabras, silver cutlery and crystal glassware was so beautiful to see when you walked into the room! The meal was absolutely wonderful and went down a treat with our guests.
“After cutting the cake, it was time for the band to start! They were incredible and our guests were raving about them for weeks after the wedding. We had the best time dancing the night away with our family and friends. It was such a joy to see everyone dancing, laughing and enjoying themselves!”
How was Winton's food, drink and hospitality?*
“Simply outstanding. We heard nothing but compliments about the food provided by Appetite Events and the hospitality of Winton staff. We gave our guests a choice for their meal and the organisation of this was absolutely seamless. Staff knew exactly which meal was going to who and it seemed so effortless.
“Winton and Appetite were so flexible and approachable in terms of building our wedding menu. We couldn’t have asked for more than the help and guidance given by Winton and Appetite and their expertise was so valuable.
“The service of Winton’s staff throughout the evening was wonderful. Staff were even kind enough to go round and ask our older relatives who were sitting chatting by the fire if they could get them a glass of something.”
What were your most memorable and romantic moments?
“Our guests absolutely loved being at Winton. We received so many compliments on the day from friends and family, and several months later, people are still raving about the venue! It was so lovely to see our friends and family enjoying the day and everyone felt really relaxed in the venue itself.
“The most memorable moment was meeting Craig at the altar in the church. It was a really emotional moment for both of us having been together for 10 years, since we were 16! To be surrounded by all our closest family and friends as we tied the knot was really special. We were so happy to have Craig’s grandfather say a few words at the ceremony on behalf of our grandparents, many of whom are no longer with us, and that certainly brought a tear to the eye!”
Were there any moments when things didn’t completely go to plan?!
“There were a few funny things that happened over the course of the wedding weekend – mainly before the wedding itself. The first was that the fire alarm went off the night before so two or three fire engines turned up almost immediately! After it was confirmed that there was no fire, encouraged by the fire brigade and my bridesmaids, I ended up in the fire engine with the fireman’s helmet on!
“The second funny incident was the extra guests that arrived! On the morning of the wedding, a couple of jackdaws managed to sneak their way into our Bridal Suite to join in with the wedding preparations!! Between the extremely professional staff at Winton and one of my bridesmaids, the birds were set free – it’s is one of those brilliant stories we’ll have for years to come! I can honestly say that the staff at Winton are really ready for anything!!”
How would you describe Winton’s ambience?
“When we made the initial appointment to view Winton, we knew it was going to be a beautiful venue but one thing that we didn’t expect was that we would feel so instantly at home and relaxed in the Castle. This is one thing that Winton does better than everywhere else – we were truly made to feel like we were at home each time we visited the Castle.
“We were made to feel so welcome and were truly spoilt by the hospitality of Winton staff the whole time we were there. For such a grand building, Winton is so relaxed and flexible, and has a feeling of warmth and friendliness that made our experience so wonderful!”
Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how Winton could improve its hospitality?
“I genuinely don’t think you could top it! We already knew that the staff at Winton were wonderful but the warmth, friendliness, helpfulness and professionalism of all staff was absolutely outstanding. We couldn’t have been more impressed and are so grateful to all at Winton for everything! In particular, Rae is truly one of a kind and we owe a lot to her.”

Makeup seems to be one of the last things a bride will organize for her big day, but to me it is also one of the most important. The way you look and feel on your wedding day will be captured in photos, that in years to come you will look back and reflect on. I haven’t came across a bride in my 9 years of experience that does not want to be looking her absolute best on her big day. I offer a completely professional, friendly and reliable service that will take all the stress away from you on your wedding morning.
I also offer makeup trials. This is a great chance for the bride and her bridal party to get to see how they will look on the wedding day. I aim to make this experience completely relaxed so everyone enjoys themselves but also very professional where I let the bride know exactly what will happen on her wedding morning. This is where I start to fill in the Bridal Booking Form and this contains absolutely every detail of the wedding booking which the bride gets sent a copy of. The feedback from my Bridal Booking Form is highly positive and my brides love the fact that timings and details of the day
are written in black and white, they know when to expect me to arrive, when to finish and they can also plan other things around it.
Being a fully qualified Beauty Therapist I can also offer skincare advice to my brides on the run up to their big day. I often get asked “I need my skin to be looking the best it’s ever been, how can I do that?” or “Help! I’m suffering from breakouts, what can you recommend?” With my knowledge of all the products the beauty industry offers I can also give you product recommendations to suit your skin concerns and also your budget!
There is no better feeling than to be a part of a brides wedding morning, it is the most special day of their lives and being able to help them look the absolute best version of themselves is amazing!
