Salem couldn’t help but let out a fit of laughter after he felt Angel poke his cheek, when being called cute again he playfully rolled his eyes. “I’m just..happy..y’know?..Maybe a tad smitten by your kindness..” He gives a small shrug, but there’s a little smirk across his face.
The smaller picked up his cup as well, sipping on it. This right here..it, it was nice. Different, but not in a bad way at all. “Alright that’s fair…wouldn’t want to worry you.” He smiles agaisnt the rim of his cup, taking another sip before setting it down. His breathing was regulated, but that fluttering feeling still lingered.
Without hesitation Salem pulled his phone out, unlocked it and gave it to the other. He watches Angel and laughs at his silly behavior, as he took the phone back and looked at the contact information he rolled his eyes again. “You’re ridiculous but I pretty sure I like that..”
Salem placed his phone down on the table and gave the other a nod before picking at his food again, as Angel walked away the smaller took another glance. He couldn’t help himself, though once alone he felt his entire body tremble a bit. From excitement? Nerves? He wasn’t sure, but one thing he could tell was the giddiness wasn’t going away any time soon.
He felt ridiculous as well.
Angel ran a hand through his hair, echoed to himself, “Ridiculous,” before continuing toward the bathroom. He tried to pretend he wasn’t listening for footsteps upstairs, or for Salem humming, or for the quiet little giggles Salem thought he was hiding behind his mug. He turned the shower on, steam beginning to curl around the tile, and shed the rest of his clothes. “Cute little idiot,” he mumbled, stepping under the spray. A moment passed. Water poured over his shoulders, sliding down the markings on his back, rinsing away the night and the morning’s weight. He bowed his head beneath the heat, letting himself breathe. Angel didn’t do feelings but Salem had him feeling a lot. Hid closed his eyes. Yeah. It was… nice. Against his will, but nice.
He rinsed soap from his hair, sighing. “He’s gonna get himself in trouble with that smile,” Angel muttered, then sighed “…Or I am.”He shut the water off, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it low around his hips. He stepped out of the bathroom and padded quietly back toward the stairs. Angel smirked, towel slung over one shoulder now, hair still dripping. “You still red?” he called out, leaning lazily against the counter. His gaze swept over the smaller man, lingering just long enough. “…Yeah,” Angel breathed, pretending to sigh. “Definitely still red.”He flicked a droplet of water at him.
By the time the water turned off Salem had finished up everything on his plate, even got himself another cup of coffee. He took the moments he had to himself to process everything and he was kind shocked how well he was handling this situation. He was still unsure what to think of it all, it didn’t really feel like a one night stand kind of situation…it felt, more than that but unintentionally. Salems sighs softly before sipping from his mug, he could hear footsteps echoing from the other part of the studio.
‘You still red?’
‘Yeah….definitely still red.’
The raven haired male spun immediately as heard a voice, he chuckled nervously and shook his head when Angel flicked water at him. “Hush..leave my rosy face alone.” Salems body slowly stuck his tongue out before sipping his coffee and glancing away briefly before reconnect their eye contact. This man was was just as gorgeous as he was when Salem was intoxicated, now that was a true blessing. He giggles to himself at the thought and just smirks, unsure of how he should be acting right now ..especially being sobered up. It had been so long since he’s had a decent connection like this, he felt embarrassed about it but didn’t want that to be a turn off to the other..truthfully Salem wanted to..come around more..
“I hate the idea that i’ll eventually have to go home..” He sighs softly, realizing he had spoken something he thought he said inside his head.
Salem never would have believed that someone like himself would ever fall this deep in love with another, truthfully the thought alone was so terrifying and that definitely played into why it was so hard in the beginning. Salem wasn’t treated with kindness nor care and barely got genuine affection while growing up, dating felt like a game— being used over n’ over by others..He felt like a lost cause then one day…Leo stopped him and that’s when the warmth came back into Salems life.
His lifeline was rekindled.
As Leo unclenched one of the balled up fists , Salem was almost hesitant to allow it outta fear but as soon as their fingers tangled up perfectly it eased his worry immediately. As he was sitting up he took a couple deep breaths to try and calm himself, it wasn’t til he felt two fingers under his chin that he opened up his puffy amber eyes. They were so tragically beautiful, but as Salem looked up at the other so much love was there.
He didn’t have a voice in this moment, just listened to every single word carefully as if he was trying to memorize this, like a script but it didn’t feel fake or made up. His heart raced around, part of him felt like it was going to burst though his chest.
‘You let me love you…..that’s everything..’
Salems heart was so full, it was literally overflowing and the flood gates that were his eyes couldn’t contain the pressure. Happy tears just kept rolling down his damps cheeks.
‘Im not going anywhere…Not tonight. Not tomorrow. Not when we walk into that house. Not when you’re scared. Not when you’re tired. I’m here…’
This all felt like a dream and before Salem could even think of what to say he felt Leonardo’s lips pressed against his own. In his mind he was screaming, not out of fear , oh no..From finally finding the happiness that he deserves, find a love that was pure and true..Salem didn’t want to pull away, he just uses a free arm to link around Leonardo, pouring all the passion he could into this gentle yet tender moment between them.
Leonardo felt the kiss deepen. As Salem’s arm curled around him, pulling him closer, clinging in that desperate, trembling way that made Leo’s whole heart crack open. God… he loved this man.Loved him in a way he hadn’t thought he’d ever be allowed to again. Loved him in a way that felt like fate had circled back and handed him a second life.
Leo cupped the back of Salem’s head, his palm warm against damp hair, his fingers sliding gently through the dark strands as he guided the smaller man deeper into the moment. Their breaths mingled. Salem’s tears brushed against Leo’s cheeks. And Leo didn’t care. He wanted every piece of him—messy, emotional, overwhelmed, whatever it was he wanted it.
He kissed him until he felt Salem’s shaking begin to settle, until the frantic edge eased into something more calm. Leo pulled back only when he felt Salem’s breathing hitch, not from sobs but from the need for air. He rested his forehead against Salem’s again, his breath warm against trembling lips. “Easy…” Leo whispered, brushing the corner of Salem’s mouth with his thumb. “You’re alright, sweetheart. I’ve got you.”
Leo let his hand wander down Salem’s back again, grounding him with small, rhythmic circles. He tightened his arm around Salem’s waist and pulled him fully against his chest, letting Salem settle there with his face tucked under Leo’s jaw. He kissed his hair once, briefly, reverently. The room was quiet except for their breathing and the faint hum of the heater. Leonardo leaned back against the couch cushions, cradling Salem against his chest as though settling him there for the night, his thumb brushing lazy lines along Salem’s arm. “Just stay with me,” Leo murmured, closing his eyes as he held him close. “Let this be enough.”
And for the first time in a long time, Leonardo felt it— the unmistakable feeling of home settling against his heartbeat. He pressed one last kiss into his hair, then whispered, “C’mon, sweetheart… let’s get you somewhere more comfortable.” He slid one arm beneath Salem’s knees, the other around his back. Leo stood with him easily. Salem was light in his arms. With each step toward the bedroom, Leo brushed his nose against Salem’s temple, murmuring soothing little things into his hair. “You’re alright… I’ve got you… just rest…”
The bedroom was dim, only the soft glow of a lamp touching the walls. Leo lowered Salem onto the bed with a care, never letting him go fully—never letting him feel alone for even a second. He slipped under the blanket beside Salem. Leo wrapped an arm around him, pulling the blanket over both of them. His other hand found Salem’s hair, brushing through it slowly, rhythmically—comfort, protection, affection all woven into the simple motion.
It will forever amaze the smaller how easily he was calmed by just the embrace of his lover, his voice and his scent..everything that was Leo truly was Salems safe haven. Their kiss ended to quickly but he understood this moment was tender—He keeps close to the other, their bodies were nearly melted into each other at this point and Salem was entirely okay with that.
‘Just stay with me…..Let this be enough..’
Those words rang through his ears while he felt his body being lifted and carried off to the bedroom—subconsciously he grips onto the front of Leo’s shirt and presses his lips together. “You’re…..you’re more than e-enough…” Salem whispers out, but loud enough for Leo to hear him clearly as he was set onto the bed he crawls under the blanket to get warm and was happy knowing his boyfriend was joining him right away.
As the taller got into the bed, warmth rushed all around Salems body and he hooked his arm across the man’s chest, resting his head against the side. Again, the familiar scent hits his senses and he lets out a heavy , yet content sigh. Even if he was visibly not okay, right now all of that seemed to wash away as they laid there together.
“I…love you….” The smaller whispers as the sounds from outside echoed in the room. “…I’ve been afraid of living for so…so long….but with you…I feel..alive again…” Salem whispers and clings to his lovers side. “Thank you…for…never loosing hope in me…”

Salem sat there silently as he noticed Angel was staring at him, not that he minded it, he just wasn’t used to it being a nice feeling like this. He smirks to himself as he looks into his lap, he notices the artist had moved and was getting closer. His heart raced a little and as Angel crouched beside him their eyes met and the smaller swore he was going to melt right there.
“M’glad that you were able to understand my explanation, I uh- sometimes can’t find the right words.” He chuckles shyly. Salem then continue to listen to the other, it was heart warming to know how understanding Angel truly was. He gives a small nod and that’s when he was caught off guard—
‘Why are you so cute Salem’
His blush instantly returns, it was such a cure how easily he could become flustered. These feelings felt so foreign so he wasn’t sure how he should be reacting, this was the first time in such a long time that someone actually treated him like a person. As Angel moved away, Salem immediately missed the closeness of them. He looks up slowly and locks in as the artist began speaking again. His eyes shimmered slightly, he couldn’t help but look at the other with doe eyes..it meant more than he could explain that the other enjoyed his company.
‘….my life isn’t my own.’
That caught him off guard yet again but he didn’t dare to ask about it, it wasn’t his place nor was he close enough to other to feel comfortable enough to bring that up…but he couldn’t help but curious. Another day.
‘I would really like to see you again Salem..’
Those words instantly brought him back and he swore little heart were hovering over his head, he felt so giddy and couldn’t spot himself from smiling with his rosy blush. “You..You really mean that Angel?..” He places his hands onto his cheeks and giggles faintly to himself. “I actually would really love ..to see you again, I’ll give you my number too.”
Angel didn’t freeze this time but he did look away, just briefly, like Salem’s reaction was a little too much warmth aimed directly at a man who didn’t know what to do with it. Cute. Overwhelming. Dangerous. Dammit he was hooked. So he hid it the only way he knew how, with humor and a crooked smile. “Do I really mean it?” he echoed, lifting a brow. “Salem, you’re blushing like I proposed. I said I want to see you again, not marry you.”
He reached out and gave the smaller man’s cheek a very gentle poke right where the flush was brightest.
“…Still cute, though,” he muttered quickly, Angel backed up before he lingered too long. Emotional closeness was far scarier than physical intimacy. He knew exactly how to navigate bodies, how to kiss someone silent, how to make a stranger feel seen for a night. This? This was harder.
He lifted his mug again as a shield. “Alright, heart-eyes, breathe. If you get any redder I’m going to assume you’re going into cardiac arrest.” He teased, “…And I am not CPR-certified. So don’t do that to me.”
When Salem offered his number, Angel didn’t hesitate. He held out his hand, fingers wiggling impatiently “Phone. Before you faint on my floor.” When Salem handed it over, Angel typed in his own number, named the contact simply Angel 🌶️, then just because he could turned the camera on himself and snapped a picture with an exaggerated wink.
He handed it back with a smirk. “There. Now you can text me any time. Preferably not while drunk and standing on furniture.” He grinned placing his mug down and began undressing. “Now eat before you pass out from blushing. I’m going to shower” he said loud enough to hear as he headed down the stairs.

He couldn’t help himself, though once alone he felt his entire body tremble a bit. From excitement? Nerves? He wasn’t sure, but one thing he could tell was the giddiness wasn’t going away any time soon.
He felt ridiculous as well.
‘I love you too..’ — ‘God, I love you too, Salem..’
Hearing Leonardo say it back instantly broke him and caused the smaller to cry even more, he was so full of emotion..chest was tight..he didn’t know how to react besides letting it all pour out. He hiccups lightly and just allows his boyfriend to pull him into his lap, immediately Salem lays his head against the man’s chest and closes his eyes while he focused on his voice and his heartbeat.
‘I feel grateful..that someone as sweet as you could even fathom loving me..’
Salem grips onto Leo’s shirt and sniffles. “I…I don’t want anyone but..y-you..” His voice cracked a little and he clears his throat a bit. “God I don’t know what I..I did to d-deserve you…” More sniffles echoed from the smaller, he was the one that should feel grateful so have someone in his life that truly and genuinely loved him..for him. “Ever since I met you….my heart was drawn…you were s-so kind, never ignored me..listened..and always tried…you kept trying and that’s what meant so m-much…”
His heart raced still as he listened to the rhythm of Leo’s heart beating, they were in-sync with each other and honestly, in this moment he felt like finally found where he belongs.
“..I..love you…so much…Thank you for n-never giving up on me, even during hard times…I meant i-it…” Salem gently sits up to use the bottom of his shirt to wipe away the dampness on his face and a bit of his runny nose. He felt like a mess, but with good reason. Salem closed his eyes and just focused on breathing while lost in his euphoric haze.
Every word that came out of Salem’s shaking mouth struck Leo like a quiet lightning bolt. Salem’s tears dampened the fabric of his shirt, but Leo didn’t care, didn’t even notice beyond the way it made him cradle the smaller man closer, his palm smoothing circles over Salem’s back in slow.
When Salem choked out, I don’t want anyone but you…Leo’s jaw tightened, his breath catching just once before he forced it steady again. He closed his eyes, pressing his nose into Salem’s hair with a soft, shaken exhale. “Baby…” he whispered, voice trembling despite his effort. “You have no idea what you’re doing to me right now.”
He felt Salem gripping his shirt, small handfuls of fabric balled up like he was afraid of losing him if he didn’t hold on. Leo gently loosened one of Salem’s fists, threading their fingers together and squeezing. Salem’s broken little explanations threaded through him. How he didn’t know what he did to deserve Leo, how he felt drawn to him from the beginning. He didn’t know what else to do.
When Salem finally sat up a little, wiping his face with the hem of his shirt, Leo’s heart squeezed painfully. Salem looked wrecked, tear-stained, red-eyed, nose a little pink, but God, he had never looked more real, more open, more heartbreakingly beautiful.
Leo reached out, catching the fabric gently and tugging it down so Salem wouldn’t have to use it. With his other hand, he used his thumb to swipe under Salem’s eyes again, then across the bridge of his nose, slow and careful.
“You don’t ever have to thank me for loving you.”
He tilted Salem’s face up with two fingers under his chin, as their eyes met he smiled, “You say you don’t know what you did to deserve me…” He huffed a quiet laugh, shaking his head just slightly. “Salem, I’m the one who should be grateful. You have no idea how many nights I sat awake thinking about you. Hoping you were okay. Hoping I hadn’t pushed too far, or not far enough.”
He brushed another tear from Salem’s cheek.“You let me love you,” he whispered. “That’s… everything.”
Finally, he leaned in and pressed a slow kiss to Salem’s damp cheek, then another to his temple. “I’m not going anywhere,” he murmured into his skin. “Not tonight. Not tomorrow. Not when we walk into that house. Not when you’re scared. Not when you’re tired. I’m here.”. He whispered before he leaned in and kissed him. Slow and careful, hoping to calm him but to savor it as well.

Salem laughed and playfully rolled his eyes, the rosy hues never left his cheeks..it wasn’t from embarrassment, truthfully he was always sucker for the little teasing game especially if it was harmless. He sighs contently and just watches the man pour the water into each mug—the way he was so gentle with it all clearly showed Salem this man didn’t mean any harm and that’s what Salem wanted to savor the most from all of this. Laughter spills from his mouth as Angel told him he should stay seated so he would fall over. “Maybe you’re right on that..” The corners of his mouth tugged up into a grin. “Another day perhaps~” Once Angel spun around with bread and eggs in hand, the smaller couldn’t contain a fit of giggles.
“You are to silly, but that’ll work for me~ I’m sure it’ll taste wonderful.” He mutters softly, truthfully regardless of Angels words he was naturally just in awe of the artist—like a stray pup growing attached to stranger—“You could give me cereal and I’d be pleased too, I assure you I’m not a high maintenance kind of person..” He chuckles as he watches Angel closely.
The sounds echoed through the studio along with familiar smells, it brought a comforting feeling to Salem. Something about the atmosphere here really made this easier than expected, which to him was a damn blessing.
“Yes, I assure you I’m alright thank you.” Salem flashes a quick smile as Angel chimed i but the next thing that came out of the other mouth actually genuinely shocked Salem, he was a little hesitant to respond only because he’s never had another speak this way, showing they care. “O-oh! No, no please don’t worry..I’m fine, really I swear I’m not lying….It was great, really great..actually and I don’t require space at all, this right here..this is wonderful and I was a tad confused at first waking up but again, I feel great..I’m just in genuine shock with it all, but I mean that in the kindest way…S-sorry if that’s confusing.” He chuckles and rubs the back of his neck, not sure what to make of the words he’s trying to say, he just prayed Angel understood even just a little.
His head perked up again as Angel spoke up, but this time his expression was frozen still..Did..Did he just say he wasn’t being kicked out..? He had to replay those words over in his head again, this caused his heart to thud against his chest.
‘Besides….you look good in my kitchen.’
The blush spread across his face now, spreading over his nose and truthfully he was at loss for words. Never did Salem expect to get this kind of treatment after a drunken night of fun, this felt like a dream state that he didn’t want to wake from.
Angel noticed the shift instantly—the way the color rose in Salem’s cheeks. His mug paused halfway to his mouth. He didn’t smirk this time, didn’t tease, didn’t fill the quiet with another joke. He just watched him. As if he was trying to understand why someone being happy because of him felt like such a foreign feeling settling beneath his ribs. He set his mug down, slow enough that the ceramic barely clicked against the counter.
He pushed off the counter and crossed the few steps between them, his movements unhurried, almost hesitant, like approaching a spooked deer. He crouched slightly so he was closer to eye level rather than looming above him. “You have explained it perfectly,” he continued, gentler now. “I get it. Waking up in a stranger’s bed can be… confusing. Especially when the stranger wasn’t exactly subtle about being all over you last night.” A soft, crooked grin tugged at one corner of his mouth, but his eyes stayed warm, steady. He chuckled letting his head drop before he stood up. “Why are you so cute Salem” he muttered moving back to the counter. Almost retreating.
“Listen I’m not the type to pretend nothing happened.” A pause—brief, but honest. “And I’m not the type to pretend I don’t like someone when I do.” That was as close to vulnerable as he’d come in months. “And before that brain of yours starts spiraling…” He reached for his mug taking a long sip.“…yes. I meant what I said. You look good in my kitchen.” Angel titled his head and sighed taking another sip. “Honestly, you look good on my couch. In the shower. In my bed hogging the blankets…But I have to be honest my life isn’t my own” he tapped his mug trying to find the word to explain his situation.
“Wish I could say more but that’s what I pay for therapist for” he shrugged now taking sips to stall as he found his words. “With that being said this is all we can be. I enjoy your company and the sex was great. If you could handle nights like the one we had. Preferred sober. And mornings like these I would like to see you again Salem.”
Salem sat there silently as he noticed Angel was staring at him, not that he minded it, he just wasn’t used to it being a nice feeling like this. He smirks to himself as he looks into his lap, he notices the artist had moved and was getting closer. Salem always felt comforted in Leo’s embrace, the warmth coming off the other sunk into the fabrics of the jacket, relaxing his nerves as they walked side by side.
‘Then focus on me..’
Something within the smaller lit up, it made his chest tighten but not in the way that would make someone worry..no..this feeling was from feeling so loved and cared for..heard and listened to. Salem didn’t even have words to reply with, but you could see it in his eyes that he was so grateful for the other. As they walked and Leo tucked him closer, a small smile snuck its way across his face and he closed his eyes for just a brief moment while the small gust of cold air tickled his face. “Huh?..” He perked his head upward as he heard Leo’s voice. “Oh, yeah..?” Salem chuckles to himself. “I wouldn’t mind telling you those stories..those were, good memories of mine.”
While they walked up to the apartment and his boyfriend continued to switch into his nature care taker mode, Salem squeezes his partners arm..Not in a bad way, just a gentle pulse. —“All of it sounds lovely…It’s hard to pick.” A small smile came back as he followed the other to the apartment. “All I know..is I just wanna be with you..” He mutters softly. It was clear that Salem was still exhausted from the day, physically yes, but mentally..there’s was small clutters of static. As he watches Leo unlock the door, his dissociation spell began to trickle in..staring off..just auto pilot taking over while he was lead to the couch. He stared at the floor as each thing was being removed, his shoes, his jacket then his bag..Today was a lot.
It wasn’t until his boyfriend spoke up again— ‘Hey..’ Salem blinked a couple times and lightly shook his head to snap back to it. “S-sorry..” He mumbles right before hearing those words of importance…those words that came out so softly yet full of so much love and adoration. Truthfully Salem could feel his heart swelling, leaning into the gentle touch..that alone could have had him crying right there.
‘And now you here…with someone who wants you safe..’
3…2…1
Silent tears streamed down his face and he couldn’t stop himself from showing a sad smile, as the tears continued it made Salem chuckle to himself.
“…I….I love you Leonardo…” He wasn’t sure what told him to say this, but it felt right. Salem truly loved this man with every fiber of his being and he couldn’t bare it any longer. Maybe this wasn’t the perfect moment, not like something you’d see in a movie but to the smaller..in this moment, he was so in love with the man in front of him and couldn’t refrain himself anymore.
…I….I love you Leonardo…
Then came the tears that made his chest tighten. “Hey,” Leo murmured, his tone so low it was nearly a whisper. His thumb brushed beneath Salem’s eyes, catching the tears before they could fall further. “Hey, look at me.”
When Salem finally lifted his gaze, Leo smiled small, “H my love why are you crying?” His voice wavered, just a little. Leo wasn’t immune to the weight of the moment either. He leaned forward, pressing his forehead gently to Salem’s. For a while, they just breathed like that…two quiet rhythms syncing up in the stillness of the room.
“I love you too,” he whispered. “God, I love you too, Salem.”
He said it without hesitation, because he’d been feeling it for a long time—ever since the late nights when Salem fell asleep against him mid-conversation, or when Leo found himself rearranging his entire day just to make sure he’d see him for ten minutes. It wasn’t new. It was just finally said aloud. He pulled back just enough to see Salem’s face again, studying every small tremor in his expression. His fingers slid into Salem’s hair, combing through it with gentle patience.
Leo shifted on the couch, tugging Salem carefully into his lap. Leo’s chin rested on the top of Salem’s head as he exhaled slowly. “Did you know I was terrified of the day you’d say this to me? I didn’t think I could fall in love again…especially after you stopped talking to me. And now all I feel is grateful. That someone as sweet as you could even fathom loving me.”
(( i’ll be around after work today 🫶🏻‼️))
Salem smirked at Angels little comment about him surviving the night, he rolls his eyes playfully and walked over near the other, pausing as the artist to a few steps closer as well. He looks at him, there still a hint of shyness there—
“Oh gods..you heard that?” He blushes.
“Yeah..it’s kind of a thing I do when shower..not sure why I feel so comfortable doing there but have been singing since I was a kid actually..” He rubs the back of his neck but smiles softly as Angel pushed the wet strands of hair behind his ear. The gentle touch was enough to send calm static through his body, he wasn’t afraid oh no..definitely not that, his feelings were just coming into play..Salem wasn’t sure what to feel but he knew..he was really starting to like the other already.
As the other mentioned Salems moaning, that had the smaller blushing more and nervously chuckling to himself. “Glad I could bring joy to your ear~” He said playfully. “And if you’d like..I could cook, if you’re worried about your chef skills..though coffee sounds heavenly..” He mumbled out while taking glances up at Angels face..he was so handsome, even his presence was comforting. Salem moved over to the table and took a seat, adjusting himself before his eyes landed on the other once again.
“Oh, yeah..Yeah i’m okay, thank you..” He smiles. “A little sore, but i’ll live.” Salem smirks shyly, it was nice to know he wasn’t being kicked out of the room or getting bad tension from Angel..this was, nice, different but really nice.
Angel’s shoulders eased at the sight of that smile—small, and shy. “Good,” he murmured, watching Salem settle into the chair like it was somewhere he’d belonged for years rather than just a night. “Sore means we did something right.” The smirk he flashed was wicked, but softened around the edges by warmth. He moved with lazy precision, pouring water into the waiting mugs—one chipped from years of use, the other newer, gifted. The steam curled up between them like morning fog, wrapping scent and comfort in the small space.
Angel slid a mug toward Salem with two fingers. He cleared his throat lightly and leaned back against the counter, ankles crossing, mug held loose at his chest. The boy offered to cook, and Angel huffed a soft breath. “That’s tempting, but I’d rather not have my guest do all the work.” He tipped his head, smile crooked. “Also you’re still walking like you just got off a horse, so maybe stya seated before you fall over.”
He set his mug aside and pushed off the counter, padding toward the small kitchen island. He opened the fridge, rooted around, and came up victorious with eggs, butter, and a loaf of bread. He placed them down with a dramatic flourish. “Behold,” he said, deadpan, “I can make toast and eggs. Both edible. Probably.” He paused, then added with a wiggle of his brow, “I know, I know—contain your awe.”
Angel cracked the eggs into a pan with practiced ease—man might have been lying about his “pretend” skill. He moved efficiently, each motion smooth, casual. Domestic in a way that felt… forbidden. Someone like him shouldn’t have known how to fold himself into the gentleness of a morning kitchen, but here he was. The smell of sizzling butter filled the studio.
Angel glanced over his shoulder, eyes catching Salem’s before he turned back to the stove. “You really are okay? I’m not—” His jaw shifted, searching for the words. “I’m not usually great at… checking in.”
He flipped the eggs, voice steady but quieter now. “Just—if last night was too much, or if you want space, or if you’re feeling weird about waking up here… you can tell me.” He shrugged like it meant nothing, like he wasn’t holding his breath waiting. He couldn’t place why he cared so much. It has been a while but he hadn’t changed. Or so he thought he didn’t. In the last can money was exchanged and they were back to strangers. But Salem, he made him curious. Protective of someone he just met. A faint, wry curl touched his lips as he plated the eggs, sliding them onto a dish with toast and setting it in front of Salem.
Then, with a blink, the mask slid back into place. He poured himself more coffee, returning to lean against the counter, arms folded loosely. “But,” he said, tone lighter again, “I’m not kicking you out either. I like the company.” His gaze softened as he watched Salem take the first bite. “Besides…” His grin turned gentle, teasing but honest. “You look good in my kitchen.”
Small puffs of white clouds left Salems lips as they walked together, thankfully being close to Leo helped him stay warm. Bless that his boyfriend was also smart enough to bring as jacket, he wasn’t sure what he’d do without the other honestly..
“Yeah tomorrow..if that’s okay, maybe after work? I have a short shift..” His voice was soft, it was easy to tell that regardless of this Salem didn’t want to take any part of being in that home again, though he had some sedimental items that he really wanted to keep. Hearing the other say he’d come with brought some relief and comfort, Salem just nodded to those words as a response saying ..please don’t let me be alone, i need you..
“You’re right, he’s always been kind to me. Even growing up..We used to make forts out in the woods together, catch bugs and critters…we were definitely the wild children but our older brother found it so annoying and has always been an asshole..” Salem sighs softly but gives a simple shrug, immediately shivering afterwards. Honestly all he could think about was how badly he just wanted to snuggle up in bed underneath the warm sheets and his boyfriend, he didn’t want to think about anything else til the next day..Which also made him nervous too, the thought of the both of them going into that house…
That traumatic home…It wasn’t even a home.
He gripped at the others arm like before and leaned his head against Leo’s shoulder. Closing his eyes as they walked together in-sync.
“I just wanna focus on you tonight…need to distract my head for awhile…”
Leonardo felt that small weight settle against his shoulder. He angled his body, just slightly, so Salem could lean more comfortably, guiding their steps into an easy, unhurried rhythm. The world around them carried on—cars drifting by, strangers wrapped in scarves and noise—but for Leo, everything narrowed to the quiet body pressed into his side and the faint sound of Salem’s breathing.
“Then focus on me,” he murmured, voice low, steady. “I’m not going anywhere.”He meant it—not as some sweeping vow, but as a simple truth. When Salem needed grounding, Leo was the ground.
As they turned the corner onto their street, Leo tugged Salem just a little closer, tucking him into his side to shield him from a passing draft. He pressed a kiss to the top of his head and lingered for a moment. He wanted to tell him that tomorrow could wait—that his brother’s house, those ghosts, that pain didn’t own him anymore. But Leo knew better. What Salem needed right now wasn’t advice—just presence.
“You know…” Leo tilted his head a little, letting his cheek brush Salem’s hair, “I wouldn’t have minded hearing more about bug hunts in the woods.” A soft, amused hum. “Sounds like you two were menaces.”
The corner of his mouth curled, imagining a tiny Salem running wild through the trees, pockets full of leaves and stolen critters. How a boy like that grew into someone with scars still tangled around his ribs… it made Leo’s chest ache.
“But we can save story time,” he added gently. “Let’s get home. Warm up. Maybe a bath? And…” his voice lowered, intimate but not demanding, “whatever you need from me tonight, you tell me. Distraction. Quiet. Music. Just holding you. I’m here.”
They reached the apartment building in a haze of streetlight. Leo opened the street entrance door with one hand—skill from practice—never once letting Salem slip from his arm. Inside, warmth pooled around them, tinged with the faint scent of coffee and cedar from the candle Leo had left burning earlier.
Leo guided him to the couch, easing him down as though he were fragile even though he knew Salem was anything but. He kneelt briefly to untie his boyfriend’s shoes, and helped him slip out of his jacket to put it all away. All while placing down his bag.
He stood, draping a throw blanket over Salem before settling beside him, close enough that their thighs pressed together. He reached out, brushing Salem’s hair back with the tips of his fingers. Oh how he adored Salem.
“Hey,” Leo said softly, tipping Salem’s chin just enough for their eyes to meet. There was no force in the touch—just invitation. “You did good today. Really good.”Leo smiled faintly, thumb tracing the corner of his boyfriend’s mouth. “You went back. You faced them. That’s a hell of a lot more than anyone ever had the right to expect of you.”
He let his hand slip down, resting against Salem’s chest, over where his heartbeat lived.
“And now you’re here,” he whispered, “with someone who wants you safe.” Then Leo leaned forward, pressing a kiss to Salem’s forehead “Let me be your distraction,” he murmured against his skin. “It’s only us.”
( i’ll be doing my replies once im home from work today ! ❤️ )
Salem was enjoying the warmth against his skin, he scrubbed at his scalp just singing allowed subconsciously. He honestly did this naturally to practice his singing, though it had been awhile since he’s done this comfortably so his notes were a bit rough. The soap began to lather up and now he stood unheard the spray where it rinsed away the suds, the scent immediately rushed up the males nose and caused him to let out a content sigh. It smell exactly like the other and that alone made him all giddy inside.
Happiness. Warmth. Connection.
These words are the one that stuck out when it came to thinking about the artist, never in a million years did he imagine that someone so kind hearted and trusting would stumble into his life—Nothing could compare to this natural feeling, it was almost unreal to the smaller. A giggle escapes as he tries to recall more of the night, he felt like an idiot for getting so drunk and acting like he did.. ‘Gods, I must of been ridiculous..’ He rubbed his face under the water.
So many thoughts rush in his head, parts of their night were still blurry but he could remember a bit more now that he was more sobered up. Flashes of them in this shower caused him to blush, he shook his head started singing another song to distract himself from thinking to hard..[ X ] As the words echoed in the bathroom he closes his amber eyes and tries to lock in again, this time he grabbed the small luffa and added body wash, slowly he scrubbed at his body—
An extra 10 minutes went by and the water turned off, he stood there silently for a moment before stepping out and drying himself off until he was able to get back into his boxers and pants at least. He stood up and pushed his damp hair out of his face, honestly he almost forgotten he was in Angels home. Hesitation grew as he slipped his shirt back on as well, reaching for the door he pulls it open with ease and pokes his head out.
By this time the smaller was more sobered up, his heart raced from the unknowing anticipation but he couldn’t help but trust that things were going to be fine. He takes a deep breath before shyly walking back down where he’d find Angel, as his eyes locked onto the man he just gazed at him subconsciously before speaking up.
Angel glanced up at the sound of footsteps, kettle just beginning to rumble on the stove. Salem appeared at the bottom of the stairs, hair damp looking freshly showered. The taller had retreated when hearing the water shut off. Angel watched him without a word, mug dangling loosely from his fingers, expression soft in a way he rarely let anyone see.
“Well,” he drawled, voice low and amused, “look who lived.” He set the mug down, sliding his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants as he walked a few steps closer. “Shower concert was nice, by the way.” His grin widened. “Didn’t know you had a soundtrack planned this morning.” Angel laughed—warm, teasing, but not cruel. He reached out and brushed a strand of damp hair behind Salem’s ear, fingers lingering for just a second longer than necessary. “You sound good,” he added, quieter, more sincere.
“I thought your moaning was my favorite sound. Me it's your singing” Angel stepped back then, giving the moment space before he ruined it with too much honesty. The kettle began to whistle behind him. Angel didn’t take his eyes off Salem as he reached back to turn off the burner.
“You hungry? I can make coffee, maybe pretend I know how to cook.” A lazy shrug. “Or we can just sit. I’m open to chaos.”
He gestured toward the table with a tilt of his chin, then settled on the edge of the counter, arms folded loosely over his chest as he studied Salem’s face. There was still a nervousness there—something tentative, like one wrong word might send him collapsing inward. He decided to hold back on his teasing a bit. So he softened his voice, more instinct than choice.
“You doing okay?”
Salem smirked at Angels little comment about him surviving the night, he rolls his eyes playfully and walked over near the other, pausing as the artist to a few steps closer as well. He looks at him, there still a hint of shyness there—
“Oh gods..you heard that?” He blushes.
