Off The Record
LARA X FEM READER
Lara Raj has millions of fans, but only few people see her as just Lara. Unfortunately, the one who makes her feel the most like herself is the one she's been told to stay away from.
Ignoring the warning is easier than ignoring each other.
Warnings: smoking (mentions of vaping/marijuana use), kissing/sorta suggestive content, swearing/strong language (?), contraband, sorta implied underage use of substances.
Also I don't rlly smoke so my fault if I gt the terms wrong or Whtv
I'm so sad abt Mexico's game so here is my unfinished story that was supposed to have smut😔
______________
Fame was strange and Lara Raj had learned that pretty quickly.
A few years ago, she was just another girl chasing a dream.
Now she was a part of KATSEYE, the global pop girl group who rose to fame a few months after their debut.
Being part of KATSEYE was everything she had ever wanted. The music, the performances, the fans screaming their names—it was unreal.
With fame came more hate, more work to do, less time to unwind, and more things to be careful about.
Which is why the girls tried their best to be private with what they could while also being open to their fans to create barriers and such.
For Lara Raj, those barriers felt paper-thin tonight.
The afterparty for Coachella was packed with influencers, friends of influencers, friends of friends, people who snuck in, and flashing lights from cameras.
Every smile she gave felt choreographed, every conversation felt like a networking deal, and she felt like all eyes were on her wherever she walked.
“Lara, come here! We need to get a picture together girl!"
“Lara, come say hi to this influencer?”
“My friend loves you so much if you could say hi to her-”
She smiled. She always smiled.
That was the job.
But tonight, the smile felt heavier than usual.
Suffocated by the heat and the constant, deafening thump of “PINKY UP”, Lara quickly slipped away from the rest of the girls, hunting for a place where she could just breathe for five seconds without a camera pointed at her face.
She ignored the questions from people passing by and pushed open a heavy metal exit door at the back of the venue, stepping into the hot night air of the alleyway.
The heavy door clicked shut behind her, instantly muffling everything that was overwhelming her earlier.
Silence.
Finally.
Or at least, as quiet as an alley behind a party could be.
Then Lara noticed she wasn’t alone.
Leaning against the brick wall was you.
The faint yellow glow that partially illuminated your face faded just before a thick cloud of smoke escaped your lips.
You wore baggy clothes, your body leaning on the wall, and your eyes were glued to your phone screen.
You had a chemistry quiz at 8:00 AM that you hadn't opened a single book for, but your college class felt incredibly small compared to the heavy cash resting in your inner pocket.
To you, tonight was just another night on the job. You didn't care about the music industry, you didn't care about the party.
You didn’t care about whoever contacted you for supplies, and you certainly didn't care about whoever just walked through that door.
You were just looking at your phone like the entire world could wait.
Which, to Lara, was almost unbelievable.
She was used to people noticing her.
You didn’t even look up.
A small smile tugged at Lara’s lips.
Interesting.
Before Lara could say something, the metal door groaned open again.
Daniela’s boyfriend, Jonah, stepped out into the dim light, checking over his shoulder before letting the door click shut.
“Yo,” he said, pulling out a crumpled bill from his pocket and handing it to you.
"Tell me you have something left. The music at this party is intense and I need to unwind.”
You finally looked up.
“Seriously?” you asked. “We agreed that you would text me”
Jonah laughed
“You know I forget"
“Clearly" you say rolling your eyes playfully
The exchange was casual, familiar.
Lara watched quietly, realizing this wasn’t some random interaction.
You knew him.
He grabbed the small package, thanking you before finally noticing Lara standing a few feet away, watching the exchange.
He cleared his throat, adjusting his jacket as a brief wave of panic crossed his features.
That almost told Lara everything.
“Oh, uh, Lara. This is Y/N, my friend. Y/N, this is Lara—my girlfriend’s bandmate.”
You looked over.
For the first time that night, your eyes actually met hers.
Lara didn't flinch. Instead, she took a step forward.
Even dressed down in baggy jeans and a tight top, Lara carried a natural, billboard-ready aura that made the dirty alley look like a movie set.
As her eyes locked onto yours, she braced herself for the usual reaction.
The surprised reaction.
The awkward excitement.
The “oh my god, you’re Lara Raj.”
Instead, you simply nodded.
“Cool"
Lara blinked.
“Cool?”
You shrugged
“Yeah?"
A laugh escaped her before she could stop it.
It was almost like you were treating the global pop star like she was absolutely nobody.
A genuine, intrigued smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.
Jonah smiled, raising his hands. “Well, I’ll leave you both to it before I get blamed for whatever happens here"
You scoffed, “Whatever, Jonah,” you said as he walked back in.
Once he disappeared, the alley went quiet again.
Lara crossed her arms.
“So you’re always this welcoming?”
“No"
“No?”
“You’re weird,” Lara said.
“You’re standing in an alley behind your own party talking to a stranger.”
A pause
“Fair"
You turned your attention back to Lara “Don’t let me keep you from your party”
You put the cash in your pocket and turned to leave.
But before you could take a step, Lara spoke up, her voice cutting through the quiet alley.
“What if I don’t want to go back in there?”
You paused, looking over your shoulder.
Lara was watching you, her arms crossed against her chest as she leaned against the wall, a look of pure curiosity in her eyes.
“Then go home,” you said, shrugging
“Do you want me to?”
You looked at her, confused.
“What?”
“Do you think I should go back in?”
You shrugged “I don’t know you"
That answer surprised her.
Most people acted like they knew her.
You were the first person in a while who admitted you didn’t.
Lara rolled her eyes and laughed—a real sound that she hadn’t made all night, except for when it came to her bandmates' lame jokes.
“You really don’t care, do you?”
“Not really,” you said, pulling out the vape again.
“Do you even know who I am?” she asked, tilting her head.
“Yeah, Jonah said your Lara from the band Daniela is in,” you said simply.
“So you do care.”
“No, I don’t even know you like that. I only know Jonah and Daniela. I grew up with him, and obviously, I met Daniela through him and stuff when they got together,” you said, looking at the time on your phone.
Lara nodded, processing the fact that you genuinely just saw her as a regular person attached to a childhood friend.
It was incredibly refreshing.
You looked at her for a second, noticing the lingering exhaustion in her eyes. “Do you want a hit, or are you just gonna stare?”
Lara hesitated for a fraction of a second, the strict warnings of her media training ringing faintly in her head.
Don't get photographed doing anything reckless. Don't associate with strangers. Keep the image clean.
But looking at you—so entirely unimpressed by her global status—she didn't care.
She walked over, leaning in slightly as you offered her the device.
She inhaled before slowly pushing the smoke forward with her tongue, pulling it back in with a grin.
She exhaled the final cloud with a soft sigh that felt like letting go of the entire night's stress.
“Look at that,” you said, a genuine smile breaking across your face.
“That was a good ghost"
Lara shrugged, a playful spark in her eyes.
“Not my first rodeo"
“Clearly,” you muttered, taking the vape back from her.
There was a lingering silence between you two, but it wasn't awkward.
The heavy, muffled bass of another song vibrated through the wall. A big difference to the quiet tension growing in the alley.
"So, Lara. If you're not going back inside, and you're not taking a ride home... what's the plan?"
Lara looked down at your heavy boots, then back up to your eyes. "I don't know. Anything that doesn't involve a camera."
You sighed and looked at your phone again—1:30 AM. Your chemistry quiz felt further away than ever.
"My car is parked three blocks down. I was gonna grab a drink and kill time."
“And?”
“And I was going to get food.”
“You’re inviting me?”
“I’m saying if you’re going to keep standing here looking miserable, at least do it somewhere with fries. You can tag along, but I'm driving a piece of shit"
For the first time all night, Lara didn’t feel like she had to be anyone.
Not a performer.
Not a celebrity.
Not someone who had everything figured out.
Just Lara.
“Okay,” she said.
You pushed yourself away from the wall.
“Again, don't complain about my car"
“I haven’t even seen it.”
“Exactly but when you do see it, don’t"
And for some reason Lara followed behind, texting the girls she was done for the night and she’d catch them at tomorrow’s practice.
_____________________
The next morning, Lara woke up thinking the night before had almost felt unreal.
Partly because of the performance.
But it was 100% not because of the afterparty.
It was because of you and that was the strange part.
She had met thousands of people since joining KATSEYE.
Influencers, celebrities, producers, fans, people who wanted pictures, people who wanted connections.
But somehow, the person she remembered most was the girl sitting in a parking lot at two in the morning eating fries from a McDonalds.
“You know you’re allowed to order actual food, right?” Lara had asked.
You looked offended
“These fries are food.”
“They’re barely anything"
“They're edible right?"
She laughed
Again.
And that was the problem.
Lara couldn’t remember the last time she laughed that much without thinking about how she looked doing it.
She sat up in bed, staring at her phone.
No new messages.
For some reason, she was disappointed.
She immediately shook the thought away.
She barely knew you.
You were Jonah’s friend.
That was it.
At least, that was what she told herself.
⸻
The KATSEYE dressing room was a chaotic blur of wardrobe racks, makeup lights, and hair extensions as the girls prepped for their next shoot.
Lara was sitting in front of the mirror, carefully applying lip gloss, when Daniela slid into the chair next to her.
“Lara"
Lara looked up.
“What?”
Daniela faced her
“Who is Y/N?”
Lara froze for half a second.
Not because she was caught.
Because she didn’t expect the question.
“What?”
“Jonah told me"
Lara sighed, of course he did. She gave her a small side eye through the mirror, adjusting her hair in the mirror
"Yeah, he introduced us kinda? She's nice, she let me use her vape for a second, it’s not a big deal."
Daniela gave her a look.
“His friend who was outside the party doing stuff that Jonah definitely shouldn’t have been doing?”
The makeup artist glanced between them before quietly walking away.
Lara lowered her voice.
“Daniela"
“No, listen. I’m not trying to be annoying.”
“You’re doing a great job at it"
Daniela rolled her eyes.
“I’m serious"
The teasing disappeared.
And that made Lara listen.
“Lara, you know I love you, right?”
“Obviously"
“And I’m not saying Y/N is a horrible person.”
“Then what are you saying?”
Daniela sighed.
“I’m saying she lives a completely different life than we do.”
Lara looked away.
“Meaning?”
“Meaning we have people watching our every move. We have contracts. We have fans. We have a reputation we have to protect.”
Lara crossed her arms.
“So because she’s different, she’s automatically bad?”
“No"
Daniela shook her head quickly
“That’s not what I said"
“Kind of sounds like it"
Daniela softened.
“She’s not bad. Jonah loves her like family. I know she’s loyal. I know she has a good heart"
“Then what’s the issue?”
“The issue is that she doesn’t care what happens.”
Lara went quiet.
Daniela continued.
“And that’s what worries me. She could be a bad influence Lara. For your own sake, the band’s sake, just stay away from her”
Lara paused, staring at her reflection.
“Okay” she said.
A bad influence, she thought to herself.
There was something raw and authentic about the way you looked at her last night, like she was just Lara, not a product.
And Daniela's warning only made her want to see you more.
Because who was she just to judge a book by its cover without reading the pages herself.
________________________
Two weeks later, Lara completely threw Daniela's warning out the window.
You and Jonah grew up together, so your circles overlapped naturally.
Meaning Jonah’s phone was always buzzing with parties from either his side or his girlfriend’s and of course you were told to tag along. Which to Lara seemed odd because she swears she's never seen you until that night.
So while Lara didn't seek you out actively, and you certainly didn’t chase after global pop stars, it all just came together naturally where you became a part of the routine.
A late-night hangout at Jonah’s apartment turned into Lara sitting on the counter while you fixed a loose wire on his television.
A group dinner became you sitting across from Lara, making fun of her drink choice.
“That’s the most celebrity drink I’ve ever seen.”
Lara looked down.
“It’s literally lemonade.”
“It’s lavender lemonade.”
“And?”
“And you’re proving my point.”
She laughed.
“You’re annoying.”
“You keep talking to me though.”
___________________
Eventually the texting started.
A casual group chat Jonah made to plan a beach bonfire.
Your name popped next to a string of digits, Lara wasted no time saving it.
That same night, Lara was lying in her bed at the KATSEYE dorms, the white light of her phone illuminating her face
Her finger hovered over your profile on Instagram.
Your account was private, the profile picture just a blurry, aesthetic shot of a steering wheel at night, and your bio was completely blank.
It was the exact opposite of her verified page with millions of followers.
She tapped Follow, and to her surprise, you accepted it within two minutes. You followed her back.
A minute later, her phone vibrated with a direct message.
[huhyn]: surprised you're allowed to follow people like me on your main
[lararaj]: I do what I want. Besides, nobody checks my following list at 2 AM.
[huhyn]: bold of you to assume that 🦭 don't get me banned from jonah's house.
[lararaj]: I won't. By the way, I’m also in the group chat Jonah made. Idk if my name came up to my number so its xxx-xxx-xxx
You didn't reply to the DM. Instead, a text message lit up her screen a second later from your actual phone number.
[Y/N]: If you're gonna text me, don't do it while you're at practice.
[Lara]: Good to know you're looking out for me.
[Y/N]: I'm looking out for my business, Raj. Go to sleep.
A few days later, a casual group text about grabbing diner food at 2:00 AM turned into you pulling up to the curb, only to find Lara sitting on the stairs waiting for you alone because Jonah and Daniela fell asleep upstairs.
"You're late, the others fell asleep" Lara said, sliding into the passenger seat of your car for the second time.
"I have a life, Raj," you muttered, pulling away from the curb.
"Some of us actually have to study for midterms."
"Did you pass the calc test?” she asked, a teasing tilt to her voice as she adjusted the air vent.
“B plus ," you sighed, though a small smirk tugged at your lips. "Good enough to keep my parents off my back."
"You still hungry?"
"Obviously" she said looking out the window.
You nod before reaching over and handing her dinosaur shaped fruit snacks.
Lara stared at it before looking at you. She held it up and looked back and forth between you and the snacks.
"What?" you said
"These are dinosaur shaped..."
"They were cheaper" you said defensively
"I'm sure its the same price as the other ones"
"Well they taste better"
"I don't know it looks like typical fruit snacks to me" she says opening the packet.
"They're dinosaur shaped" you corrected
"Huge difference" Lara said smiling to herself
"You're such a weird person"
"and you're still in my car so who is the weirder one here"
Lara sighed dramatically.
Silence fell over the two of you other than the music playing softly. Lara occasionally stealing another gummy packet while pretending she hated them.
_______________
Over the next month, those late-night texts became a routine Lara grew dependent on.
KATSEYE’s schedule was a relentless blur of studio sessions, rehearsals, and content shoots because of their new EP releasing soon.
Every second of her day was controlled. Except for her nights which belonged to the quiet vibration of her phone under her pillow.
At first, it was casual.
Mostly jokes.
Mostly random things.
Mostly you sending pictures of something ridiculous and Lara wondering why she was smiling at her phone.
You were blunt, sarcastic, and completely unimpressed by the pop star lifestyle, which was exactly what she needed.
When she sent you a snippet of an unreleased track, you didn't fawn over it like everyone else.
[Lara]: [Audio File - Demo_3.mp3]
[Lara]: Be honest
[Y/N]: Its good but the bass is too clean. Sounds like a commercial😭
[Lara]: That’s the point, it’s a pop song lol
[Y/N]: It’s boring tho, sounds like everything else on the radio.
[Lara]: Wow
[Y/N]: You asked for honesty?
[Lara]: I expected support 🌝
[Y/N]: You have millions of people supporting you. You don’t need another person lying.
She stared at that message.
[Lara]: Come tell me that to my face then
[Y/N]: Name the place
___________________________
That was how the secret hangouts started.
The secret became a high-stakes game.
You would text her a location, usually a low-key spot near her dorms where the streetlights were broken.
Somewhere she could sneak into your car, and she be able to slip past the security cameras wearing a completely unbranded, oversized black hoodie.
However, the girls started noticing something.
Lara was glued to her phone during hair and makeup.
A small, private smile tugging at her lips that she quickly wiped away whenever anyone looked over her shoulder.
"Who are you texting so much?" Yoonchae asked one afternoon, leaning over the back of Lara's chair with a raised eyebrow.
"You've been distracted all week" Megan chimed in
"Just my mom," Lara lied smoothly, locking her screen and tossing the phone face down on the vanity.
Daniela gave her a suspicious look but dropped it as the stylist called them to the floor.
Most of the time, the drives were quiet.
You didn't pry into her pop star life, and she didn't say or ask too many questions about who you were meeting later.
Except for tonight.
While you were stopped at a red light, Lara leaned her head against the cool glass of the passenger window and broke the silence.
"The girls were on my case today," Lara muttered, her voice flat with exhaustion.
"Jonah told Daniela about the alley, a few weeks ago. She went on this whole speech about how you're a bad influence because you drink and smoke, and how I need to stay away from you for the sake of the band."
You didn't look over at her.
You just kept your eyes on the road, taking a slow hit of your blunt before shifting into drive as the light turned green.
"She's not wrong," you said bluntly, exhaling the smoke through the cracked window.
"I don't really care about your band, but she's right. I'm a liability to your image. If you're smart, you'd take her advice."
Lara just let out a dry, quiet laugh, looking out at the passing streetlights. "Yeah, well. I've never been big on taking advice."
___________________________
After that night, things changed.
Not dramatically.
Not in a way either of you could point to and say, there. That was the moment.
However the tension between you two was a physical weight.
You weren’t just Jonah’s childhood friend who he dragged around.
You were Lara’s escape.
She looked forward to hearing from you.
The girl who didn’t care about her fame.
The girl who never asked for pictures.
The girl who never treated her like she was untouchable.
You made her feel normal.
And that was dangerous.
Because normal was something Lara had been missing for a long time.
You'd pick her up at 2:00 AM, the interior of your car smelling like spearmint and the sweet undercurrent of your vape.
You’d drive through the empty city streets, listening to blurry partynextdoor tracks, letting the cool air wash away the heavy stress of her reality.
Every casual shrug, every blunt comeback, and every accidental brush of your shoulders in the front seat was burning down a short fuse.
The pauses became longer.
The jokes became softer.
The silence between you started meaning something.
You both knew something was bound to happen.
And that scared you.
Because you knew what this was becoming.
You weren’t stupid.
You noticed the way Lara looked at you when she thought you weren’t paying attention.
You noticed the way she started telling you things she didn’t tell other people.
Things about being tired.
Things about feeling like she always had to be “on.”
Things about missing the version of herself that existed before everyone knew her name.
And the worst part?
You understood.
Because you knew what it felt like to have people assume they knew you.
They saw the clothes.
The attitude.
The rumors.
They decided who you were before they ever asked.
The difference was Lara had millions of people watching her.
You only had a handful.
But the feeling was the same.
So you did what you always did when something started becoming important.
You made distance.
Not enough for Lara to notice immediately.
Just enough.
You took longer to answer texts.
You stopped picking her up after every late rehearsal.
You stopped sending random pictures of things that reminded you of her.
You convinced yourself it was the right thing.
Because eventually, someone was going to find out.
Eventually, a picture would leak.
Eventually, someone would ask why Lara Raj was spending so much time with a girl who didn’t fit the image everyone expected from her.
And when that happened?
You knew exactly who would get hurt.
Not you.
Her.
___________
Lara noticed on the third day.
Of course she did.
She sat in the dressing room, staring at her phone.
No new messages.
No sarcastic comments.
No random complaints about school.
Nothing.
Daniela watched her from across the room.
“You okay?”
Lara immediately locked her phone.
“Yeah.”
Daniela raised an eyebrow.
“You’re a terrible liar.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’ve checked your phone like ten times.”
Lara looked away.
“I’m just busy.”
Daniela didn’t say anything.
And somehow, that was worse.
Because Lara knew Daniela understood.
It finally broke on a Friday night, right around the three month mark of you guys being less than something but more than just anything.
KATSEYE had just finished a brutal photo shoot and by the time Lara got back to the dorms, the other girls went straight to sleep.
But Lara couldn’t.
The walls felt like they were closing in, the lingering pressure of her public persona suffocating her.
She checked her phone—2:15 AM—and finally sent a single text.
[Lara]: You awake?
[Y/N]: Just finished a lab assignment. Why?
[Lara]: Did I do something?
You stared at the message longer than you should have.
Because that wasn’t what you expected.
You expected anger.
A joke.
Something easy.
Not that.
Not her thinking she was the problem.
Your fingers hovered over the keyboard.
[Y/N]: No?
A minute passed.
[Lara]: Then why are you avoiding me?
[Y/N]: I’m not
The typing bubble appeared instantly.
[Lara]: You are y/n
A few seconds passed before your phone rang.
Lara.
You stared at the screen for a few and then answered.
"Hey"
"Don't hey me y/n"
"what happened Lara?"
"Come get me please. The usual spot."
"Okay give me a few" you said and with that she hung up the phone.
________________
Ten minutes later, Lara was slipping past the lobby cameras, her heart racing in a way that had nothing to do with fear of getting caught and everything to do with the beat-up car pulling up to the corner.
She opened the passenger door and slid in, the familiar scent of spearmint and the sweet trail of your vape instantly washing over her like a breath of fresh air.
You didn't ask her how her day was.
You didn't ask about the shoot.
You just looked at her, noticed the exhaustion in the slump of her shoulders, and shifted the car into drive.
"You look like shit, Raj," you muttered quietly, your voice a low, soothing hum over the static of the radio.
"Thanks," she breathed, leaning her head back against the worn headrest. "Just drive. Anywhere."
You drove out of the city, away from the flashing lights and the billboards with her face on them, pulling up to the hill that overlooked the skyline below.
You parked the car, leaving only the soft glow of the dashboard lights and music playing softly in the back.
The silence inside the car was thick, heavy with secret texts, midnight drives, and unsaid words that had been building between you.
Lara turned her head, her dark eyes tracing the sharp line of your jaw as you looked through your phone.
The faint light illuminated your features, making her pulse quicken.
“I think Daniela still thinks you would ruin my life," Lara said softly, breaking the quiet.
A teasing, tentative smile played on her lips.
You let the smoke drift out of your mouth, turning your head to look at her.
You propped your elbow on the steering wheel, your eyes dropping to her mouth before locking back onto her gaze.
"She's probably right. I spend my nights selling things I shouldn't to people like Jonah. You're a pop star on billboards. I'm definitely bad for your status, Raj."
Lara rolled her eyes and you smiled slightly.
“I’m trying to be realistic"
Lara didn’t respond.
“I’m not the kind of person people want you around"
“That’s not true"
“It is"
“No, it’s not"
You swallowed.
“You’re Lara Raj"
“And?”
“And people care about everything you do"
“So?”
“So I don’t want to be the reason something gets ruined"
Lara sat up and spoke again except her voice was softer.
“You think you’re protecting me"
“But you’re not"
Your eyebrows pulled together
“What?”
“You’re making the choice for me and I don't care about my status tonight or any time I'm with you" Lara whispered, her voice dropping to a low, quiet hum.
You rolled your eyes before pulling out a rolled blunt from the container stored in the glove box.
“Hotbox?” And Lara nodded, you got out your seat and moved the back where Lara followed.
You locked the car doors, and Lara slid closer, the space between you vanishing entirely.
You looked at her smiling, handing her the blunt.
"First hit for you"
"Thank you baby" she said teasingly.
You looked down at her lips, your usual ndifferent, unbothered facade finally cracking down the middle.
Your voice dropped slightly
“You know something would happen if someone sees you out here with me? If a picture gets out?"
“Then let them take it," Lara murmured, her breath hitching as she reached out, her fingers gently brushing against the your cheek.
"I'm tired of being perfect, Y/N. You're the only one who just sees me."
Your chest tightened.
You hadn't planned on getting attached to a global idol, but the sheer vulnerability in her dark eyes was undoing every boundary you had ever built over the last two months.
You let out a quiet curse under your breath.
"Fuck it," you muttered.
When your lips finally met, it wasn't soft or rehearsed.
It was urgent, fueled by the adrenaline, the taste of cheap weed, and the quiet tension that had been burning down that short fuse.
Your hand slid up the back of her neck, fingers tangling in her glossy hair, pulling her impossibly closer.
Lara let out a soft, breathy moan against your mouth, her hands gripping the lapels of your jacket as she crawled completely onto your lap, abandoning the pristine image the world demanded of her.
Your hands moved down to her waist, your fingers digging into her hips to pull her flush against you.
The suggestive friction made Lara gasp into the kiss, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs as the music faded into the background.
You pulled back just an inch, your thumb sweeping over her bottom lip, tracing the smudge of her lip gloss in the dim light.
"I'm still a bad influence" you whispered against her skin, a breathless smirk on your lips.
Lara leaned back in, her eyes heavy and dark with desire.
"The worst," she whispered back, before capturing your lips again, letting herself break every single rule.
To Bleed A Quiet Lake
Manon x Fem reader
Summary: Moving to a tiny suffocating town for the summer before your first year of college was supposed to be a boring transition. However, you fell into a friendship with the well known person around town and at your school. But as the lazy summer days stretched on, the boundaries between friendship and something much deeper began to blur together.
Warnings: Internalized homophobia, slight cheating, underage drinking, angst(??)
(Also I know nothing abt university of Oregon so it might be inaccurate but i did do some research kinda)
——————————————————-
The town wasn’t on most maps.
If you blinked while driving through it, you’d probably miss it.
And now, for the summer before college, it was home.
It was a few hours away from your college so your mother decided it would be for the best, especially because you would be able to see your father more now.
You hated it immediately.
One grocery store. One gas station. One diner where everyone somehow knew everyone else’s business.
“Give it a chance,” your dad said while unloading your boxes from the car.
Easy for him to say.
He had work.
You had three months and absolutely nothing to do.
The first week consisted of facetime calls with your friends from home, complaining to your mother, unpacking things into this small room and thinking of what to bring to college.
However, when the weekend came, you decided to get up and get out of this misery. There was so much more to do- it was new state to explore and new people you could befriend around here. If there was even any one your age around here.
You walked out the house, jeans on and a nice graphic shirt.
First you went to the coffee shop around the corner where you tried getting your regular but had to settle for something else.
You walked around taking it all in. This was your new life and you had to adapt.
It was only 3 months, then you would be off to college which was only an hour away from here and-
“Shit—”
You stumbled backward after colliding with someone coming around a corner.
Your coffee fell onto the floor
“Oh my god are you okay?” A hand shot out and grabbed her wrist before she could fall
“Careful”
You immediately looked up and it felt like you forgot how to speak.
The girl standing in front of you was unfairly pretty
As if she had just stepped out of a movie or something.
Dark hair, a beautiful face, a perfect smile and a soft voice.
Sunglasses pushed onto her head, she radiated of confidence that made everything around you go blurry that you just focused on her.
“Sorry,” she laughed but you didn’t say anything back.
Then she noticed you staring
“Oh uh-“ now she looked flustered
“sorry” she repeated
You immediately snapped out of it when you heard some people laugh.
There was a group of people that seemed around your age a few feet away from the both of you.
“I’m sorry- I wasn’t watching where I was going like zoning out I guess I didn’t mean to-“ you said quickly, wanting the sidewalk to swallow you whole.
“No you’re good don’t worry” the girl smiled at her.
“You’re new, right?”
“Is it that obvious?”
“Very and it’s a small town” she said laughing
“I’m Manon”
You nodded “Y/n”
“Well uh- these are my friends” Manon said pointing to the group behind her.
“Are they also from here?” You asked looking at them as they were now talking amongst each other or on their phones
“No” she said “My parents live here but they went away for the summer so I brought them back here to keep me company” she said as she shrugged
“Ohh okay cool” you said as she nodded.
That should’ve been the end of it, a brief awkward interaction. Nothing more
“Uh I should get going now- I bet your friends are waiting for you” you said.
“Actually I was wondering if you wanted to join us? I know how lonely it gets around here” she said smiling softly
“Oh umm if they don’t mind then sure I’d be down”
“Trust me, they wouldn’t mind because I don’t mind” she says as she leads you towards her friends.
“Alright guys this is Y/n- she’s new to this boring ass town so lets make this the best summer here, yea?” Manon said smiling and her friends all agreed talking amongst each other.
30 minutes later, you all ended up in the diner, and you were sitting right next to Manon.
The introductions came quickly.
Friends, Roommates, Sorority sisters.
People who had apparently known each other forever.
“So what brings you here?” One of her friends asked
“um well- I’m a few states away but because i’m starting college at University of Oregon, my mom said it would be best to stay with my dad here cause its closer”
One of the girls nearly dropped her fries
“No way”
“Yeah…?” I said confused as Manon laughed
“we go there too”
“We?”
The entire table collectively groaned
“Unfortunately,” Sophie said “We’re a package deal- and its a good Greek life school so we’ll definitely see you at our parties hopefully you’ll survive them”
Manon quickly rolled her eyes “Ignore her- but yea the school is alright, just party heavy and stuff”
You nod quickly “well at least I already made friends”
“Oh yea of course” Megan said as she scrolled on her phone.
You all continued talking until some guy walked into the diner, greeting the workers, and Manon’s friends before sliding into the space right next to her.
He draped his arm over her shoulder and kissed her temple.
“Hey baby, who’s this?” He said looking at me
“This is y/n! She just moved here so we were just yk being nice and stuff” she said before quickly looking at you “Y/n this is my boyfriend- David”
You nod “Hey” and he gives me a quick head nod before turning away to Manon’s friends and asking if their boyfriends would also join them this summer.
———————————-
A few hours had passed, and you had decided to get going from the wooded lake that you all went to go sit at after eating.
You checked your clock and it read 7:00pm
“I should probably get going, my dad should be coming home soon” you said getting up and everyone nodded saying goodbye.
Manon however also stood up “I’m gonna walk her to the street view” and she started walking before anyone could say anything, you followed behind.
“I hope you enjoyed today” she said
“Thanks I did, and thanks for including me”
“Of course” she smiled “but I was wondering if I could give you my number?”
“Oh yeah of course” you say checking your phone to see it at 2%.
“Fuck- my phone is about to die i’m sorry”
“Oh it’s okay! I mean I left my phone with David but I do have a pen” she said smiling softly at you before grabbing your hand where she wrote her number down
“Text me,yeah?”
You nod “yeah.. bye Manon”
“Bye Y/n” she said turning around and walking back into the wooded trail
I smiled and quickly walked home, a new friend. Someone who was actually cool here.
After you got home, you immediately texted Manon, letting her know it was you and that you made it home safely.
To your surprise, she had replied back quickly. Almost as if she was waiting for you
“No i’m just thinking things” you say to yourself as you lay down on the couch waiting for your father to come home.
——————————————
A few days had passed, and Manon was still texting you. Asking about your major, which dorm you would be moving in, if you were interested in joining Greek life and such. The texting lasted for hours everyday.
Except for tonight, she had called you.
“Hey y/n”
“Hi”
“I was wondering if you wanted to join us tomorrow we’re gonna go swim in the lake because the UV is going to be high”
You smiled “yeah of course i’d love to go!”
“Okay cool so we are gonna meet…”
The conversation continued until Manon said she had to go. The time read 1am.
The next day you had gone to the hangout and you all had fun.
Which is why one hangout became two. Then five and then more you to the point couldn’t keep count anymore.
Everyday would be a new hangout with Manon and her friends.
You all went swimming in the lakes, drove around with windows down and music blasting.
Got milkshakes at midnight
Went to bonfires and parties in surrounding towns.
Watched movies in Manon’s living room
Had lazy afternoons sprawled across docks and grass fields.
And through it all- you and manon kept ending up by each other every time like magnets.
Whether it was saving you a seat next to her, or triple texting you when you didn’t respond.
She called you almost everyday after a hangout, when her friends were all in the same house as her.
She still decided to head up to her room and call you.
Sometimes, when her friends and boyfriend were all asleep- she’d show up in front of your house randomly and wait for you.
“Come outside”
“What?”
“Come outside.”
“Why?”
“I’m bored and you’re the only one who can cure it”
You became a special part of Manon’s life.
You were just another friend to her, but to you she was your favorite friend out of everyone.
At first no one thought much of it because everyone loved Manon.
Manon was the perfect girl.
She was well known around town and at school.
She was the girl who got along with everyone and so her friends naturally thought it was just another one of those moments.
Except Sophia noticed because she noticed everything especially when it came to her best friends.
__________________________________
But the way you started to realize how you felt made things get complicated.
Especially when her hand brushed yours and neither of you moved away or how she smiled differently when she looked at you.
How your stomach did weird things whenever she laughed or complimented to you.
It became impossible to ignore especially when Manon started seeking you out more.
David also started noticing and to you he wasn’t a bad guy.
He was nice, funny, just as cool, normal.
And he clearly loved Manon a lot.
Which is what made the jealousy you felt feel ugly and sickening.
Because how could you dislike a guy who is just in love.
At first he made jokes, then comments, and then accusations disguised as jokes.
The first one was when Manon had said she was going out with her friends.
“Like the ones who are in the house right?”
Manon nods “yess babe, and Y/n”
“Y/n again?” He says smiling
“Duhhh thats like my best friend now” she says rolling her eyes playfully as he kissed her.
The second time was when Manon said she was headed to see you and keep you company since your dad was at work.
“Manon, do you spend time with anybody else or what?”
“Babe I promise I’ll only be there for a while, she doesn’t want to hangout in such a big group and I don’t want her to feel lonely”
However, the tension finally was unbearable during a lake trip in late July.
Everyone was swimming, jumping off docks, splashing each other.
Except you were sitting on shore when David sat beside you.
You were too busy zoning out to notice and David followed your gaze.
You were both looking at Manon now who was laughing at something Sophie said to her and Megan.
“You know” he said and you immediately jumped
“Huh?”
“Should I be jealous?” He said with a laugh
“What?”
“You two spend a lot of time together”
“We’re friends”
“Yeah I know but still I think it’s a little weird but I might just be overthinking things” He said
“Nothing is going on” you said and he nodded
“Okay” He got up and walked away to where Daniela and Lara’s boyfriends were.
You shook your head and got into the water
You swam towards where everyone else was.
“Hey y/n” Sophia said smiling
“Hey”
“What were you and David talking about?”
“Um just the summer and how I feel about this place”
Sophia nods “Yeah but if you ever wanted to talk like about anything, you can trust me”
“Oh okay thanks” You said without thinking much of what she meant
Before anything else could be said, Manon swam closer to the both of you, Sophie following behind. Her arm instantly draped over your shoulders.
You looked at her and smiled and she looked back at you as well smiling softly before splashing you with water.
You groaned before doing the same thing back to her, causing a water fight between everyone.
You couldn’t ignore what you felt now. Couldn’t pretend or lie to yourself.
And for the first time all summer, you felt afraid. And by the way Manon looked at you sometimes, maybe you weren’t alone.

Things got a bit more confusing for you after that day, not immediately but just enough. Not because you didn’t know how you felt but because you couldn’t figure out Manon.
One evening everyone was sitting on the dock watching the sunset
The lake reflected pink and orange.
Manon sat beside you and your shoulders touched but neither of you chose to move away.
The others were talking and laughing.
But you weren’t listening anymore.
Because Manon was absentmindedly tracing patterns into the wood beside your hand. Close enough to where your fingers brushed.
Once, twice or even three more times. She stopped moving her fingers which caused you to look up at her.
She was already looking at you.
“Has anyone told you your eyes are really pretty?” she said softly towards you, it almost coming out as a whisper.
You smile looking away, “a few times yeah… but thank you, your eyes are also really pretty ”
She smiled at you and immediately went back to tracing patterns in the wood.
You looked at her again and caught a small glimpse of pink coating her cheeks before looking back down to see she laid her pinky next to yours.
Neither acknowledged this and neither stopped it.
Another time was when a bonfire was happening.
Manon and you were walking a few steps behind everyone.
“Are you excited for college?” Manon asked
“A little but I think I’m a bit more nervous”
Manon smiled “You’ll be okay”
“How do you know?”
“Cause you’re cooler than you think” she says before playfully punching the side of your shoulder.
—————————
There were too many lingering looks, too much eye contact, too much awareness, too much everything.
And then, the first few days of August arrived.
The afternoon sun was trapped behind heavy storm clouds, turning the living room of Manon’s empty house into a hazy gray shadow.
The rest of the group had gone to a diner three towns over, leaving the two of you in a silence that felt dangerously thin.
You were sitting on her bedroom floor, sorting through old vinyl records, when Manon sat down right next to you. Close enough that her bare knee pressed against yours.
"I don't want summer to end," she murmured, her eyes fixed on the record sleeve in your hands.
"Me neither," you whispered.
When you looked up, she was already staring.
There was no David. No witty comments. Just the quiet sound of rain beginning to tap against her windowpane.
Manon started leaning in, her eyes lingering at your lips before they came back to your own eyes.
A soft sigh leaving your mouth as her lips pressed against yours with a delicate tumbling sweetness that tasted like the iced tea she’d been drinking all afternoon.
Suddenly the hesitation vanished, Manon wrapped her arms around your neck as she straddled your lap, your own arms going on her waist to steady her.
Her fingers quickly moved to your hair and tangled them deep into your hair. The kiss deepened into something that felt almost desperate. She pulled you against her and moaned softly against your lips which made your head spin.
It felt like she was trying to pour every unspoken word, every lingering look from the entire summer, into this one moment.
Her heart was beating fast and for a beautiful, terrifying second, she kissed you like she never wanted to let you go.
Then, she snapped.
As quickly as she had pulled you in, Manon shoved your shoulders back.
Her eyes were wide, panicked, looking at you like you were a ghost.
“You need to leave” she breathed, her voice shaking as she stood up, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.
“Manon-“
“No Y/n, just go. Please My friends are going to be back soon. This was- we can’t do this. Just leave” she quickly walked to the bathroom and shut the door leaving you on her bedroom floor.
You spent the rest of the night in your bedroom, staring at the ceiling, the taste of her lips still burning against yours. You felt humiliated.
Stupid.
You swore to yourself that you would never speak to her again.
A few days passed, when your phone buzzed on your nightstand.
Manon: Hey, about monday... I'm really sorry I freaked out. I was just stressed about packing and college stuff. There's a party tonight at the house in the next town over, everyone is going. You should come
You stared at the glowing screen for ten minutes. It hurt that she could brush off the most intense moment of your summer as just "stress."
But you were entirely under her spell. You couldn't say no.
You simply liked the message, typed a quick 'Okay', and threw your phone face-down on your bed.
An hour before the party, a familiar horn honked outside your house.
You quickly said bye to your father and walked out to find Sophia standing in the driveway, ready to open the passenger door for you.
The dashboard clock glowed a neon blue in the dark.
Rain smeared across the windshield as Sophia drove down the winding country road toward the “biggest” end-of-summer party.
"You've been quiet the past few days," Sophia said, keeping her eyes on the road. "You and Manon."
You kept your face turned toward the window, watching the trees blur past. "We're fine."
"Y/N," Sophia’s voice softened, losing its usual playful edge.
"I have eyes. I see the way she looks at you when David isn't looking. And I see how terrified she gets right after."
A tear slipped down your cheek. "We kissed, she told me to leave, Soph. She looked at me like I disgusted her."
Sophia let out a heavy sigh, her fingers tightening on the steering wheel.
"She's not disgusted by you. She's disgusted with herself because she’s a coward. Don't let her wreck you just because she's scared of who she is."
But the warning didn't prepare you for the party.
The basement was loud, sweaty, and suffocating.
When you walked in, Manon’s eyes locked onto yours from across the room. She was holding a red solo cup, her posture rigid.
When you tried to walk past her to get a drink, she stepped right into your path.
Her eyes were hard, a cruel mask replacing the girl you met two months ago.
"Didn't think you'd show up," Manon said loudly, loud enough for the people nearby to hear.
"Given how much you love staying home alone with your dad."
You flinched. "Manon, don't."
"What? I'm just saying. You've been acting so weird and clingy lately, Y/N. It's getting kind of annoying."
Before the sting of her words could even settle, David walked up behind her, throwing an arm around her waist.
"Hey, babe”
Manon didn't hesitate. She spun around in his arms, her hands grabbing his shirt, and pulled him into a fierce, breathless kiss.
It was aggressive. Performative.
She opened her eyes for a split second mid-kiss, locking her gaze right onto yours—a silent, desperate plea to herself to prove that she belonged to him.
You didn't wait for them to pull apart. You turned around
The sight of Manon’s hands buried in David's shirt, the exact same way they had been tangled in your hair just a few days ago, felt like a physical blow to your chest.
The sound of the music seemed to instantly mute, replaced by a loud, ringing rush in your ears.
You stumbled through the crowded basement, shoving past sweaty shoulders and laughing faces that blurred into a meaningless wall of color.
Someone spilled a drink near your sneakers, your eyes burning with hot, humiliating tears, and pushed your way through the crowd of laughing, oblivious bodies.
"Y/N? Wait!"
Sophia’s voice called out from somewhere near the couch, but you didn't turn back.
You burst through the back door and out into the night air, the August wind hit your face like ice water.
It was freezing compared to the house. Your hands were shaking so you could barely text Sophia.
“I’m outside. Please, can we leave?”
Your throat burning with the tears you were forcing yourself not to cry.
You didn't want anyone from the house to see you like this.
You didn't want Manon to have the satisfaction of knowing she had completely destroyed you.
The taste of her sweet tea was completely gone, replaced only by the bitter realization that she had used David to erase you.
And the worst part was, it had worked.
Two minutes later, headlights cut through the dark, Sophia’s car pulled up to where you were standing.
She didn't ask any questions. She didn't say 'I told you so.' She just pushed the passenger door open from the inside.
You climbed in, pulling the door shut with a heavy click that felt like the end to the perfect summer.
When Sophia dropped you off, she hugged you before you thanked her.

With that, the very next morning you packed your bags.
You told your dad you’d be back but youmissed your old life. So you stuffed the trunk of your car and drove back back to your hometown for the remaining two weeks of august before school began.
You needed to surround yourself with people who knew the old you- the version of you before Manon had completely rewired your brain.
You spent those last days of summer with your friends and desperately trying to wash the small town and the lake out of your skin.
Naturally, the group you spent the whole summer with noticed you were gone.
Megan: wait y/n where did you go?? We’re at the dock and you haven’t showed up
Daniela: yeah your dad said you went back home when me and Lara went to go get you
You quickly typed up a lie about needing to pack more things and see old friends before the start of the school year.
Sophia, who knew the real reason, just texted you privately but Manon never texted, not once.
According to what Sophia when the group asked about you Manon just shrugged and continue to scroll through her phone and said
“People always go back to what’s familiar”
She said it as if you were just a summer passing phase for all of them.
Except you knew you were more than that to her.
_____________________
When September came, university life swallowed you whole.
You purposely chose a different dorm on the opposite side of campus from the Greek houses, you stayed off the radar.
You buried yourself in early morning lectures, library sessions, coffee runs with your new friends.
Whenever you saw a girl in a sweatshirt that read Manon’s sorority letters on it, your stomach felt heavy and you always looked away.
You were trying your best to move on except Sophia refused to let you leave as if the past 3 months meant nothing to anyone.
Sophia invited you to hangout at her favorite coffee shop.
“She might look fine to everyone else and perfect on instagram but she looks so much more different in person Y/n. I swear- since you left those last weeks in august she’s been like I don’t know sad?”
You just stared at the coffee cup in front of you, refusing to let yourself hope.
“Well that’s not my issue anymore Sophia”
“No yea of course I was just saying-“
After this, Sophia continued to keep in touch, dragging you out for matcha between classes, filling you in on campus gossip. She was the one who told you that David was visiting less on the weekends.
Then a few months passed and your first Halloweekend came up.
You were unsure if you were going to go, the risk of running into Manon or her sorority friends you met would be haunt you.
Excellent, Sophia had other ideas.
She had practically broken into your dorm room, throwing a costume onto your bed and refusing to take no for an answer.
“You've been a ghost for two months, to everyone” she demanded. "We are going to this frat party, and you are going to look hot”
Which is how you found yourself standing in the front of a frat house.
“Remember if you want to leave- just text me. Our friends from the summer will be In here and you might see Manon but this is growth y/n” Sophia said as you nodded
“Just have fun” she said as you both entered.
Inside was a chaotic blur of cheap led lights, fake cobwebs, and thumping bass.
Sophia walked in confidently and found some of her friends in the kitchen, which is where you decided to stay.
Close to Sophia but not so close that it seems like you were a lost puppy.
Except for some reason, the crowded room suddenly made space for someone, which is where your eyes quickly drifted to.
Your eyes widened, Manon.
The smile she’s had all semester completely dropped the moment her eyes locked not you.
Your heart dropped and the familiar sickening panic of what you felt a few months ago rushed back, suffocating you.
You couldn’t do this. You couldn’t let her look at you with those pretty eyes.
Panicking, you turned your back to her and walked to the living room and grabbed the nearest person you could find—some random guy in a basketball jersey who was leaning against the wall.
He looked at you confused and you immediately apologized saying you just needed him for a few minutes, he shrugged before saying “okay”
You made some small talk but out of the corner of your eye, you saw her moving.
She wasn't staying back this time.
“Okay uh sorry, this isn’t working” you muttered to the guy, not even waiting for his response as you bolted out of the living room
You pushed into the crowd, trying to lose her in the sea of sweaty, costumed bodies.
You walked toward the stairs, your vision blurring with a mix of adrenaline and tears.
You just needed to find a bathroom, lock the door, and breathe.
But she was faster.
As you hurried down the dimly lit hallway, a hand clamped firmly around your wrist.
The grip was tight, desperate, and trembling.
Before you could yell, you were pulled sharply backward into an empty laundry room.
The heavy door clicked shut behind you, instantly muffling the thumping bass. Manon turned on the lights.
"Let go of me," you said, taking your wrist out of her grip and backing up until your back hit the edge of the washing machine.
"Go away Manon, go back to David."
"I broke up with him," Manon choked out.
The words hung in the air like a dead weight. You froze, staring at her.
She looked small. A tear tracked through her glittery Halloween makeup, and her breathing was ragged.
"I broke up with him three weeks ago,” she whispered, her voice cracking as she took a step toward you.
“Because I knew you were here and Halloween was coming. I knew you'd be here. I practically begged Sophia to bring you, Y/N. She didn't even want to tell me if you were coming because she hates me for what I did to you."
"Good," the bitter anger of the last two months finally coming over you.
Your eyes stung with hot, furious tears.
“She should hate you. I hate you. You humiliated me, Manon. You kissed him right in front of me just to prove a point to yourself, and then you let me leave. You didn't care."
"I did care!" Manon cried, her hands flying to her head, gripping her hair in absolute frustration.
“I was dying! Do you have any idea what it’s like? To live in this town where you’re well known? Where everyone knows everything.I spent the last two months trying to be perfect- the girl who loves her boyfriend. And every single night I stayed up because I was sick to my stomach when I laid next to him. The only thing I could taste was your lips. All i could think about was yours eyes.”
She took another step, cornering you against the machine. The desperation radiating off her.
"I was a coward," she whispered, as she looked down at your lips, then back up to your eyes.
“I was so mean to you because I was terrified of how much I wanted a girl. I thought if I pushed you hard enough, the feeling would go away. But it didn't. It just rotted inside of me.”
“You ruined my summer, Manon” you said, hot tears finally spilling over. “You took everything we had at the lake and just bled it dry”
“Y/n baby please no, please don’t cry” she said frantically trying to wipe your tears but you moved your face away.
“I’d rather let myself bleed then continue to pretend it was all nothing. I'd rather ruin my entire life than watch you move on."
"Manon, stop—“
"I love you," she whispered. "I love you, and it’s killing me, Y/N. Please."
The sheer, agonizing weight of her words broke your ego, broke the ideas of what you thought you would do and say in this situation.
You reached up, grabbed the front of her costume, and pulled her down into a fierce, frustrated kiss.
It wasn't gentle like the bedroom, and it wasn't fake like the party.
Your lips crashed together with intensity, a desperate release of all the tears, the running, and the two months of silence.
Manon let out a soft gasp against your mouth, her arms immediately wrapping around your waist, pulling you so close it hurt.
She kissed you back with everything she had left, her tears mixing with yours as she finally stopped running.
When she finally pulled back it was only a bit, neither of you let go of each other.
Her forehead rested against yours, both of your chests rising and falling rapidly, as you tried to catch your breath in the quiet room.
"I'm sorry," Manon whispered, her voice trembling as she kept her eyes closed, her hands still clutching the fabric of your costum like you might vanish if she let go.
"I'm so sorry I made you feel like you were something to be hidden. I was just... I was so disgusted with myself."
You looked at her, the sharp edges of your anger finally melting away, replaced by the heavy, familiar warmth you’d missed all autumn.
You reached up, your thumb gently wiping away a stray streak of glitter and tears from her cheek.
"You really broke up with him?" you asked quietly, needing to hear it one more time. To know it wasn't another dream.
Manon opened her eyes, looking at you with a certainty you hadn't seen in her all summer.
"I told him it was over days ago. I told him I couldn't pretend anymore. I don't care what anyone says, Y/N. I don't care about being the perfect girl anymore. I just want to be your girl. If you'll still let me."
A small, breathless laugh escaped your lips, the weight of the last two months lifting off your chest all at once.
"You're an idiot, Manon," you murmured, pulling her back in by the waist.
"I know," she whispered against your lips, a genuine, soft smile finally breaking through her tears.
“But I'm your idiot now."

You rolled your eyes “Yea okay.. thanks for the donation by the way- wait…”

“Why does he kinda walk like my anatomy professor?” You immediately started laughing
“No because tell me he doesn’t”
The monster suddenly sprinted.
You screamed and your game character died
“Try Again” was on your screen while you kept your horrified face “Fuck bro oh my gosh….”

Life was normal and if someone had told you three years ago that a globally known girl group would eventually know who you were, you would’ve laughed in their face.
Not because you disliked celebrities.
Not because you thought it was impossible.
But because there was nothing particularly special about you
However, three thousand miles away in Los Angeles where life was significantly less normal for 6 girls.
The members of Katseye were chronically online and had good humor which is what there fans loved about them other than their talent, and personalities.
Yoonchae was scrolling on TikTok and started laughing and immediately sat up on the couch, where her members were sitting around her.
“Guys” nobody looked up
“Guys” still nothing
“GUYS” and all their heads popped up and Yoonchae shoved her phone forward “watch”
The clip started, the anatomy professor joke was said and then your scream and your horrified face staying for a few seconds. Then your immediate regret
“Fuck bro oh my gosh… I’m dropping out”
And then the video restarted, Yoonchae paused it and continued laughing along with Lara and Manon. Daniela, and Sophia side eyed each other but still somewhat smiling
“What the hell Yoonchae”
Yoonchae shrugged and opened the fan account where she was watching another clip, then another, and another.
————————————————-
Eventually the entire group found you funny and of course they did some stalking.
The name of your account sat on top of Yoonchae’s phone as it was projecting onto the tv screen from screen mirroring so they could all see.
@huhy/n
Then Megan entered the place fresh from a solo dance practice she did. Sweaty, tired, and annoyed with the heat.
“What are you guys doing?”
Lara pointed on the tv where the profile was being displayed “Come here and look”
Megan groaned and flopped on the couch next to Daniela. Yoonchae quickly went to the fan account where she first found the clip of yours.
Megan immediately regretted listening because a few minutes later she found her stomach hurting from laughing at clips of some random college student.
One clip showed Y/n trying to explain a chemistry concept.
“Okay guys I know you don’t really see me study on here but my professors have said the best way to remember and learn is teaching it someone else so just bare with me”
A few minutes had passed “Okay like I understand it but I just can’t explain it you know? I mean I don’t even think the professor understands it either- I mean when in life will I need to calculate gas in something I’m never gonna touch like bro”
The clip ended and then they went back to your instagram profile.
“She’s really pretty”
Megan said it so casually that nobody reacted at first.
Then Lara slowly looked over.
Megan blinked.
“What?”
Lara immediately started smiling.
“Oh nothing.”
“No, because why did you look at me like that?”
“I’m just saying,” Lara pointed at the TV, “I think you and Y/n would be really good friends.”
“Based on what?”
“You both spend half your lives online”
“I do not”
The room erupted in complaints
“You literally send TikToks at three in the morning & fall asleep with them playing in the background”
“That was ONE time”
“It was yesterday”
Megan rolled her eyes while everyone laughed
“Whatever”
Still, before she got up, she glanced at the Instagram profile one more time
__________________________
For the next few weeks, Y/N occasionally appeared in the group chat
Usually because Yoonchae found another clip she found funny
Whether it be a random morning, after practice, or in the middle of the night.
Sophia and Daniela both threatened to mute the group chat but nobody had actually done it
Sometimes Megan watched them. Sometimes she didn’t. Mostly she forgot about them
Until one night Megan was scrolling half asleep completely exhausted from practice
However, a familiar clip appeared on her feed and she recognized the voice
It was Y/N, again and so Megan clicked on the fan account
Then your TikTok with your stream clips
Then she pressed the link in your TikTok bio leading to your instagram account
She looked through your profile and then your highlights which contained you, your friends, soccer, and of course some new livestream clips
Which is where she stumbled upon the clips from your three hour stream of the game she was debating on buying
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
She immediately followed the YouTube link and there you were sitting on your chair wearing a ridiculous shirt that had lego batman on it
“Guys, I've been playing this for two hours straight before I turned on this live,” Y/n muttered into her mic
“Two hours. Google said the main story takes fourteen hours to beat. I have been stuck on Chapter 3 for 2 of those hours because the Arkham combat combos require me to have actual, functional hand-eye coordination, which I seem to fucking lack"
The chat on the side of the screen was rolling
“LMAOOO”
“SKILL ISSUE”
“Bro is losing to legos”
"No, don't 'skill issue' me!" Y/n defended herself, pointing dramatically at the camera.
"Have you tried driving the Tumbler Batmobile with a controller that has stick drift? I’m literally being judged by Robin and I get he’s pixilated but-“
Y/n’s voice fades into the background as Megan scoffed softly, a sleepy smile tugging at her lips as she watched your character accidentally eject from the Batmobile straight into a brick wall, instantly shattering into a shower of tiny LEGO pieces.
Before she could overthink it, Megan clicked out of the app, pulled up your instagram profile, and tapped the 'Follow' button then fell asleep as another video from TikTok played in the background.
Which would’ve been fine except you noticed the next day when you were live streaming

You were supposed to be studying, instead you were procrastinating, talking to your chat and looking at your phone.
Then your eyes landed on a notification causing you to pause “Huh”
The chat on the side immediately wanted to know why you were confused
“WHAT??”
“Pls tell me its not about how your progress didn’t save for that batman game..”
You squinted at your phone dropping it and immediately went to your computer. Where you allowed for the stream to see your screen.
“Guys” you said dramatically as you were typing instagram on your search bar
“I don’t know who this is” you say opening your notifications
“BUT LOOK AT THIS BADDIE WHO FOLLOWED ME” you say opening the profile
You turned to look at the chat but it was moving so fast it became unreadable
“OMG MEGANNNNN”
“NO WAY”
“HELPP KATSEYE”
“No way Y/n x Katseye is a thing”
You blinked “..what? I can’t really read what you guys are saying”
Then more spam and messages happened that became unreadable again so you started looking through her posts.
“Guys, respectfully she’s attractive like soooo gorgeous”
More messages came in “But like who is she? She has a lot of follower so she’s clearly successful”
The reaction was immediate, donations made so you could hear what was said.
“YOU DON’T KNOW KATSEYE????”
“REACT TO THEM PLEASE”
“SHES MEGAN FROM KATSEYE”
You laughed sheepishly
“Guys I mean I know her name is Megan- it says it right there but Katseye? Oh yea its in her bio okay but like wait-“
You say clicking on the account that was tagged “huh”
“MY TWO WORLDS COLLIDING”
“PLEASE Y/N REACT PLEASE”
The chat was relentless and eventually you gave in “Fine! FINE let me see who these people are”
Big mistake, an hour later you had watched a music video, then another, then a guide video on “Get To Know KATSEYE” that was sent into your community discord you had with your followers. Then you watched another and then another.
“Okay” You pointed at the screen “I seem to get the hype now, they all seem so cool and fun to hang with! Well anyway guys…”

You ended stream a few minutes after, thinking nothing of it. But of course the internet had other plans
Within hours, tiktoks were up with your reactions to videos, you vibing to their music, and somehow edits were made where one video read:
“When your favorite streamer discovers your favorite group”
Another:
“Y/N calling Megan a baddie and fangirling over Katseye was NOT on my bingo card”
While this was all happening, you had no idea because you were busy writing an essay.
Meanwhile inside the KATSEYE group chat, Lara sent a TikTok and then another showing the reactions of their fans, and the reaction you had.
And unfortunately for someone in Los Angeles they were about to watch every single second of the clips calling her attractive.
Spells go wrong, feelings don’t
Witch college au / fluff / Sophia x fem reader
Cursing & slight mention of Manon’s relationship, i think thats rlly it
Summary: Sophia has a crush and tries her best to make it a mutual feeling. However, nothing is working the way it’s supposed to
—————————————————————————————
“Sophia are you sure this is gonna work?”
"Of course I'm sure Megan it has to work!"
"I don't know Sophia you literally put a love potion in a cupcake…” Megan says still trying to wrap her head around the whole situation.
“Well Manon used it on her boyfriend and it worked so-“
“Or maybe its because me and him talked for a few months, went on dates, and got together like normal people? I only used it for a experiment in class after we got together” manon says as she walks in with Daniela and Yoonchae who is a few steps behind the both of them.
Sophia rolls her eyes as Megan and Daniela both laugh as they look at the tray that contained one singular cupcake.
“Woah cupcake” Yoonchae says going to grab it.
“NO” they all yell at once.
Yoonchae immediately pulls her hand back. “My bad- is there some type of event going on or are we being overprotective of food again because I swear if we are im actually done with you guys-“
“Nah it’s just Sophia put a love potion in it and I don’t think you wanna be in love with her.” Megan says laughing.
Yoonchae side-eyes Sophia. “Is it for y/n?”
They all nod.
“Whats for y/n?” Lara says as she walks in, with speak of the devil, y/n right behind her.
Everyone freezes
“Uhhh-“
“Sophia made her a cupcake!” Daniela quickly blurts out, nudging Sophia forward.
Lara smiles slightly. Y/n is Lara’s best friend and ever since she introduced her to the group, Sophia has had the fattest crush on her that everyone knows about.
“Oh sick” y/n says as she walks over and grabs it.
The room goes dead silent & the girls stare at her waiting for something to happen. Lara looks over at the counter snd sees the spell book.
Lara rolls her eyes and palms her forehead as Y/n goes to take a bite.
Everyone ducks down so that the first person she sees is Sophia.
“Wow this is really good Sophia!” Y/n says smiling.
Sophia nods fast “um yeah i hope you like it?”
“Yea i do it tastes really good.” She says as she finishes eating it.
The girls stand up looking confused.
“Do you feel normal y/n?” Megan asks slowly.
“Yeah… why?
“Nothing “ Lara says quickly trying to cover up for sophia. “Come on y/n we have tutoring to get to”
Y/n nods “Thanks again Sophia, it was so good!” She hugs her quickly before leaving.
The minute y/n is out the door, Lara quickly turns to her friends.
“Really sophia?” She says pointing to the spell book
“I thought it was gonna work..” Sophia says shrugging
“Maybe you should talk to her instead like a normal person sophia” Lara says, laughing as she walks out.
Everyone just stands there
“Maybe you made it wrong” Manon says
“Maybe” Sophia says quietly.
—————————————————————————————
The second time Sophia decided to try something new.
A love spray perfume that 100% worked and this time she knew it would.
I mean her friends have used it before for pranks and such so she was sure of it working. She planned this accordingly so this time no mistakes happened.
They were all in Lara’s dorm and Sophia made them all use an antidote to make sure the perfume wouldn’t work on them.
Lara again was more on the side of Sophia just talking to y/n and confessing because she knew y/n liked her back.
Except Lara didn’t tell her that part because she believed it should be natural between them.
“When is she coming” Yoonchae groaned
“She should be here soon with Megan” Lara says
“Wait Megan took the antidote right?” Daniela says quickly sitting up “you know she’s a bit forgetful sometimes”
“I’m sure she did! She had to and if she didn’t I made sure to bring backup because you know just incase!” Sophia says calmly but she was truly panicking on the inside, hoping that Megan didn’t forget.
There was a knock on the door and Lara quickly got up to open the door.
“Whats up guys!” Y/n says as she walking in with Megan.
Sophia immediately sprays the perfume on herself.
All the girls look at each other excitedly to see if it had any effect.
But then Megan launches herself to Sophia.
“Sophia you smell soooo good. I love your hair and you look so good today” she says smiling and hugging her.
“Megan- what the heck, get off me”
Y/n stands there looking between them and then looked at the rest of the girls confused.
“Is Megan okay…?”
“Yeah- I guess she’s just excited to see Sophia” Manon says laughing.
Y/n shrugs and sits next to Lara sniffling.
“Wait y/n are you sick?” Lara says
“Oh yeah I can’t fucking breathe like at all. I swear this sickness is trying to take me out.” Y/n says
Sophia groans at her words.
“Fuck” she mutters as she’s still trying to fight off Megan who is completely sitting on top of her.
“Yo someone give me that green drink right there.” Sophia says and y/n hands it to her.
“What is it?”
“It’s just some type of tiny drink that Megan likes” Sophia says making the lie up on the spot about the antidote
Megan drinks it and immediately lets go
“Ew what the fuck” Megan says and everyone laughs
Except Sophia because she’s already thinking of another plan.
—————————————————————————————
A few days had passed and Sophia finally had another idea.
“Oh my gosh Sophia just talk to her” Manon groaned and everyone else agreed.
“no this time it will work we just gotta trust the process.” Sophia says but she had her doubts.
“Girl you said the same thing when you put poison in a cupcake.” Megan says from the bed.
“It’s not poison if-“
“You put a LOVE POTION in a cupake.” Yoonchae cuts her off.
“That’s not the point!” Sophia snaps before sighing. “This one is different.”
Lara looks at her “Different how?”
Sophia shrugs, “My mom said it works! Its a letter that has a spell on it that they read without them knowing”
“So get to writing” Daniela says before scrolling back on her phone.
They left Sophia alone so she could write her letter.
Sophia was supposed to keep it simple & short.
Except it stopped sounding like a spell and started sounding like her.
Once she was done she made Lara text Y/n to come to Sophia’s dorm to “hangout”
20 minutes had passed and everyone was anxious. Eventually there was a knock at the door and Daniela went up to it.
“She’s here” Daniela whispers, peeking through the door’s peephole.
“Positions, positions!” Megan whisper-yells as they all run off and hide in the most obvious spots ever.
Sophia stands there awkwardly, letter in hand and opens the door.
“Hey Sophia! why is it so quiet in here?” y/n says, walking in
“No reason! Everyone is just running a little late I guess” Sophia says a bit too fast
y/n’s eyebrows narrow slightly but she closes the door behind her and sits. Sophia sits down next to her “What’s that?”
Sophia hesitates for a second before handing it to her. “Just read it”
“It’s not like bad news right..?” Y/n says laughing awkwardly
Sophia shakes her head “i hope not.” She says quietly.
Y/n starts reading it.
The room is dead silent and Sophia feels like she might actually pass out any second now.
Y/n finishes and looks up at her.
“Is this another one of your things?”
Sophia’s stomach drops.
“What?”
Y/n tilts her head. “You know? Like the cupcake, The perfume, and this, is it part of it?”
From behind the couch:
“OH SHE KNOWS—”
“SHUT UP”
Sophia glares toward the noise before looking back at y/n who was rolling her eyes at the words of Manon and Daniela.
“It was supposed to work.”
There’s a pause between the two girls
“Good thing it didn’t.” y/n says
Sophia’s face falls a little “Oh.”
“Because I have liked you for a while now before you did any of this”
Silence fell upon the entire room again
Sophia just stares at her “Wait what?”
y/n shrugs, a small smile on her face. “You’re really bad at being “subtle” you know that?”
“I thought I was being subtle.” Sophia says crossing her arms
“Yea because I totally didn’t see the potion book the first time and you definitely didn’t try to make me fall in love with you in three different ways”
“Okay when you say it like that…”
“It’s cute though.” y/n cuts her off.
Sophia blinks. “It is?”
“Yeah.” she says softly. “But you could’ve just talked to me, you know”
From behind the closet door:
“I LITERALLY SAID THAT—” Lara yells as everyone comes out of their hiding spots.
“SO I GOT LOVE DRUGGED FOR NOTHING??” Megan shouts.
“I COULD’VE ATE THAT CUPCAKE??” Yoonchae added
“This is so cute I’m sick.” Daniela says as Manon hands over $10 for their secret bet they made on if y/n knew about the entire thing or was just really oblivious.
Sophia groans, covering her face. “Oh my god.”
y/n laughs before gently pulling her hands down. “So… next time?”
Sophia raises an eyebrow. “Next time what?
“Try talking to me first, yeah? No spell required”
