Dorian smiled easily back at Emma as she tried to logic his sweet tooth out for him. “I’ve never looked at it that way, but that’s what I’ll be telling everyone else from now on, thanks.”
Dorian perks up slightly at her mention of the brother that teaches at Hogwarts. “Huh, Charlie? What’s his la-” Vogel. Professor Vogel’s first name was Charlie. It had been years but there was still a residual ‘thump’ of his chest at the thought of his teenage affections.
“Oh, Merlin’s beard, you’re Professor Vogel’s sister?” Dorian lets out an unexpected laugh. This situation was just getting more and more ridiculous as time went on. “I’ll say it again- what a small world. He was one of my favorite professors while I was at school. Well,” he crinkled up his nose. “I still hated History of Magic, but he was cool.”
“That’s awesome, I didn’t know that,” Dorian commented, nodding. “I guess that makes sense.” He thought maybe he seemed ignorant, considering he just let her indirectly know that he didn’t even know a single muggle that hung out at Hogsmeade. “I should get out more, huh.”
At that moment the shop attendant came back out to the counter, carrying a gigantic bag filled to the brim with the same elongated box. “Oh, that’s me.” Dorian stammered, still high-key embarrassed that someone was watching him get this much sweets, and stepped toward the counter to pay for his loot.
He lifted the bag off of the counter as she continued to speak. He glanced behind him toward the entrance of the store at her words and grimaced. “Oh, the Shrieking Shack. Yeah. Good choice. I don’t think it’s actually haunted, but I feel like it’s structurally unsound, you know? It always bothered me when students decided to poke around there.”
Reaching into his bag, he pulled out two boxes of sugar quills and offered her one. “I know you just said you’re not one for sweets, but want one? They’re my ultimate vice.”
Who knew she would keep enjoying these interesting reactions from him but apparently even the most ordinary facts she'd share with anyone got a funny response.
He not only knew Charlie but said he was one of his favorites professors? Not that Emma didn't understand Charlie's charisma and skills to be some of the students favorite. He was usually everyone's favorite no matter what situation so it was fitting to hear Dorian remembered him this easily.
"So Charlie wasn't overselling how his students do enjoyed having him as a teacher huh, if you say you hated the object and he was still one of your favorites," her smile too smug to appear innocent, "That's good to hear, but as his sister my view of Charlie must be very different from you students."
"Oh what is your last name? Since we're closer than we imagined, maybe I even know someone from your family as well." she asked accepting the candy because why not huh.
"And as far as vices go, this one is pretty tasty. Although as a doctor I feel like it's my obligation to warn that sugar addiction can be very difficult to overcome if wanted or necessary. So uh," she stopped looking at his bag momentarily and resisting the urge to laugh with the irony of what she was about to advise, "Moderation is always good...?"
