We Shall Meet In Heaven (Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad)
Lancelot and Galahad finished their sparring session next to the lake. It was dawn, and the water reflected the light beautifully.
“Father, The Lord has blessed us today.”
Galahad looked at his father. Lancelot looked…cold. Distant. Before Galahad could make any assumptions…Lancelot asked a question to him first.
“Why do you want me to train you? You defeated me. You are better than me in every way Galahad! Why waste your precious time like this?”
Galahad lowered his head, he began to tear up slowly.
“Because it is the only moment during the day that we are alone, the only moment where I can call you “father”…openly.”
Lancelot looked at Galahad. He was tearing down, by something so…simple. Yet…Lancelot could not help but to feel sorry for him. He does not owe Galahad any kind of fatherhood, so he does the bare minimum. But hearing his son cry, made him tear up too.
Galahad is usually emotionless, he only shows his emotions freely when he is alone in nature, but secretly the boy was desperate for affection. Fatherly affection. Lancelot also knew deep down that Galahad did not ask to be born. He was part of the prophecy…
“Galahad…if that is how you feel…what you truly want…just ask me to go on a walk alone with you. Training is not necessary if you want to spend time with me.”
Galahad looked up to Lancelot. Their eyes met. The exact same lake-blue eyes.
“You…really mean it? I do not wish to waste your time-“
Lancelot interrupted him.
“You are not. I swear by my honor as a knight…and…I ask you to forgive me.”
“I have been a horrible father to you, and I will try to make up for it but-“
“I know. It is not your fault.”
Galahad gently grabbed Lancelot’s hand.
“We can be more open with each other when we are in heaven!…but…I want to let you know that I love you, father…even if it is hard for me to express it.”
“I love you too, son. When we meet in heaven, I shall give you all the love I could not give you here.”
Both father and son looked at the horizon with a smile. They have no clue that they will be separated in the afterlife for many years to come. The present is sacred, both of them know that. Now, they are spending every second to enjoy this blessed dawn.
Tada!! I wrote this short story of Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad. I commissioned @nina245 for the illustration. I am really happy how it turned out, and how Lancelot and Galahad’s relationship could have been.
