What is specially important about this design is that its features are focused on patients safety. This design is user friendly. all the buttons have a picture of the function so its easy to utilize.
Amongst the many features designed to facilitate patient transportation as well as patient’s repositioning. It has a bed exit alarm for those who are trying to get out of bed and are a high fall risk. one feature thats rarely used is the chair feature. Most patients will eat in bed and though we have a bed side table that can be position over the bed for ease, this feature allows the patients to assume a sitting position which is more natural when we eat. The wheels lock for safety and the bed has four rails up. we usually will use three rails up if we are afraid our patients will jump out of bed but having the four rails up is considered a restraint. If i had to choose my favorite feature it will be the bed alarm that connects to your phone.
1- A confused patient trying to get out of bed, the alarm going off and a bunch of nurses rushing to the room to prevent this patient from getting injured.
2- A patient being transported in the bed to another area in the hospital to undergo a procedure or a test.
3- Two nurses using the Trendelenburg position setting to bust a patient that is obese.
4- A patient sitting up in bed, with the bed set to the chair setting, eating breakfast.
5- An RN using the weight feature in the morning without waking up the patient to document the patient’s daily weight.
6- A patient using the raise/ lower the head/ foot of the bed for their own comfort.
Since the design I picked out is a bed its difficult to thing of other objects to represent why this bed has a good design. a phone can be given to the audience where one of them is connected to the bed exit alarm, their phone will ring an they will be able to see the patients room in the screen, I feel like this will give the audience a sense of how important this feature is.
In the Eagle article its mentioned how nurses are not always taken into account when health care design decisions are being made. I think we all understand the importance of having the influence of nurses’ perspectives when designing products or infrastructure that directly affect how we provide care for our patients.
