Miles Cleveland Goodwin.
If my prayers
Went nowhere
How would you know?
Of my primal feelings
If this drink
Wasn’t a toast for you
How would you know
Of my true emotions?
Like a pearl
In the darkness
You stand out
In the cloudy darkness of my head
I wish to be alcohol
So to entice you
Into being interested
In my sole being
I wish to be alcohol
So I could
Evaporate inside you
And to feel wanted one last time
If you were to
Find me
Embracing your memory
For the last time
Please don’t wish me away
Just leave me be
Embracing what once was
Even if it’s my mind
I’m like a tear
Trickling down your heart
Trying to feel what love is
One last time
I wish to be alcohol
So to entice you
Into being interested
In my sole being
I wish to be alcohol
So I could
Evaporate inside you
And to feel wanted one last time
The sense of being lost
Is strong here
In this immense sea
Of earthly frustrations
How I long to be
Embraced by
The Stellar Cloak
Of the astral plane
A journey
Into the cosmic mantle
A journey to
The fields of infinite stars
Forget the problems
Time consuming tribulations
Worley possessions
And physical heartbreak
Leave it all behind
For your astral destiny
Leave it all behind
For your final embrace
Taken into your own hands
The ultimate response
To life’s more pressing concerns
To life’s biggest downfalls
Who should you take
To the final answer?
Who should you take
To the meaning of life?
If only a fragment
Of what I conceived as happiness
I could take
To the rest of eternity
If only
I could escort you
To our infinite dream
And to our endless plane
Only then
Could I feel the warmth
Only then
Could I feel happiness
Only when
I’m embraced
Only when
I’ve left this reality
Only when
I’m exploring other reaches
Only when
I embrace the coldness of infinite space
Then I will see
The truth of our love
Then I would see
My actual worth
Take me into eternity
Take my soul to the cosmos
I’m tired of my earthly binds
Release my mortal coil
Watch me soar
Deep into the cosmic colors of God
Watch me soar
Into spiritual release
I lie awake
I hear them coming
The scuffling sound of tiny claws underneath the floorboards and inside the walls
They’ve let me live above ground
Longer than I should have
They are here to claim me
They think I can restore them
I cannot
The surface world has long been devoid of magic
Long has it been eradicated
Long have the shamans and priests been destroyed
Magic is but a myth now
This world is run by science
It drives the surface world forward
It has taken mankind out of this world
Science is all they have left
It is unknown to my kind
Inoperable deep under these cities
It’s of no use to the troubles that plague us
It will be of no use to us in what’s to come
The Great Collapse
It will not save us
I can feel them under my feet and in the walls
My room grows silent
I can hear them speaking behind the door
Chattering and whispering
In tongues that haven’t uttered a sigh
In the surface world for millennia
My light goes out
As my bedroom door opens
There they are
Legions waiting for me
Looking at my mortal guise
The fleshy shell I’ve been living in
Ever since I was brought to this world as an infant faie
But they know
They’ve always knows
Longing for my return
And for my knowledge
They long for salvation
They part
He’s here too
The hunched figure
The glowing eyes
He lumbers towards me
Stares past my mortal shell
Looks deep inside me
He knows the truth
I stare at his eyes
He is displeased
They swarm me
I am enveloped in darkness
They are taking me back home
Scutter. Creak.
L.F. Loza
Scutter.
Troops of mice scutter through the walls,
Mazes spread out through the partitions of this vast structure,
The hot and humid weather driving them into the walls,
Nests located under the floorboards,
Taking the crumbs and leftovers of all the humans coming in and out.
Scutter.
Cockroaches scatter throughout the building,
Kitchens and dining rooms,
Bed chambers and bathrooms,
Legions amass unknowingly under the guests feet,
Disgust, fear, and hostility accompany their existence.
Scutter.
Arachnids and arthropods invade the guests tranquility,
Bringing with them intense fear and panic,
Scorpions with pincers en guarde and stingers poised,
Infinite breeds of spiders building webs,
All of them sharing this structure with other species of different sizes.
Creak.
The nests of mice, the legions of cockroaches,
The armored scorpions and the bustling spiders,
Ignoring and avoiding the steps of humankind,
Their existence a mere happenstance of their short and collective lives,
Oblivious they are to the troubles and concerns of the humans in this building.
Creak.
Pounding on a wooden door shakes it in its frame,
Surrounding mice flee at the sound,
Cockroaches shrink away to the shadows,
Scorpions scutter away while spiders watch from the perch of their webs,
The pounding to the entrance of this specific room.
Creak.
Little do these critters know of the urgency,
Oblivious they are to the horrific deeds committed miles away,
The bloodshed and betrayal that led a troubled soul to a foreign country,
Running from the merciless authoritarian vice-grip,
A tragic crime that ends in another loss of life.
Creak.
Oblivious is the mice to the police pounding on the door,
Unaware is the armored scorpion to the urgency in their words,
Unmindful is the cockroach to the opening of the door using force,
Unheeded is the spider to the creak of the body hanging from the wooden rafters from a noose.
Creak.
The door breaks down and the mouse isn’t concerned of the frozen shock of the authorities,
The scorpion’s attentions isn’t on their gasps and Spanish mutterings,
The cockroach is impervious about the note hastily written in English on the dirty bed sheets,
The spider is ignorant to the fact that the note reads:
“The abuse was too much to bear,
After years of endurance,
May God forgive me for what I’ve done.
To my little Angels:
I will find you in heaven.”
Creak.
The mice scamper away,
The cockroaches hide in plain sight,
The scorpions scutter and hide,
The spiders watch and prey,
Yet none of these creatures are concerned about the troubles of humankind.

Giethoorn in Netherlands has no roads or any modern transportation at all, only canals. Well, and 176 bridges too. Tourists have to leave their cars outside of the village and travel here by foot or boat by. So you can probably imagine how peaceful it is here.
