I was bartending, waiting on tables, and teaching the American accent before I came to L.A. So that part wasn’t too hard. I did find it interesting, though, when I did get here. I mean, teaching the accent itself is quite easy because it’s isolated and it’s slow and you can sound things out. But then being on set and doing a heated scene where you’re yelling and screaming, it’s amazing how quickly your own accent slips out. And you’re like, ‘Oh, my students would be so disappointed in me.’

Do you remember the day we went to The 1975 concert? I remember it like it was yesterday. It’s so clear in my memory. One of the best days of my life. Prior to me surprising you with tickets, we used to lay in my bunk and listen to their album. We’d be so sleepy after shows and meet and greets — it became something I’d look forward to: pretending I didn’t know who you were all day (under managements orders) to coming back to the privacy of our bunk, laying next to you with one headphone in my ear and the other in yours. I remember one night we were listening to ‘The City’ by The 1975 — this was one of our favourites because it reminded us of the dream we used to have. To move to New York together, “get an apartment in Central Park, eat hotdogs and fall in love three times a day” as you would promise me. One other dream you had was to see The 1975 Live in concert, lucky for you they were playing in LA in about a week’s time and I had managed to get us some tickets so I could surprise you with them. I didn’t want to make it too romantic, we had enough restrictions as it is. I wasn’t about to propose to you with tickets (as much as I wanted to). Instead I took the headphone out of your ear and asked you how you’d feel if you were to see them live. I remember you looked at me and smiled and told me it would be a dream come true. I pulled out the tickets from under my pillow and handed them over to you, “We’re seeing them next week, Camz. I mean Ally is coming with us because I didn’t want to look too suspicious. She’ll only be with us on the way there, she offered to make her own way back and all that at the end.” I still remember the way your brown eyes lit up, and the way your smile stretched from ear to ear. It really was at that point I knew I wanted to see you smile for the rest of your life — better yet, I wanted to be the reason for that smile. The concert was perfect, we danced and sung all night while holding hands. We met the boys backstage and had a bit of small talk; we joked around with Matty and had a few pictures taken. The night ended too soon, I wanted it to go on forever — just me and my best friend. I remember leaving the club and we had started making our way home. We had been walking around for about 10 minutes before you stopped walking and grabbed my hand. You told me that tonight was the best night of your entire life and without any more words, you leaned in and kissed me. I remember the whole world stopped when I felt your lips on mine. A feeling I had been craving for what seemed like an eternity. To be able to grab your waist and pull you closer while you kissed me. I remember I could feel you laughing as your tongue slid into my mouth. “There’s no better taste than someone else’s laughter in your mouth.” You weren’t my first kiss Camila, but I promise you were the only kiss that mattered. From that day on I was addicted. I just wanted to kiss you over and over again. To kiss every part of you, to feel you. It was the first time we properly kissed and I was yet to learn it wouldn’t be our last either.
