Another great title sequence, that is definitely completely different from the other one I chose is the Grease title sequence. Although it is a little lengthy and of little quality for how old it is, I love it. First of the song choice is just amazing, probably because Franki Valli is the man and because it is just an iconic song. I like how the sequence keeps you intrigued the whole time, introducing you to all the characters and what they are like. I am not one that enjoys animation but I just think the opening for this is so good and helps you get a feel for the time period and setting.

Although I have only seen one or two episodes of this show and never got into it, I have a strong appreciation for the title sequence. It is basically just different angles of zoomed in parts of the logo, however thats what I like about it. It leaves it mysterious and does not give you any hints to what the show is about and leaves you wondering. The music in the background also adds immensely to this effect. You can tell that it has to be something creepy and thrilling and makes you want to keep watching. I think this title sequence goes really well with the title and makes you on the edge of your seat.

Activity Follow Up

I really enjoyed meeting all the Seniors and Juniors. I am glad I got some good insight to what these next few years are going to be like. Seeing all their projects is definitely intimidating and I know will be challenging. It also made me nervous when they said they sometimes have to stay at the Westphal Center for several days. Seeing their finished projects however does make me excited for whats in store. I’m excited to learn more about packaging, book covers and learn how to use illustrator and such, especially because I'm not to knowledgeable in that field.

For my Design Event in Philly, my roommate, a couple graphic designers and I went to the first Friday event in Old City. First Friday is an event where galleries all in Old city open up where you can go in and view the art work. I went into three galleries, that of which I don't remember the names of. However, I know the first picture I took was in the Old City Jewish Art Center. I really enjoyed this trip other than the cold weather. I thought the galleries were really interesting and the pictures above were some of my favorite pieces of artwork that i’ve seen. We weren’t allowed to take pictures in some of the galleries however I managed to sneak in a couple. Overall, I had a really great time and I will definitely be attending more often.

Another book I chose, also has to do with packaging, was Package Design Now. This was the first book I picked from the aisle. The cover really stood out to me because of its sleekness and high quality. I really enjoyed this book because, like the other one, it shows big beautiful pictures of the products. I think this one also showed more variety with the different designs, like seen in the last two pictures, which I like. The trip to the library really helped me to get an understanding of where everything was at. It came in handy when I had to check out books yesterday for my art history paper on architecture.

One of the books I chose was Packaging. I knew right when we got the paper that said where the different books were that I wanted to get a book that has to do with packaging. Packaging is one of the main reasons why I chose the major graphic design. This book really stood out to me because of all the designs of packaging. The book was separated according to age and maturity level. I really enjoyed the sleek designs and even how the photos were positioned on the page. They made sure to make the pictures bigger than the text which I think is really smart because it focuses on the product and the words don’t take away from it.

NCC vs. Website

Without a doubt the exhibit is 10x better than the website. The website only has one page about the exhibit and doesn't live up to it. They show no pictures of it and have only a few bullet points on it. I don’t think the website does it justice. You could see in the exhibit how much effort was put into the space. Like the facts on the menu at the table, or the church pews that were constructed just for the exhibit. Overall, I don't think the actual website is bad, it is very interactive and has good typography and such. I think when it comes the the information on the exhibit, it lacks a lot.

The destination I chose is the Seychelles Island. I really like how vivid and interactive the website is. The background is constantly changing with these beautiful landscape photos. I think they do a good job engaging the viewer with a bunch of unique photo that look very interesting.

Another thing that I think it has that most other websites don't is they have 360 virtual tours, interactive maps and smart phone apps. I think the website is well designed because it is very easy to navigate and is pretty straight forward. They also have pictures to go along with everything that is written which makes it more visually pleasing.

For my restaurant branding I chose Philly Style bagels. I think the logo is extremely clever, being that the liberty bell was turned into a bagel. It goes really well with the name. I like how simple it is, yet eye catching. The second picture is of their website. I really like the website a lot, its very clean and sophisticated. A fun fact about this logo is that it was created and hand painted onto stucco (seen in 3rd picture) by my cousin Marissa who is a graphic designer in Philly and has her own business called Super Signs on South Street.

A more acclaimed artist that I choose is Bradbury Thompson. He worked for 60 years in NYC, for companies like Rogers, Kellog and Stillson, the magazine Mademoiselle and the West and Co. Paper Corporation and also taught at Yale.I think I am really drawn to his work because of his use of color and compositions. The colors really compliment each other and are really eye catching. I also really like his overlays. I think they are really cool and different probably especially in his time.

The first designer I choose who s in the beginning half of their career is Salih Kucukaga. He works for an intimate design studio, specializing in identity design and packaging. I really was drawn to his work probably because of his typography. I think it is really beautiful and minimalistic. I think the most beautiful thing about it, is that it doesn't need color to stand out. I think his work is really sophisticated and trendy, which is probably the reason why I like it most.

My group and I went to Rittenhouse Square. We saw many things along the way and many cool advertisements. The coolest restaurant branding I saw was this Mac Mart. It stood out to me obviously because of the neon sign but also because of the simplicity of it. It looks really neat and hopefully I can go back one day and try it out.

I thought these book, movie and album covers were some of the best in 2016. All of them I believe are really captivating and enticing, which makes you want to invest and watch the movie or read the book. I think the colors in all of them really help set the tone and catch your attention. I think all the colors really compliment each other and go nicely. Also, especially with the book covers, they do a really nice job representing the title and leave you wondering what the book is about.

I chose these pictures because I really loved the feeling that each one brings when you look at it. I like photos that capture moments and make you feel as if you are there. As you can also see I like photos that are black and white or less saturated. It shows that you don't need a bunch of editing and a saturation to have a beautiful photo.

I am also into older time photos. I think they provide really cool insight to see what it was like back in the day like fashion, everyday lifestyle, etc. Lastly, I really enjoy photos of celebrities as you can tell from the first few photos. I think its cool to see what their life was like on and off stage. Now a days you can see that with instagram so its not as entertaining as older photos.

Reflection

I really enjoyed the guest speakers that came to speak to us last week. I liked how they were both graphic designers but their fields were totally different. Both created amazing things that I hope to learn how to do throughout my time here at Westphal. I also enjoyed talking to them after about their classes that they took here which really helped give me some insight on what is to come.

I was most intrigued with the woman who went first considering that is more along the lines of what I want to do. I have always wanted to create designs, logos, and advertisements for people. I thought it was cool how her work is now all over the place, such as billboards, pamphlets, etc. I hope to be there one day so hearing what her job is like was great insight.

The Westphal Event I attended was the Fushion Band and Rock Ensemble on November 29th 7 to 9pm at the Mandell Theater. The Drexel University Fusion Band is an advanced performance ensemble that plays a variety of musical styles and genres including Funk, Reggae, Salsa, Samba, Afro-Cuban, and World Music.

I really enjoyed this event because I stepped out of my comfort zone of the art world and tried something a little bit different. I was really fascinated by all the instruments. Its mind blowing to me how one can read dots and lines on a paper and make such beautiful noise. I also thought it was amazing how half the time they were improvising. It all flowed so nicely together you would have never known they were making it up on the spot.
