Penny Dreadful first look: Natalie Dormer descends upon the City of Angels (ew.com)

âWell thatâs a relief, wouldâve been a bit awkward if you said no.â She teased, Ameliaâs smile mustâve been contagious because Daisy couldnât stop beaming since she saw her. Sheâd never been a big fan of PDAs, she put it down to her awkward personality but Amelia always had this wonderful affect on her; she just put her so at ease. So much so that she leaned in to kiss her without hesitation before whispering, âHi,â Shaking her head, as much as it was worth coming all this way for even a moment of her time Daisy couldnât simply go that soon. âNo iâm here for as long as you can spare. I need to give my brain a rest from proof reading.â
âLike i could say no to youâ Amelia chuckled, shaking her head slightly. Saying no to Daisy had never been one of her strong points. âHiâ She giggled, leaning back from their kiss. âGood. Because I intend on keeping you for as long as possibleâ
trying to stop disappearing for large length of time i swear. Working on stuff soon

Fred looked at her for a second, an out of place half smile on his face like he couldnât quite believe what he was hearing. The fact that he was getting kicked out just for trying to make sure she was okay? He scoffed before downing the rest of his drink, heavily putting the glass back down on the counter. He shook his head, a mixture of disappointment towards himself and genuine anger coursing through him. âFine.â He raised his hands. âI tried. You know what? I tried.â The thought of seeing his mother again made him feel even worse than seeing Amelia. âWhy donât you tell her?â He shoved past and went for the front door.
âIf you tried, you wouldnât have joined those threatening our familyâ Amelia snapped back, allowing him to shove past her. In the past she would have followed him out, made him stay after an argument to stop him doing something stupid. This time was different, she felt her anger burn through every limb. âBecause it isnât my place to tell her and she wouldnât believe me. Sheâd look for you again and since you are in London I doubt itâd take her long to find you.â She turned, looking over to him âAnd plus, I donât lie to her like you do. Iâd tell her exactly why you left.â

Them. There was such an obvious divide. It was a matter of âus and themâ and he wasnât part of the us any more. He looked at her for a second before pulling his sleeve up. The tattoo stood out amongst an array of others that he had gotten in an attempt to âblend inâ but there was no mistaking what that meant. He wondered why she was surprised. He had basically set himself up considering the people he had spent his teenage years trying to impress. âJust⊠leave here. Itâs for your own good.â He pulled his sleeve back down.
Amelia could feel her heart break in two as he pulled his sleeve up revealing the one thing she didnât want to see there. It now all made sense, he hadnât just gone missing. He was training or on a mission, whatever it was it was something to do with him becoming one of them. She let out a shaky breath and wiped a tear from her cheek. She knew he didnât have the most well behaved friends but this? This was something entirely different. âGet out. Get out now.â She said, barely loud enough for him to hear. âCome back tomorrow when mother is home. You wonât have to worry about him being around, they split not long after you disappeared. You tell her you are okay and that you are sorry. Itâs the very least you owe herâ

Fred was glad when Susan left. He poured himself a glass of the bourbon he had retrieved and took a drink. The familiar taste spread through his body. He leaned back against the counter, hoping that she would take her time with whatever it was she was doing. He never guessed that she had seen anything until she returned with that look on her face and grabbed his arm. He looked panicked, âW-what are you talking about? No? Why?â He yanked his arm away aggressively. âWhatâs wrong with you?â
âI swear to Merlin Fredrick. That better be some kind of naive ridiculous tattoo and not what it looks likeâ Amelia said through gritted teeth, she had see so many recently, she had been trained to spot them even if only a little bit was visible. âWrong with me? Whatâs wrong with you? You disappeared for months and you come back with that. Donât play dumb with me, I find them for a living remember?âÂ

âItâs not running. Itâs just⊠sensible. How about that kid, huh? Do you just want it to die? Because if you stay here Iâm pretty sure thatâs whatâs going to happen!â Fred paced the room before leaving to try and find the kitchen. He opened various cupboards in an attempt to find something to drink. âJust with some friends,â he answered. She probably already knew that he usually kept in bad company. He found something promising in a high cupboard and jumped up onto the counter to reach it. Just for a moment his want blinded him and his sleeve rode up, revealing the very bottom of the tell-tale tattoo.Â
âIt? Her name is Susanâ Amelia stated, following him into the kitchen. âSome friends? Who didnât have the courtesy to tell us you were alive?â She tried to understand why he never came back, she convinced herself early on that it wasnât because he was hurt or killed but every theory she came up with made little sense the more he elaborated on where he was. She watched closely as he reached for something, her heart skipped a beat as the very bottom of a familiar tattoo appeared. She clenched her jaw and forced herself to remain calm. She placed Susan back down in her cot before returning to the kitchen, grabbing Freddie's left arm. âPull it up.â She requested, her voice quiet and shaking, tears in her eyes. âPull it up and show meâ

freddobonesâ:
âThatâs not what I mean,â Fred said as assertively as he could manage considering he looked like he was going to flee at any moment. The room seemed too hot, he kept tugging nervously as his sleeves but he couldnât take his jumper off. âTake them with you. JustâŠgo somewhere far away. Donât be an idiot.â He sniffed, âIâveâŠheard some shit lately and you need to go. Just trust me, okay?â He caught her eye for a moment and had the urge to cry. He was failing her just by existing.
âIâm not running Freddie. Why should we run? There are so many who wish they could but canât. Why should we not stay and help them?â she questioned, âSome shit. Where were you Fred? What were you doing?â

Daisy couldnât recall the last time sheâd been this happy and it was all down to Amelia. Sure her best friend had always been a source of joy in her life but since they agreed to try give them a go, they just seemed to fit better than ever before. She couldnât get over how lucky she was, I mean Amelia was smart, gorgeous, funny.. what she saw in Daisy always puzzled her.Â
On that particular day sheâd been working on her book but after two chapters her mind was beginning to drift and she knew she needed a break or sheâd only end up writing a dull mess that would need re-doing after she proof read it later. Sheâd surprised Amelia for lunch! A master stroke of a plan she thought- until she was outside the quaint cafe she knew her girlfriend enjoyed and it dawned on her. What if she went elsewhere? what if Amelia decided to just get a quick bite at work, she was usually very busy.. Her panic didnât last long though as she spotted the unmistakable blonde inside utterly oblivious to the daft actions of Daisy.Â
âThis seat taken?,â She asked softly with a bright smile as she approached her.

A quiet place to eat was hard close to the Ministry was hard to come. Most employees headed for Diagon Alley on lunch breaks or to the Leaky. Amelia however much preferred a quiet little muggle spot just down the road from the Ministry in muggle London. It was a welcoming place, always quiet and they made the best coffee. It was her favourite place but she tried to make sure she wasnât there all the time or around the same times. She didnât want anyone picking up on a pattern just in case, an old habit from the war.
Amelia had just opened her paper after ordering a coffee when she heard a very familiar voice speak up. âI think I can spare it just for youâ She smiled happily, standing to greet her girlfriend. âPlease tell me you are here for lunch and not just stopping by quickly.â

Fred stared at the ground like he was addressing it directly. âI canât stay. Itâs not safe. Same as itâs not safe for you to stay here either.â He dared to look up at him, âIâm serious. You have to leave. Youâre in danger if you stay here.â He clasped and unclasped his hands, unable to be comfortable.
âOf course itâs not safe Fred. There is a fucking war going on! Iâm a hit witch, it comes with the job descriptionâ She snapped, âIâm in danger no matter where i go and Iâm not abandoning my family!â
Here I Come Again
freddobonesâ:
Fred deliberately didnât look at her directly, he had only glanced at the child because he was inclined to believe her. He just didnât understand how that was the case and he didnât want to accept the blame. âIâm leaving as soon as I tell you,â he said with all the confidence that he could muster but he seemed to have used it all up trying to get her to listen to him. He grimaced at the thought of having to see his mother - whom he missed more than anyone else. He couldnât face her and tell her this, Amelia had been the easy option. Or so he thought. Perhaps his brothers would have been a better choice. âAnyway, thatâs the point. You have to leave here.â He tugged his sleeves down.
âYou are joking? Leaving? You just got back!â Amelia was trying her best to stay calm, the last thing she needed was to wake Susan by yelling. âMe leave? I..you disappear for months and say nothing and then expect me to just up and leave too? For what reason?â
