As seems to be a common theme in my life, I’m slowly returning from a spell of inactivity. To be fair, it’s been a weird could of months. It started with my best furry friends declining health and my decision to set aside everything to spoil the heck out of him in his last weeks of life. At the same time, I left a much-loved and comfortable job for something completely new and unfamiliar with many more working hours than I’ve been used to for the past 3 years. And very shortly after that, I moved into an apartment of my own. I’m just now feeling like things are settling back into place, though I know the adjustment period is far from over. Juggling my new work schedule with my art is going to be a challenge, as I only have a few free hours a day to do everything that I need to. . But anyways, here’s my first new project, which is actually a really old project that I’m finally getting around to finishing. Coating yesterday’s paint layer with #artresin !! One more paint layer to go. I’ve only used @art_resin for a couple of paintings, but have loved the results each time. I think the glossy finish of the resin really makes paint colors pop, while making all the pieces of the painting uniform the same way varnishing a painting does. The protection the resin offers is also really appealing because it’s so easy to clean (whereas varnish has to be removed to clean a painting) and literally seals all of the details. No chance of denting or scratching the actual paint once the resin layer has cured completely. And if the resin gets scratched, you can just pour on another layer of resin and it fills in the scratches seamlessly. But probably my favorite thing about using art resin on my paintings is the dimensionality it adds to them. I’ve composed artwork with multiple layers in the past, but every result looks flat. By applying resin between each layer of paint, the paint begins to cast a shadow on the layer before, making the viewer able to see the dynamics of the artwork more clearly. And if you fudge up a layer of the painting, you can remove it by sanding without damaging the layer underneath that you already spent time on. Add all that to the fact that art resin is just ridiculously easy to use, non-toxic with no fumes, and the staff at @art_resin have conveniently put together an extensive FAQ, while keeping a helpful #youtube channel updated with tips and artist interviews. Hi there, my name is Maddie and I enjoy torturing myself by painting intricate patterns by hand that will just be covered in the next layer.
