Farewells

A weird thing to say goodbye to someone. I’ve always been a big proponent of “it’s not goodbye, it’s just see you later.” But how do we navigate saying bye even if it is temporary? We hug, we tell the person how awesome they’ve been, we turn away. As I wrap up my last day at eMarketer, I’m feeling like this isn’t an act of closing the door. I’m walking forward to another door, another opening. And when I do look back, it will be with fond memories.

“Bucket” List

With 52 days remaining until I ship off to London for 2 years, I’ve been asked what I’m going to miss the most about New York and what I plan to do to savor these last few weeks. Weird that is all comes back to food?

People say the London food scene is less than stellar, although I think the past few years have seriously changed that tune. But NY is full of new restaurants and old classics and pop-ups and food trucks and 5 boroughs filled with deliciousness. And apparently I want to eat my way through this place.

See you later, Empire State Building. I’ve got Big Ben. But boy will I miss those Empellon tacos.

Be an Idea Person

I attended a conference on Women in Tech many months ago and recently came across my notes. Wondering if they were worth keeping, I skimmed through and found some gems.

“Get known for your thoughts -- ideas worth spreading”

“If you’re serious about ideas, get serious about blogging”

“Be skillfully pissed” (where on the warmth vs strength spectrum are you?)

“You can have it all, just not all at once”

“Everyone needs a wingman”

“Collect data (speak to relevant parties), process it separately, come back with the end decision and explain WHY to those that provided guidance.”

“Make other women aware of the fact that you don’t need to be a computer scientist to be a female leader in technology.”
