Alison wasn’t completely sure she believed Madeline’s story, but she had no reason to think otherwise and felt a sting of guilt when she doubted the story for even a second. Alice’s serious face broke with a bittersweet smile, a small laugh escaping her lips. “Dog movies are sorta the worst.. I feel like I’ve told you before not to watch anything about dogs or horses - they never end well,” she responded. The lighthearted moment quickly dissolved as she heard the question that Maddie asked. A lump began to form in her throat and she tried her very best to swallow it before it consumed her completely, but failed miserably. “I just… should’ve listened to you about going over there… or about him,” she replied, her voice cracking and tears beginning to fall from her eyes despite her trying to hold them back.

Madeline’s stomach flipped but her smile didn’t falter, she felt bad about lying to Alison but she wasn’t even exactly sure what she had been upset about. “I know, I know..” She closed the door behind Alice then followed her into the apartment. “Hey it’s okay, tell me what happened.” Maddie grabbed her friends hands to try and get her to look up at her. “Was he hooking up with that one girl from twitter? Mer?”

A sigh of relief escaped Alice as she was wrapped in the taller girl’s arms, instantly feeling cared about and safe. She relaxed into her arms for a moment, taking in the scent of her perfume before pulling away slightly and gazing up at her best friend. “Maddie.. are you okay? I mean, I know you’re not. I see your eyes..” she reached up and brushed a hand against her friend’s cheek. “Why have you been crying?” Alice asked with a look of concern painted on her face, forgetting all about her own night, at least for now.. at least until she knew Maddie was okay.

Madeline self consciously ran a hand under her eyes like that would take care of the puffiness. “I was watching this thing about a dog.” She shrugged with a faint smile like she knew how ridiculous it was. “Think I just got a little too into it.” She lied leaning into her friend's touch. “Why do you look like you’re about to start crying? Did it not go well?” She asked pulling her into the apartment.

After taking a long, hot shower and attempting to scrub the regret off of her body, Alice found that nothing she would do would change how weird she felt about going as far as she did last night. She wasn’t sure she could even consider it sex with how abrupt it was and unromantic it was. She felt unattractive and embarrassed and as much as she wanted to just crawl in bed and hide from the world, she didn’t want to be alone. It was late at night, past midnight, and she knew only one person who would be there for her no matter the hour. After throwing on pajama pants and a loose shirt and throwing her hair into a messy bun, Alice made her way solemnly through the halls and to her best friend’s room. With a hesitant knock, Alice crossed her arms across her chest and looked down at her feet, only looking up briefly when the door opened and revealed the pretty blonde on the other side. “Mads, I know it’s late… but, can I come in?” She asked, barely able to look into the other’s eyes for more than a second.

Madeline couldn’t even tell herself why she texted DJ they dated for such a short amount of time so long ago he felt lke a non entity. Maybe it was the fact that she knew he wouldn’t say no. After some brief kissing she left almost as soon as she showed up, to be honest neither of them were terribly into it and Maddie didn’t blame him, she figred few people would want to kiss her post cry. She hadn’t even been home long enough to feel like throwing up her guilt when the door knocked, walking back across her apartment she swung the door open expecting to see DJ but pulling the shorter girl in for a hug as soon as shse saw who it was. “Of course.” She said without hesitation.
