i wasn’t manifesting anything, i was literally analysing the cinematography, the blocking, the colour theory, the narrative beats, all the stuff i was trained to look for during my TV degree. the signs were there because the show put them there.

the duffers absolutely queer baited the audience. everything I learned academically about visual storytelling was pointing toward a byler slow burn, and then they completely abandoned their own setup. we didn’t hallucinate subtext; we didn’t “make up” a ship. they built it, then pretended they didn’t, and the result reeks of homophobia.

they didn’t subvert expectations, they ignored their own narrative groundwork. that’s not clever writing, that’s just bad writing. they tore down a storyline they spent years constructing, and now the overall story makes zero sense.

The fact that even in a montage of milevens happy moments, Will is in the background of almost every single one. They can try all they want to turn this around as if Mileven is the power couple of the show, but it’s written IN THE TEXT that Will haunts their narrative. They switched it up. They were baiting their audience and now they’ve lost thousands of people who would’ve rewatched, lost a future queer audience, and lost credibility as writers.

What’s even more frustrating is that they’re going to gaslight everyone into thinking queer people are the villains again and the hate for the show is unjust because we’re just mad about our “ship”. The same way they tried to play off the disappointment with Mike being Wills Tammy as “this is the more important message, shipping wasn’t a thing in our minds” like fuck you. It’s more than that, and you know very well why people are upset. Never let them gaslight us into thinking we were crazy, we weren’t. The criticism is ABSOLUTELY justified, they let down their queer audience.

What’s even more f’d up for that gay bar scene is that other characters imagined futures had something to do with their personalities, but all Will’s had to do with his sexuality.

Yes, he should embrace that part of himself that he used to be ashamed of, but holy shit. Nothing to do with his art? His paintings?

That’s even worse. That’s what makes me angry. They genuinely watered him down to the “gay one” of the group there.
