Many don't know how the original Mai Tai came to be, it is a product of a chef who cooked a mix of French, Chinese, and Polynesian cuisine. This drink was created in San Francisco by the chef and came to be loved by people of different cultures all over the world. Making a Mai Tai is something you can do at any food or beverage gathering to wow your guests and I will be showing you how I make my famous Madi’s Mai Tai.
First you need to head to the grocery and liquor store, and if you're lucky, your grocery store sells both. For the ingredients make sure you pick up,
1 ½ ounces dark rum
3⁄4 ounce light rum
1⁄2 ounce Grand Marnier
1⁄2 ounce simple syrup
one lemon, juiced
one lime, juiced
1 orange, juiced
1⁄4 cup pineapple juice
1⁄2 teaspoon grenadine
After you collect all of your delicious ingredients, you prep all of your lemon, lime, and orange by juicing the fruits.
After you juice the fruits, put them into a big mixing jar, and save the skins.
We will take the skins of fruits and use them to garnish the glasses.
Use a pitcher that you would use for lemonade, then put in all of the juices and stir them up. In a separate glass large enough to hold the liquor, mix together the dark rum, light rum, grand marnier, and grenadine in and mix it together.
After that, you need to then combine the two mixes together in the larger jar.
I then like to the liquids and put them in a blender halfway full of ice and blend until the ice is able to fit through the straws.
If you can take a pineapple and make it into rings, at the bottom of every cup, place the pineapple ring. Serve with a festive thick bamboo straw if you can find them at the tiki section of the party store.
When you bring these beautifully prepared mai tai cups to your friends at happy hour, you will blow minds. Your friends won't believe how amazing it goes down.
If you want to relax, and pretend like you're on an island, make a pitcher of Mai Tai and hang with some friends, youll feel like you're in Hawaii.
