Having never watched Psychopath Diary is Seo Inwoo a cool killer or a pathetic loser? I keep seeing cool gifs of him but people make him sound like a drenched kitten.
So confused here at the sidelines. Please help.
From a technical point of view, he's not a bad killer. He was able to keep his “nice guy” façade for a long time—the only person who was suspicious of him was his father. He was somewhat creative when it came to staging his murders, making them look like suicides. He wrote diaries abouts his predator life, had a cartoon-ish secret room in his home and, unless he had to make some damage control, he normally pursued victims when he was in a good mood (so mostly not by impulse). It was cute how much fun he had. He was efficient, but still took the most of it in terms of entertainment and stress relief.
On the other hand—and this is one of the reasons why people call him pathetic—his preferable choice of preys were people “at the bottom of the food chain”, or, in other words, the poor, the meek and the vulnerable. Which, to be honest, makes it seem like watching an apex predator kill squirrels. It's not against what you would expect of it, but it's the same predator that could take down much bigger and faster animals, so it kinda feels like a waste.
Especially when you put him side by side with Dongsik (his rival), who's also a hunter, but takes down predators like Inwoo, that are twice his size, which makes our drenched kitten look considerably less cool in comparison.
Inwoo is a nerd when it comes to serial killing, and he's good at planning, but sometimes things go wrong in ridiculous ways, because the universe just loves Dongsik better. Or, more likely, Inwoo obsessed over Dongsik so much it made him stupid? Everything began to fall apart when they met, because Inwoo had to have him for himself or whatever. Some gay shit that made him exponentially reckless, until he ended up on his knees for Dongsik, and was subsequently sent to jail. An extraordinary journey that rewarded him with the pathetic loser title you mentioned.
