WORK NIGHTS — ༉‧₊˚.
ft. kuroo tetsuro !
꒰ SYNOPSIS ꒱ : normally once you get home from work, you and kuroo have a pretty set routine, but it’s always fun to catch him off guard.
꒰ CONTENTS ꒱ : MDNI. f!reader, established relationship, oral (m!receiving), mentions of deepthroating, minor cum play, titty sucking is good for the soul, just something silly for this man — WC : 1.1k
꒰ NOTES ꒱ : this has been sitting in my drafts for awhile, so here :3 dividers by @/cafekitsune ᰔ
reblogs and interactions are always appreciated ! (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ᰔ*.゚
work nights were pretty routine for you and kuroo. come home, make dinner, eat, talk about your day, clean up, watch whatever show you guys put on before getting ready for bed and laying in each others arms until your alarm went off the next morning.
but something about kuroo looked so fucking good tonight, you just couldn’t help it. the tv was playing but you weren't paying attention to it. at all. instead, your eyes trailed down his face, the divine slope of his nose, the sharpness of his jaw, all the while he was mindlessly watching whatever show you put on.
“tetsu.” you whisper in his ear from where you’re nestled into his side, his arm draping along the back of the couch. he only hums in response, squeezing your shoulder to show he heard you. “let me suck you off.”
“yeah—“ kuroo freezes, wide amber eyes looking over at you. “wait, what?”

the thing about kageyama is that he was never mean. and the show works really hard to make it clear that he was never malicious or mean spirited. and so he doesn’t have to have a redemption arc, his character arc becomes centered around understanding, trust, and love. he isn’t learning how to be kind, he’s always been kind. he is learning how to see other people and learning how to know other people. he always loved volleyball but now he loves his team. and he really really loves hinata

Aside from all my complaining about the tragedy of JJK, I do want to say that Gege is absolutely incredible when it comes to constructing parallels between characters and their relationships. There’s Itadori and Geto down to the ingestion of curses/cursed items in order to gain their power, wanting to be the hero in a story that prevents them from doing so (i.e. wanting so badly to do good but their power is inherently destructive, causing them to unravel), and Gojo and Fushiguro are also a given, with their narratives deconstructing the typical trope of the “chosen one”.
[id: it’s two screenshot of jujutsu kaisen panels, the first of Sukuna grabbing his neck as Itadori takes his body back, and the second of Kenjaku grabbing his neck as Geto tries to take his body back. /end id]
[id: it’s a screenshot of Gojo and Fushiguro from jujutsu kaisen when they’re first meeting. Megumi is young, about six years old, and Gojo is his eighteen-year-old self with his hair down and sunglasses on his nose. /end id]
But then you look further and you get stuff like Getou and Nanami, who were both heavily impacted by the death of a close, mutual friend, and how they dealt with that. They both stray off their paths, but their response to their disillusionment is vastly different: Geto fully plunges into a delusional quest for justice (finding the twins was just the final straw that he needed) whereas Nanami does the opposite and runs away. And then there’s Toji vs Maki, where they’re both scorned despite their immense power and considered outcasts. Toji had something to hold him back from killing the entirety of the Zen’in clan (Megumi) but Maki had lost hers (her heart had been taken from her, after all).
[id: it’s two screenshots of the jujutsu kaisen manga. The first is of the panels where Maki and Toji are drawn in the same stances, and the second is of Naoya asking Maki whether she has a human heart, to which she replies “No… it was taken from me.” /end id]
There’s so much to unpack even down to the framework of the relationships that Gege sets up, like Satosugu versus Itafushi, and how it’s set up to a point where Fushiguro will likely be the one to either a) kill Itadori, or b) break the cycle that started with Geto and Gojo. You can even look at Nanami and Haibara vs Nanami and Itadori, and how Itadori is almost a reflection of Haibara, at least through the eyes of Nanami, and how Haibara’s death influenced how Nanami treated Itadori. I could ramble for ages about this, but honestly, the bottom line is it’s actually really impressive, especially for a shonen manga where the genre doesn’t typically focus on that sort of thing.
I can't stop thinking about a fifteen-year-old abandoned teenager who spends half the day at school and regularly visits his grandfather, from whom you can't get a word of affection.
I think about a very independent boy who has to do all the housework, washing, cleaning, cooking, doing homework, because there is no one else to take care of him. I think about how lonely he is, even though he looks so bright and funny outwardly. I think about how attentive and kind he is to others, and loneliness has not hardened him.
I think about how he, in turn, simply and naturally treats his loneliness without dramatizing, although there is no one nearby, and it can be too quiet sometimes.
I think that he got used to pretend, to wear a mask and smile. I think about a strong, persistent boy, who has no time to concern about himself with his heart full of sympathy and compassion to others.
And you literally learn all this from the first pages of the manga.
I love the subtlety in the way Akutami shows Megumi’s character development in this arc, culminating to Megumi’s resolve here — how he finally sheds his earlier frantic desperation (fuelled by Tsumiki’s approaching participation deadline), and his calm acceptance of what he needs to do to survive this ordeal so that he finally return to his friends/family’s side. To continue protecting those he wants to keep safe (Tsumiki, from having to participate in active killing, and also Yuuji, by giving him a reason to live/keep moving forward despite the atrocities Sukuna had committed while unsurpressed in Shibuya). I also really love Megumi’s line “俺はただ全力で降りかかる火の粉を払えばいい” when he reaches this moment of clarity. Even though this chapter marks the first time he’s killed on-screen and taken a human life (as opposed to exorcising a cursed spirit), there is no ‘madness’ in him despite how methodically ruthless he was when he begins fighting off Reggie’s men. There is still a clear brightness, a sharpness in his gaze, much like Yuuji’s in the previous chapter — showing Megumi’s sudden clarity of thought/conscience, and perhaps still, of his child-like desire to ‘save unequally’, and then to return to the side of the people he cares about (the one thing that truly matters to him). The narrative and his thoughts are not framed as a spiralling ‘madness’ either. Instead, he thinks “What am I doing?” and then “Don’t lose your head; Trust in the others” — as if to pull himself out of the adrenaline rush of a fierce battle; to find his centre again and re-compose himself so that he doesn’t lose himself completely to his own emotional turmoil and impulsive desperation.
It’s also interesting how Akutami has Megumi’s line reference this particular proverb; in its original context, it’s to describe something that’s done as protection and/or in self-defense—literally, waving off the sparks before they land on you and burn you. The sparks are metaphoric of any possible obstacles, hardships and difficulties that one might encounter, akin to weathering through a storm of fire (or in Megumi’s case now, it’s the explosive bombs from Reggie’s men).
AND THIS. This is the thing that gives Megumi hope and makes him strengthen his resolve, that encourages him to fight back seriously when he’d been feeling overwhelmed before by the odds against him. Knowing that Yuuji had managed to win Higuruma’s help to add the new rule to the Culling Game; that Megumi can always trust Yuuji to keep his promise to “save” him (and in turn, to help save Tsumiki); that Yuuji has his back and will do his utmost best to come through for him so they’ll survive this together… hence THAT SMILE… hhprhdjskfjv Megumi is sO SOFT for Yuuji and I have Feels….
Hi! I love your blog and all of your meta post, they are so amazing!!!💕 in your post about sukuna and megumi and mentioned gay subtext in the phrase “misetekureta na” :0 can you explain?
Mwahahahaha can I? Of course I can!!
I lost track of the original post so I’ll explain it directly.
The first time is on their first fight, when Megumi is going to summon Makora, the second one is during Shibuya when Sukuna is fighting Makora. The kanji that he used on both instances are the same.
魅せてみろ is usually translated as “show me what you got” just like above, but more literal translation is “try to fascinate me!”. Rather than simple objective “show me” (which usually written as 見せて but has the same reading “misete”) 魅せて is more on the line of showing one’s appeal, in trying to attract the opposite side.
So yeah, when Sukuna says 魅せてくれた in Shibuya, it more literally means “you’ve fascinated me”.
