Gray Wolf Delisting Bill Blocked in Senate
Earlier this week, a procedural objection from Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, blocked consideration of S. 1036 by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, which would remove gray wolves from protection under the federal Endangered Species Act. A similar measure passed the House late last year in a bipartisan 211-204 vote. Supporters argue that wolf populations have recovered and now present significant challenges for livestock producers. Even if the legislation passes Congress and is signed by the president, gray wolves would remain protected under California law. Johnson could seek to bring the bill forward again later this year.
