I've seen some people saying the fake!Daeron plot was actually a smart idea from Ryan Condal. But guys don't be giving him too much praise because this idea is copied straight from the ASOIAF novels and the Game of Thrones tv series.

In Game of Thrones and the novels, Sansa dyes her hair darker so no one will recognize her red hair and she pretends to be Petyr's bastard daughter.

And switching out the real person with an imposter isn't an unique idea either.

In the ASOIAF novels, no one knows what Arya looks like so they force Jeyne Poole to pretend to be her and marry her off to Ramsay and only Theon recognizes who Jeyne is.

Watching people get pissed over the Aemond/Alicent kiss and saying this is obvious team black favoritism from Ryan Condal to make the Greens look bad is so funny because they legit gave Daemon a whole ass hallucination of him fucking his mom last season but yeah... Ryan totally just loves team black so much 🙄

I told myself I was staying away from HOTD this year but I keep seeing team green stans complaining about Ryan Condal's team black favoritism. Like where?? Ryan Condal has done so much since season 1 to show the Greens in a better light. Book!Alicent was a grown woman beefing with an 8-10 year old Rhaenyra and then wishing death upon her when Rhaenyra was pregnant. The Alicent you know and love from the show is NOT the same Alicent from the book and you can thank Ryan Condal for those changes.

So I don't think I've ever spoken about Viserra on here but I am 100% a Viserra apologist (not that I think she did anything wrong though).

This has probably been discussed a thousand times before but I don't go through the tags often. But I am so confused about Alysanne's interpretation of Viserra's attempted seduction of Baelon. Queen Alysanne said Viserra only did it out of ambition to be queen. Not only do we not have any evidence backing this claim up but Aemon was also still very much alive and well at the time. I don't believe succession had been decided either yet. Alysanne herself wanted Rhaenys to be queen after Aemon.

Even if Baelon was his brother's successor at that point in time, it could be a very long time away before Baelon could even sit the throne himself. No one knew Aemon would die just a few years later. He was young and in good health. So I do not get why Alysanne thought Viserra did this for a chance at being queen because that chance could be a very long time away for all they knew.

I know King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne are not winning any parenting of the year awards any time soon but wow I still can't believe that Queen Alysanne, supposed champion of women, somehow didn't understand that her 15 year old daughter, who was described as wild, high-spirited, and had plenty of friends in King's Landing, simply did not want to be married off to an old man in the cold north and be sent away from home.

Viserra's preening and prancing around Baelon was likely just her having a girlish crush, she was literally only 15!!! 😭 Baelon was known to have been a great husband to Alyssa and a good prince and father. Of course Viserra would develop a crush and think he's her only way out of a terrible betrothal.

I know Viserra is described as sly but we really get no proof she was some great schemer. She was an impulsive teenager, not a mastermind. She was just a young girl who wanted to stay at home.

I love how Targaryen women like Rhaenyra and Daenerys are always compared to Visenya as if Rhaenys herself wasn't also a conqueror. Not every woman who rides a dragon to war is Visenya come again 😭 I'm also just salty because I just think Rhaenys tends to be ignored a lot by canon and fandom even though it's her bloodline that runs through every Targaryen :(

Tbh I know it might be a controversial opinion but I don't consider Alicent to have been forced into marriage with Viserys. I don't consider her to have been forced into making any of the choices she does in the show.

Alicent was best friends with a princess of the realm, that alone granted her privileges that no one else would have. She could have just been open and honest with someone she considered her close friend and like 90% of the show's plot wouldn't have happened. Also Viserys is a known pushover. He's a doormat. If she made her disinterest known in any kind of way, Viserys would have backed off. It's not like he's an overbearing, forceful man. Out of all the Targaryen kings, he would be the best one to reject lol. If she wasn't brave enough to tell Viserys herself, she could have just been honest with Rhaenyra about what Otto was pushing her to do and Rhaenyra would have told Viserys herself and that would have been the end of that.

And don't get me started on her being the literal queen and still letting the men around her walk all over her 😒 Like what is the reason for that? The only time she likes to actually try to use her power is against Rhaenyra. Alicent's problem isn't that she's forced into doing things, it's that she lets people make her do things. Like girl you are not helpless, you never have been.

For example, Rhaenyra was forced into marriage with Laenor in the book and show. Everyone knew Laenor was into men but Viserys threatened to remove Rhaenyra as his heir if she did not marry Laenor in the book because of his desire to patch things up with the Velaryons. That's an actual helpless situation to be in. You don't want to marry a man but you'll be removed as your father's successor if you don't. What would Otto have threatened Alicent with if Alicent did not comply with his wishes? Again, Alicent was supposedly best friends with Rhaenyra, a princess with her father's favor. Rhaenyra had the power to help Alicent out of nearly every situation if Alicent would have just came to her instead of being more loyal to Otto.

Like yes Alicent's marriage to Viserys was unfortunate and sad but I'm just saying that she had options but the only option she ever chose is "I need to stay loyal to my father even if it starts a war and puts targets on my children 😞".

It's always funny to me when I see team green stans truly believe their own delulu that the Greens were just one big happy family. I've read posts where they truly believe their fanon that Aegon and Helaena had a happy marriage, Aegon was a good father, Alicent was a loving caring mother, Aegon and Aemond were the best brothers to each other, etc. Like idk how to tell them this but the family dynamics they desperately want the Greens to have is fully present in canon with the Blacks lol.

Why is Alicent here instead of Rhaenyra??

In one of the asoiaf books you have Stannis Baratheon referring to Rhaenyra as the usurper woman who tried to steal her brother's throne, you have Fire & Blood written by a maester who was sympathetic to the Greens, you have Rhaenyra getting the most misogynistic labels such as Maegor with teats, Rhaenyra the Cruel, the bitch queen, the whore of Dragonstone, even though none of her misdeeds even come close to what anyone else did during the war, Rhaenyra's sons couldn't even let her be recognized as Queen after the war so they could please the Green sympathizers they were surrounded by, but yes Alicent, the woman who helped her father start a senseless war and placed her son on the throne, is actually the biggest victim and everyone unfairly hates her 😒

I truly hate the narrative the show started that Alicent was actually the one unfairly slandered by history. They really try so hard to make her the victim over Rhaenyra and so many people fall for it and they won't even recognize how wronged Rhaenyra was by nearly everyone. Rhaenyra has one of the saddest stories but it feels like most people refuse to see that for some reason.

In one of my last posts I said that Rhaenyra can't have anything to herself without the show making it all about Alicent too. Like Rhaenyra can't even get unfairly smeared by history without Alicent coming in and claiming that for herself as well even though it doesn't make sense. What reason would Westerosi history books have to hate Alicent? She was like the model housewife. She obeyed men, she advocated for her son to have the throne over a daughter, she was a boy mom who thought her sons could do no wrong in the book, she knew her place, etc. Why would the men who write these history books have reason to hate Alicent of all people?

rhaenyra indirectly gives alicent her scar because rhaenyra is the one who starts the riots. the scars are representative of the harm they cause each other in their commitment to duty despite their shared love. it’s referencing the theme of love versus duty

I understand what the show was going for and I still hate it. I don't like their shared love 😭 they should be enemies at this point in the show. Any love they had for each other should have ended forever ago. I honestly think it would have been more interesting to see their love for each other turn into very bitter resentment than whatever they have going on right now. We seemed to be getting that in season 1 before Alicent suddenly started caring for Rhaenyra again out of nowhere. At this point Rhaenyra has been robbed of her throne, she has miscarried her only daughter, her son was murdered, and her aunt/cousin (what is Rhaenys to Rhaenyra??) was killed in battle. Alicent's grandson was horribly murdered, her son burned and crippled in battle, and she and her daughter were attacked by the smallfolk. All these events happened in quick succession. There should be no fond feelings for each other any longer and I don't like that House of the Dragon keeps trying to show the relationship between Alicent and Rhaenyra instead of giving us an accurate portrayal of grief and the anger and vengefulness that should be happening now. When their families are actively getting killed and the realm is in a civil war, I don't think Alicent and Rhaenyra should be longing for each other and Alicent definitely shouldn't be asking Rhaenyra to run away with her. There's too much hurt on both sides for them to still be realistically feeling this way.
