Mana, blood coating her hands and her face, surrounded by the charred, stabbed, torn apart bodies of those who wronged her/ someone she cares for, laughing maniacally until it turns into sobs and screams of agony, and her nails are raking into her own chest to make the voices in her head stop. The disappointment from her masters, the glee from the demonic voices that served as her tormentors.

She claws and digs through her own flesh, scratching to try and get it all out. The ugliness.

There’s a gentle tilt of his hands, and she moves her head to comply, her gaze meeting his.

For a moment, she just lets herself look at him, focusing on the fine lines in his face and the different shades pooling in his eyes.

It’s beautiful to see up close.

Something gentle and warm, close enough to see the wonderful imperfections that show a life lived.

A few thousand years old or not, she’s always been a sucker for a gentle touch. Even something small like this.

Touches like this that make her feel human again.

She hadn’t realised how long she had been starving for it.

Her hand locks loosely around his wrist, torn between holding him there and pulling back away.

Her eyes close, and she tilts her head down again, unable to meet his gaze any longer as she slowly shifts back.

Stories that live rent free in my head 24/7:

- life after the events depicted in the final season of dm. Like how Yugi is for a while after, Mana adjusting to her master being gone etc etc

- life in Khemet after Atem’s death. Mana’s slow burn descent into madness and weird cooperation with the demonic presence in her mind and soul thanks to her use of the ring

- literally anything involving other universes or crossovers. All the time. I have too many thoughts

- someone somewhere works out how to capture Duel Monsters for enslavement, entertainment, servitude, etc. DMG gets captured and collared trying to rescue another duel monster and the aftermath.
