I woke up this morning around 5. I was facing the window and opened my eyes to see a bright light in the sky. It looked about the size of a helicopter or plane but didn't seem to be moving. Smaller than the Moon, larger than a planet. I dozed, woke again, and opened my eyes. The light had moved bit to the right. It couldn't be a plane, or the light would have gotten bigger; it was the same size. It looked square, but my vision is about 20/300, so I wasn't sure. I watched as the light moved slowly to the right, still within the frame of the window, 15 inches wide. I said, "Mike, there's a spaceship out there." Mike sort of woke up, glanced out, and said, "It's Venus." I said, "It's way too big to be Venus. It's 11 times larger than Venus." And it was. I'd pictured Venus in the largest state I'd ever seen it, and I could fit 11 of those imagined Venuses into this light. (11 times? 10 times? My math is horrible.) I put my glasses on, looked out, and saw that the light was round, moving at the rate of a celestial body. Could it be the Moon?! I'd never seen a full Moon that small. The idea that it might be the Moon felt apocalyptic. I got my camera and went out on the porch to take a shot. That was when I saw the real Moon, the correct size, crescented above the strange light. I didn't have a tripod, so I could only stabilize my camera on one plane: the horizontal rail of the porch. So the image was going to be blurry. I zoomed to maximum. The sphere looked like a eukaryotic cell surrounded by organelles: a nucleus, mitochondria, golgi apparatus. It was an asteroid. Had to be. I went and woke Mike up again to show him the pic. He said, "It's Venus." I said, "What are you talking about?! It's huge, like an asteroid—heading right for us!" I googled "Venus and the Moon." Skyandtelescope.com had this to say: "Venus (magnitude –4.7, in Virgo near Spica) rises as an eerie 'UFO' above the east-southeast horizon a good two hours before the first light of dawn." It was Venus. (Eleven times larger than I'd ever seen it before.) #venus https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq5o5GHHYz7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ah8027oo6n5u
