Malia: And why wasn't I invited?
Wes: Did I tell you about my pregnant girlfriend? Well she's refusing to leave the house until the nine months are up.
Malia: Oh, you may have mentioned that. Ew. Well I probably wouldn't leave the house either.
Malia: Do you need help?
“Yeah I can understand that but I think it looks worse than it actually is.”
“You could be right. Tempted to advise then to keep that stuff to themselves next time but they probably wouldn’t listen. Oh well it’s their life not mine.”

Wes: So I'm getting ice cream but there are so many flavors.
Malia: And why wasn't I invited?
“Think it’s weird that we both think that way? I guess it’s not so weird since you don’t seem put off about it either. Come on, let’s just walk around a bit more instead. I feel that everyone’s eyes are on us.” He lead her back out of the store, away from the curious eyes. One would think they were busy enough with the christmas chaos instead of focusing on the two of them.
“I don’t know what I think but I’m surprisingly okay with all of it. I definitely don’t care what they think but I wouldn’t mind getting out of her,” Malia agreed and followed him once more. At this point she figured whatever they did she wouldn’t mind at all because all she wanted to do was spend the rest of the night with him and they were stuck here so it kinda worked.
“Thea. Pleasure to meet you Malia. Even in these weird circumstances.”
“The pleasure is mutual. Weird things do seem to bring people together. I’d like to think it’s because most of us love having a reason to judge one another and not feel bad about it.”
…I’m someone who’s mostly dead inside but still has a little hope for something extraordinary, which, as I said, is the worst breed of human, because it means I know everything is bullshit, but that I secretly hope for the day when it might not be.

“These are some desperate times we’re living in.”
“I guess so. I’m Malia by the way. And yes that was me needing to change the topic before I get too grossed out.”
“Ah…” He was caught. He wasn’t aware that he had been speaking out his thoughts either but still, he stood there chuckling to himself. “Nothing really..” He shook his head while his eyes trained on their joined hands. The warmth from her hands was comforting; so comforting that it felt that he should never let go of it. “I was just wondering why I felt that way is all.”
At first Malia felt nervous when he paused after the single syllable but she saw that his eyes flicked to look at their hands and she felt the nerves disappear. “Well you aren’t completely alone in that. I was wondering the same thing,” she admitted.
"You and me both…" He chuckled while his thumb subconsciously brushed over hers. Holden kept his focus on the items in the store but his mind kept going back to the kiss. To be honest, he was very taken aback to how he was feeling. "I wonder why…" He mumbled to himself, unaware that he was thinking aloud. Having all the eyes on them didn’t help either. Holden looked up and saw that nearly everyone in the store was either flushing from the scene or just grinning. "…maybe we should try another store."
It was nice to hear that she wasn’t the only one feeling a little odd. The vulnerable feeling was something that Malia was sharing with him and it was very relieving. She shivered when his thumb brushed over hers and completely failed to notice the looks they were getting. She did however hear his comment about wondering that he failed to finish but before she could ask he was suggesting another store. “Yeah we could do that and you could tell me what you were wondering,” she answered with a smirk. She couldn’t resist calling him out even though he had seemed like he hadn’t really meant to say it. Besides she was curious since she was currently wondering a lot of stuff herself.
"News never seem to have good stories nowadays."
"You aren't wrong. Maybe I should stop watching it."
"I know right."
"I don't understand why anyone would even do that to begin with."
He cleared his throat as he straightened his back. If she hadn’t pulled away, Holden would probably have continued which was something he wouldn’t have minded. “Yeah.” He breathed before chuckling lightly. “That was um.. wow.” He would have mentally cursed himself for repeating what she said, but honestly, what was that feeling? “Shall we?” The store seemed so irrelevant right now and he was still holding her hand. If it weren’t for the stares they were getting, Holden wouldn’t have pulled them further into the store.
Malia felt like her stomach was full of butterflies something she had never been able to understand before. Butterflies in your stomach? That was stupid. And yet his laugh and repeating of her own thoughts only made them feel all the more intense. She was elated. All she could do was nod in agreement to his prompt to continue and then she followed him, her hand still clinging to his tightly. Something which surprised her since part of her was scared of this new feeling. "You've practically rendered me speechless," she finally admitted aloud, flashing him a small smile.
When Holden had his arms around her, he didn’t know why the feeling he had when they held hands came back stronger. This was the first time that ever happened to him and despite his better judgement, he was curious to know why this was happening. Was it something to do with the girl? Either way, his lips met hers and he didn’t know how long the kiss had been, but he didn’t feel like letting go.
In moments everything became heightened for Malia. All she could focus on was the feeling that seemed to burn within her. A warm sort of spark that made her want to never stop kissing him. It was amazing and horrifying all at once. It made her feel vulnerable and that was something she liked to avoid at all costs. And yet she didn't pull away. Malia kissed Holden until she felt a vague memory trying to fight it's way through. They were in public. In a place where she could very much hear the many people around them now that she tried. As much as she'd like to continue she didn't like sharing this intimate show with those surrounding them. Very gently she pulled away, feeling nervous. "Wow."
"A lot—enough to fill a novel. So instead, tell me about yourself. What’s new with you?"
"Yikes. Well you'll have to fill me in at some point. Me? Hmm, in a completely cliché turn of events I met a boy. And I'm already cringing internally from saying that out loud. Honestly aside from that it's the same old everything for me."
"How long has it been? I’ve only gotten weirder with time."
"Very long and very true. How have you been aside from the general weirdness? Anything new?"
