3rd October, 2017
Hello friends!
I’ve been so horrible, I know. I’ve been procrastinating. And instead of watching everything on my list, I’ve been filling me free time with Jane Tu Ya Jane Na. The better news, however, is that I’m employed again! So that does leave me with lesser time than before to work on my food adventures. I’m still watching Chef’s Table, but will definitely be getting my hands on my first food book this weekend.
Until next time!
P.s: On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.

I’m going to be honest, I have already seen the more modern, popular food movies. Chef, Burnt, Ratatouille; even though I plan to watch them again as part of this project, I’m getting seriously troubled by the fact that most food movies to watch are…kinda old. I have always thought there is charm in vintage, always believed that classics are classics for a reason, and that they belong to yesteryears for a reason. I don’t know why it has just occurred to me, that there has been so much progress in cinema and story writing.
Thank the lord, we don’t have to bear with too many misogynstic stereotypes anymore. Waitress is a story of…a waitress named Jenna. Jenna is an extremely unhappy woman with an abusive husband and she has a bun in the oven which she absolutely loathes. She is absolutely wonderful at making pies. She invents a new one everyday! You think this movie is going in a direction where Jenna is all about taking charge of her own life, but no. She’s a Mary Sue. She is the Hollywood version of a sad Bollywood female lead, who is always too good to anybody, no matter how horribly they treat her.
Each shot of pies in this movie make your mouth water. Luckily, there are a lot of them. It is what saves the movie, but they begin to lose the pie-plot as well, they only really use it well in the first part of the film. You guys, I have no qualification to call myself a critic, I haven’t even seen Pulp Fiction (geez). I just want to enjoy movies which use food as a tool that contributes to the movie, and isn’t just there to make a hit trailer. I really don’t want to watch movies that were not made in this decade for a while, so I’m going to shift to food books.
I’m always on the lookout for suggestions! Whoever is reading? Hit me up?
29th August, 2017.
I watched the film Chocolat the other day. It is about a woman who opens a chocolate shop that challenges the morality of a very small French Village. The thing about the film is, it is seventeen years old, and absolutely everything about the movie is seventeen years old - the simple acting, predictable storyline. The only character which had some dimension to it was that of the main one, Vianne, played by Juliette Binoche.
(On a side note, Johnny Depp was playing a pirate even back in the year 2000???)
To be honest, there’s not much to say about Chocolat, other than how simple the film is. Which is great if I’m looking for something that simple. But our regular consumption of cinema content is just so much more complex than what it was seventeen years ago. My favourite part of the movie was the the literal use of Chocolate. It really had a magical element to it, the way it healed the people. It was used as a catalyst in the film, and was in so many ways cathartic to the characters. I definitely feel motivated to experiment with, and try out more varieties of chocolate and move out of my milk chocolate comfort zone. I’m convinced that chocolate is the answer to a lot of problems. Remus Lupin is certainly out there, binge watching this film.
Starting Chef’s Table
24th August, 2017
Alright, no need to call me a noob because I’ve only just started watching Chef’s Table. It’s one of those things everyone has just assumed you’ve seen if you call yourself a foodie? Well, I’m just going to blame this late entrance into the scene on my hopeless wi-fi connection that has the ability to give me grief even on 144p. So Chef’s Table is a documentary series where each episode is focused on an exceptionally talented Chef. Although I’m still on season 1 out of the 3 that are out, 13/10 would recommend. Usually when I binge watch a show about food it makes me seriously hungry, and I just have to order take out immediately. Like if you’ve seen the movie Chef, you’ll remember that small scene where Chef Carl makes that very simple grilled cheese sandwich for his son. I thought about that sandwich for days. I made it for myself eventually, with extra butter lathered on both sides of the toast, even though I knew it was no match to Chef Carl’s. More over Sugar Daddies, where the Chef Daddies at??? Chef’s Table doesn’t make you want to order an ordinary dinner. From the few episodes I have seen, it’s made my eyes widen with the shock, that I am so unaware about chef’s around me in the city who are trying to push the envelope when it comes to truly extraordinary cooking. I don’t think pav-bhaji fondue counts as pushing the envelope, but I’m going to be on the lookout for a changing world on my plate. We would all love to think that we have it in us, that special something that distinguishes us from the rest. That little spark which is all about actual genius, madness even; and most importantly, Greatness, the way all the Chefs featured on the show have achieved. As every episode of Chef’s Table closes, I find gentle reassurance in the fact that I have greatness in me too, and it’s just on the verge of making it. Here’s hoping it does make it then, whatever little is in each of us. You can call my vague idea of Greatness rubbish, but hey, it works rather well as a confidence boost. It’s a win!
Shall discuss Chef’s Table more once I finish all the seasons. In case ya’ll (I know everyone reading is my friend) don’t hear from me in the next 10 days, I must have OD-ed on Modaks.
See you soon!

Hello!
22nd August, 2017
On a very heartbroken Monday morning in July, I watched Julie & Julia accompanied by two boxes - one filled with macarons, and the other, filled with tissues. What’s not to love about Julie & Julia, no? It’s about two women really taking their lives in their own hands in the food business. I related to them. Like so many young women do, I’m sure. Now it’s a very heartbroken Tuesday morning in August, and luckily, the jittery need to do something important and special with life hasn’t disappeared. I’ve always believed that when it’s the right time, it will come to me. And here it is, I guess. In the form of a good old tumblr blog (as it has before, but this one hasn’t been abandoned yet, whoo!). I seriously love writing, and I seriously love being involved in an adulterous relationship with food. So 365 days and an infinite number of food-related books to read, movies to watch, documentaries and tv series to see, art work to understand, music to delve into, and so many places to go. I know myself, and my goal really is to break 1 habit, and build 1. I want to stop abandoning ideas, and I want to push myself to constantly learn. I can totally imagine this blog becoming a mega internet sensation, and I also see no-one but 5 loyal readers (hello nikki), for the next year. But that’s okay, because at it’s heart, this is a personal project.
Also, is it bad that my first meal of the day was a McChicken Value Meal? (you can call it blasphemous, but I’ll always call McD a god-gift).
