Some things to note - This is an old post I made a while back when I first started officially writing Wesker that I’m bringing back & adding to bc I’m thinking about things again.
I personally believe the Virus in Wesker’s system has changed him for the worse. Subconsciously, it has control over his actions & behaviours. Though he lives in relative harmony with the infection, it has monopolised his body & much of his mind. The thing is he’s kind of conscious of this. He knows he's not himself & though it would be useless to lament he does spend his less . . . Driven moments trying to study himself & the adverse effects that have come with his loss of humanity. He describes this change in himself as being overcome by hatred.
I’m gonna be running with the idea of Wesker’s charade of humanity & his poise can be shaken, revealing the ugly, inhuman thing thats taken his skin because thats really all Wesker is. A shell. Playing at being human, from his memory of what he used to be, but what is now is something completely undefined. He is kind of conscious of this, as I said he knows he’s not fully himself anymore & describes it as being overcome by hatred.
The virus has altered him on a cellular level & made him quite monstrous. Though this isn’t entirely obvious in body, its more so in mind. As a result he’s very violent/blood thirsty & sadistic which weren't necessarily traits he had previous to that which is very much true to canon or seems to be. Using this post for reference, I believe while Wesker was desensitised to a lot & the way he recounts on his thoughts / the process of his life as a young researcher I think it REALLY displays how normal & in a way even “good” Wesker once was but how Umbrella groomed & desensitised him in such an insidious way he became cold & pessimistic to a fault. In his “human” life however, I don’t think Wesker was a psychopath, just someone who experiences blunted affect & was very desensitised & cold / logical way in how he came at human life.
Wesker was never overly enamoured by human kind & always found himself feeling disconnected again, due to his intellectual capabilities & the fact he was pretty much forced into Umbrella at a very young age. He did however make connections & bonds with people, William Birkin being the best example of this.
Nowadays any lingering attachment he had to humanity after his resurrection died with William, who he believes is the only person who could have “helped” him & was buried even further when he discovered the truth of his origins from Spencer which IMO was the big catalyst for putting him on his ultimate path in RE5 as I’ve spoke about before here.
Like I said before came back wrong is def a trope I draw from with Wesker ! Like Wesker’s intelligent & he puts up a good “normal”, even gentlemanly act most of the time but the hate & rage that burns just beneath the surface is shockingly volatile. Its very easy for him to switch from cool & composed to absolute mania & savagery. (See RE:CV for a great demonstration of this) I think this idea is fairly supported by canon. Again Wesker himself claims “When I awoke. hatred became my master”.
We know there is a strong idea in the RE series that the viruses are obviously their own “things” in many ways. They’re frequently “personified” & this is shown with pretty much all infected characters like Marcus, Alexia & William. G is treated as its own separate entity from William with its own consciousness & Alexia refers to the T-veronica virus or simply “Veronica” as she calls it in the same way. ( although I think this was exclusive to the Darkside Chronicles, it tracks imo ) Which makes plenty of sense.
Technically these virus are in fact living entities who are controlling their hosts for their own means. I think even hosts like Alexia & Wesker who retain a high degree of intelligence & “personality” are not exempt from this & think Wesker tried to draw attention to this. These Virus’s are standing out because their particular strain has found a way to harmonise with & utilise the hosts intelligence.
We even saw this with William to a degree, despite the virus being unable to properly bond with his body the “G” that possessed William was still remarkable as a specimen as it appeared to make use of his intelligence & memory. William in general was very atypical for what was previously observed in failed G-hosts.
& what is the main & overpowering goal of all viruses ? To spread. One could even say these monster viruses in RE take on a very demonic quality in the sense that they simply wish to stomp out human life. Which brings me to Wesker’s behaviours/goal in RE5. At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep any of that but having thought about all that I feel like it does make sense, & THE MORE I think the more sense it does make & the more it adds up with other things about him I’ve been developing since writing this post originally.
Wesker is driven by an overwhelming urge to destroy what the parasite that dominates his existence perceives as competition ( the human race ) which he reasons to himself as “saving humanity from itself” because he’s able to make many good points about the state of the human race as is & how “unworthy” they might be, which again agrees with the perception of the virus inside him as destroying its competition.
I found it fascinating how all the while Wesker was invested in antiviral, anti-B.O.W research that ended up being so important & influential for anti-B.O.W organisations to the point where much of the fruits of these findings are named after him in his honour, mostly redeemed Umbrella’s reputation in the publics eye & thus what a massive contrast this made Wesker’s “private” research to the more infamous Uroboros Plan he was set on carrying out. I don’t know that the two were connected because as I’ve also mentioned this big plan of Wesker’s also seemed to carry extremely suicidal undertones. Which also make sense to me given again the human part in Wesker that still lingers in him was having trouble understanding what he was, why & what it meant for him. He was kind of backseat driving in his own body & mind most of the time & then above all suddenly the virus inside him starts killing him ? He had to make sense of it all, it seemed a purpose had be forced on him & he had to carry it out because he couldn’t simply die doing nothing.
The Wesker that manifests in his anti-viral research papers seems to be very much in line with the Human Wesker who worked as an umbrella researcher in his youth & was disturbed by what he began to suspect about Umbrella/Spencer. Which makes me wonder if this research was done by Wesker previous to his encounter with Spencer & the human part of him that still lingered kept them for sentiment sake or if it was just a little hobby he kept up on the side for the nostalgia, for lack of a better way to put it. Which I still wonder about.
While the Virus may have owned him, its still a fact he was able to have his own thoughts. I just view them as clouded & overridden by the virus = hatred/anger that made its home within him after the mansion incident. Again he’s kind of backseat driving in his own body & he loses grip of the wheel sometimes, especially under high pressure like for example his conflicts with Chris. Wesker tries to explain what he’s doing in these moments but it just comes off insane because in a way it is, but not in his mind. In his mind its the most sane thing there is.
Also I wanna add even if it may be debatable about whether or not the Virus itself or Spencer’s master plan went to Wesker’s head in the way it seems, which I personal do adhere too, another factor is the SHEER power Wesker had. Like this was no joke, we’re mocking this dude for comparing himself to god but what other comparison did he have ? I think the way you manage to kill all the super powered mutants in RE as a silly little human with a gun & a boss bitch attuite leads people to undermine how powerful these mutants really are & Wesker’s a great example. He’s OP as fuck. Wesker could literally pick up & launch a missile with his bare hands a feat which he actually preforms in game ONE handed. Wesker could take a blast in the face with an RPG & shake it off like it was nothing, he could also grab the rocket fired at him & stop it. He was that agile & that strong which is brain breaking tbh. & I feel like even in universe not many people knew what Wesker was TRULY capable of because he kind of hid a lot of it.
Theres a scene in CV where Wesker decides to stop toying with Chris where he punches a chasm into the SOLID ROCK/CONCREATE ground. The sheer force behind that punch to make a chasm in solid ground is unreal. Like you could probably drop a couple tons of concreate & not make the same indent Wesker made with his bare hands in a single punch. Wesker was noted to be able to kill high powered B.O.W.s in a single strike. Think about it, it takes SO MANY BULLETS to take out a lot of the B.O.Ws in the series, you need increasingly power weapons to put them down & even then you usually have to hit ‘em a few times. Wesker was one punch man-ing them. The amount of force behind one of his punches was enough to do so much damage it would kill these things effortlessly. Ultimately Wesker was REALLY holding back in his confrontations with Chris which makes it more frustrating because he could in fact have killed Chris very easily but he was so arrogant & sadistic he couldn’t stop toying with him until it was too late.
Although not to be a chrisker shipper or anything & I don’t necessarily mean what I’m about to say in that light but-- I do wonder if there was something more than arrogance & sadism behind Wesker’s failure to just kill Chris & his cohorts when he was actually perfectly capable. Like did he want Chris to stop him somehow ? Idk, food for thoughts I guess.
Adding this here too too bc its too tiny of a titbit of info to bother making a new post for: Another thing the Virus changed about Wesker is his height. While human he was 6′0-6′1, but after being bonded with Virus he began to get taller, he’s now closer to 6′4-6′5. Makes perfect sense given the various examples of growth experienced by multiple infected specimens throughout the series. Just about all infected seem to grow in some way, the most extreme cases being things like reptiles & insects who grow to gargantuan proportions, but its been observed with almost all other’s as well, we even saw this with the standard zombies so yeah, that's how I’m explaining Wesker’s height change. Like I know capcom did it to make his model more intimidating in the game, especially cos they beef’ed up Chris like crazy & if they didn’t kind of add to Wesker’s model he probably wasn’t gonna have the same scary/intimidating effect when he stalks you around in the game if he was just some twink in comparison to Chris the bear Redfield lmfao.
Doom music playing as Wesker stalks you around the temple thing trying to kill you but when you’re hiding he stops & fixes his hair like the insane conceited bitch he is.
That had been a rhetorical question, more or less, but Ricardo's response brings a lopsided smirk to his face, along with a bit of an amused hum. Of course, he knows this is no genuine postulation, merely a lie told to keep him placid. After all it wasn’t as if the other man was in any position to argue with him & so it amuses him all the same.

After all, if it wasn’t for your vast array of connections I never would have reunited with Mr. Spencer. ❞ There’s a sharp, border-lining sarcastically pleasant chime to his tone as he speaks, one that nearly mimics Ricardo’s own exasperation, the deceptive layer that veils their lies to one another ever-so-thinly.
If Ricardo thought he had a reason to be bothered, to feel betrayed, to feel as if he had lost everything & anything his black heart had ever desired than he could scarcely imagine how Wesker himself felt about the entire ordeal.

Teenaged genius. He was headhunted by Umbrella at 16-17 & enrolled in their executive training school.
Here he met William Birkin here, another teenaged genius headhunted by Umbrella who was two years younger than him.
Heads at the executive training school deemed Wesker & Birkin their top students & instantly tried to incite a rivalry between them. They became close friends instead.
It’s heavily implied Wesker was contacted by Spencer to steal samples of Marcus’s T-virus to not only graduate from the training school but to secure a position as head researcher at the Arkley Laboratory.
He apparently bargained for William’s inclusion in this. Ever wonder how / why two literal teenagers were put in charge of Akrley & why they were the only ones to graduate from the training school which was then promptly shut down ?
Didn’t know Umbrella was trying to make B.O.W.S until much later. Explains the research into creating B.O.W.S is the same research as protecting/preventing them which is why this research was allowed. (Again, good insights into how insidious Umbrella was & how it groomed & shaped characters like Wesker & Birkin. )
Was the one who noticed Umbrella was in fact making B.O.W.S for nefarious reasons. ( Not researching them for prevention measures as originally presented. He continued to support this as it made sense from momentary stand point. )
Noted openly that from the moment he & William were “introduced” to Lisa Trevor they were essentially trapped & had no choice but to produce good research or end up like her.
Only started considering murdering people himself when they were upsetting / disrespecting William. Thought it would be funny if not completely appropriate to use these colleagues as test subjects. Details his justification for why which offers some MORE fun insight into Umbrella’s grooming.
Was the one who become concerned about the T-virus research & why Spencer was trying to engineer B.O.Ws & get a 100% infection rate when this was just insanely dangerous for the world + made no sense as a monetary thing that Wesker had originally excused/understood it as. (Pay attention to the bolded text :))
Was the one who, due to this “concern”, began to conduct his own research on the T-virus. Discovered the virus was able to infect all biological matter & was then instantly troubled by the fact the Arkley research facility was located in a dense forest & therefore a T outbreak could be absolutely catastrophic. Begin to wonder if this was intentional & if so, why.
Laments not being able to share much of this with William at the time due to his bad headspace after the Alexia ordeal. However, he started to suspect Spencer was up to something due to his disregard for the cost of the research. Decided to slowly distance himself from his work as a researcher & eventually transferred into the Umbrella intelligence division instead to find out more.
Was heavily implied to have been betrayed by Umbrella himself. Canonised it for my own portrayal. Ada somehow knew about this ━ whether because Wesker told her or because she dug around & found out something herself.
Spent time personally trying to screw over Umbrella & steal/outsource their products to amass wealth / take over the company for himself.
Was described to feel immense anxiety toward Spencer, reaching its peek upon their final confrontation with the greeting “You're back” & the smile that made Wesker realise just how much of all this was planned out by Spencer, & BOY DID IT GET WORSE FROM THERE.
Researched anti-viral counter measures extensively. Whether or not this had something to do with the Uroboros plan is uncertain but it is known Wesker’s research into this was so important & prominent he is credited for the redemption of Umbrella & several of the most well known biohazard counter weapons are named in his honour. (Hilariously ironic)
Came up with a theory that is largely true that the personality/emotional/mental state of the host largely influences their mutations + the virus evolution inside the host. Continually questioned & lamented his own loss of humanity privately.
Implied Wesker’s doom’s day plan was as much suicidal as it was genocidal. Consider, for a moment, that if Wesker did release Uroboros, & Uroboros wiped out most of, if not all of the human race, not only would there be millions of rampaging monsters most likely destroying all civilisation but with this who would prepare Wesker’s all important medicine ? Notice he didn’t keep a huge supply of it with him, in fact, there only seemed to be enough (several doses) for him to complete a certain task (presumably releasing Uroboros & the finalisation the Uroboros plan)

He should kill her now, while he had the chance, while she was alone, separated from the other stragglers who were miraculously resistant to the onslaught of the mansion’s B.O.Ws. It should have been annoying & yes, indeed it was . . . But in more ways it was fascinating ━ admirable. In Rebecca's case in particular. She was so young, so green & yet she had managed to survive almost everything Umbrella had up it’s sleeve.
This entire ordeal keeps him torn. The deaths of many of his other subordinates had been underwhelming & utterly disappointing, but he couldn’t judge them too harshly ━ it wasn’t as if he could have prepared them for what was coming but it made the S.T.A.R.S who had lived shine all the brighter. . . Hell, she & her fellow survivors almost made the years of research he conducted with Umbrella look worthless.
Which would have been a real bother if he hadn’t became so damn disenchanted with the entire company years before now. This was his ticket out ━ he still needed at least one them to face the Tyrant.

truth is . he wasn’t thinking . chris redfield tends to fly by the seat of his pants in most scenarios. once one plan goes wrong , and another strategy obliterated by unforeseen circumstances . what else is there to do than to put his brain to work to figure out a better solution . yeah . it was all against protocol , but fuck . when it’s a life or death situation , what else is he SUPPOSED to do . no doubt chief irons , will have his badge for this one . that fucker , the sleeze he is , has been looking for a reason to can chris’ ass since he walked through the door of the precinct for the first time . didn’t help when chris had the audacity to go under the radar about shit irons has been doing on the downlow . all of it , didn’t work in his favor and only has made his life HARDER . see something , say something . pfft. BULLSHIT.

He's a pain in the ass this Redfield. An authentic goodie-two-shoes. & yet, despite how just how nauseating that truly is, he can't help but feel some sense of admiration for the other man. Nothing he would ever admit, nothing he's fully wrapped his head around, even, but there was something about that rebellious fire in Chris that makes him smile, at least in his more private moments.
He was passionate, headstrong, a perfect union of will & heart, a man who would die fighting for what he believed to be right. The ideal soldier, in many ways . . . & yet in a corrupt system, in a corrupt city, this made him entirely, tragically flawed. The two of them were opposites here. Chris does what he does because of heart, because of justice. Wesker does what he does because of logic ━ because the ends justify his means. Chris was an in-the-moment man & Wesker was always looking at the bigger picture ━ The long run. They might have made a perfect team if they had ever been able to unionize ━ but at times it seemed that would be against Chris's very nature.
& this was where Wesker's disappointment comes from ━ not from Chris's actions ━ he wasn't entirely wrong; he just wasn't going about it the right way; indeed, he expresses disappointment because he sees such potential in Chris & no clear way to tap into it with the lack of discipline he continues to display.
Not to mention he had spent the last half an hour before this getting his ass chewed off by Irons, the cause of this unnecessary shit show. He hates that man, that lecherous, greedy & troublesomely intelligent man. The similarly disappointed look on Chris's face puts these thoughts at the forefront of his mind. Everything would be a lot easier if Irons wasn’t in the way, that was certain. He plucks the sunglasses from his face as he takes a moment to pinch the bridge of his nose before returning them.

Petty displays of insubordination will only earn you a fast discharge, and there is only so much I can do to prevent such an outcome.
