Scientific Classification: Lavendula officinale or L. Vera
Lavender is one of my favorite herbs, both for it’s smell, and range of magickal and medicinal properties. Its also absolutely gorgeous!
There is a lot of folk magick type knowledge surrounding lavender, which makes it a surprisingly versatile spell ingredient.
Use in these spell types:
Traditionally used in sachets
In poppets (used here to mean “an effigy of the person meant as the target of the spell” and does not have any cultural connotation)
To attract men (as a perfume)
Burn the flowers to induce a restful sleep
The scent of lavender is rumored to produce a long life, and thus should be smelled as often as possible.
Place lavender under your pillow while thinking about your wish. Then, turn in for the night. If your dreams are related to your wish, then it will come true. If not… well, then it will not manifest.
The meer sight of this beautiful flower is said to dispel depression and sarrow and fill the viewer with happiness and peace.
Supposedly, taking 80-160mg of a lavender oil product will significantly reduce anxiety. It is possible that this also works through aeromatherapy.
Use to treat canker sores.
Use to relieve menstral pain.
Can also be used to induce sleep, and can even be useful for people with insomnia.
