Four years ago we had, we gave this first time ever on TV live performance at this stage AMAs, it was DNA and we were too excited and nervous⦠Itās been a long and amazing ride since then but nobody couldāve ever bet on the odds of us standing here receiving this award, except our ARMY, except y'all. Seven boys from Korea, united by love for music met the love and support from all the ARMYs all over the world.Ā Ā ā Ā Kim Namjoon

what is the venn diagram of pretty asian boys & people who believe in abolishing the police?
if we could find the center of that diagram, it would end all wars and start a thousand new ones. they would be the helen of troy of modern life
i guess this is the new fanfic iāll be writing
BTS was already the worldās most powerful boy band, but even they didnāt anticipate what would happen when they announced their full support of the Movement for Black Livesā āDefund the Policeā agenda. Around the globe, government leaders suddenly reckoned with the violence of their own institutions, and within a week had ceded control to highly organized collectives of devoted ARMY. As the world fumbled towards the abolition of prisons, police and nations, it was agreed that war and imperialism were relics of the past, to be composted into future BTS lyrics and visuals.
Kim Namjoon was delighted to be put in charge of dismantling the United Nations. It was thrillingĀ to watch ARMY experiment with different models of collective governance.Ā But as time wore on, various factions began to vie for BTSās approval and validation. Remnants of the past surfaced in peopleās hunger for a strong leader, an authority who could bless their efforts, forgive their missteps and direct them down the ācorrectā path. However welcome the disruption of the world order, it was disorienting to feel uncertain all the time. It wasnāt enough for BTS to sing about love and self-acceptance anymore. Rumors flew about each memberās preferred style of conflict transformation, leading to rising tension and competitiveness between networks.
As hard as Kim Namjoon tried to divert attention toward actual leaders of Black, trans and indigenous liberation movements, disability justice advocates and pleasure activists, he felt mounting pressure to re-assume the mantle of Our Handsome Leader. Namjoon just wanted to retire to the membersā farm co-op by the sea, tend to his crabs and write new music. But the world needed a new kind of idol, and if it didnāt get it, it might very well tear itself apartā¦
oh my god please continue this
it sounds like a major cultural shift away from hierarchical structures is critically needed for the sake of the future, but can efforts towards a more equitable world overcome the primal human need to believe in idols? because I donāt know that idols could even exist in a world that prioritized human rights, let alone horizontal, grassroots, and/or non-institutional organizing. it sounds like Namjoon is ready to give up his mantle of world leader and live again, but it doesnāt sound like the world is ready to let him, and all of BTS, go back to being regular humans. do the other members feel this conflict as well? or are they blind to the precarious way the world is balanced on their images? are they aware of the fragility of the human psyche when put in such a powerful position? the question is not just should they be here, but can they even be here long, at the top of the world. and as we know, when real idols fall, false ones rise to seize the power floating in their wake⦠how can Namjoon, as a human beneath the role of idol, face this reality that Big Hit Entertainment had never trained him forā¦
this is perfect because I wasnāt sure about the romantic storyline, but I can totally see an enemies-to-lovers arc where namjoon is initially pissed off by the young new idol group, but especially after talking to jimin, he realizes that they donāt fully understand the abuses of the capitalist system that BTS came up in. namjoon tries to discreetly reach out to the leader of the new group but instead gets challenged to a public rap battle. his response ā āthat isnāt my life anymoreā ā is met with condescension.Ā however, joonie ends up being the only one the leader can talk to when he realizes theyāre being exploited and gaslit by their company. namjoon has plenty of experience as a mentor and advocate, but he feels extra protective for some reason he canāt quite explain...
meanwhile, yoongi creates a new order of monks and retreats into the mountains with jin, hoseok, jimin and taehyung, who are overwhelmed by the pressures to assert their political power when so much hangs in the balance. and jungkook... well, jk is approached by a mysterious stranger who whispers that the world will always need idols, and if he wants to be a force for good, he doesnāt need a group behind him... in fact he might be more effective as a solo artist...
