Customer reviews of Hit The Road: India
Hit The Road: India has been released in July this year, and one of the most enjoyable things for us (among all the other very cool secret stuff we do here, you know) has been reading customer reviews every evening. Almost any platform the film is available on, people can review it or leave a small comment. And we thought of quoting some of them, both positive and negative reviews.
“This is just epic.” (iTunes, USA)
“A very intense, riveting documentary, it was funny, it was serious, it was educational, it was inspiring, we thoroughly enjoyed it.” (Vimeo)
“This was a truly enjoyable film to watch, a captivating race and journey filled with interesting people, funny moments and an infectious camaraderie.” (iTunes, USA)
“What a great way to introduce my students to India - not a travelogue - a real-life immersion in the country and its people and customs. You're pulled into the story and forget that it's a movie - you're just living it along with the two travelers. Also, a great film to discuss the difference between "plot" and "theme". I'm keeping this one in my curriculum!” (IMDb)
“I found this by chance, and loved it. great adventure, beautiful soundtrack and very nicely filmed!” (iTunes, UK)
“On the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. Can’t wait to see what these guys are up to next.” (iTunes, USA)
“Stunning cinematography captures a physical landscape brimming with spiritual, natural, and narrative flares. This adventure road film was a joy to watch and transported me to a land I one day look forward to visiting.” (Amazon)
“The film is well structured with bold intertitles introducing each major destination on the 12-day rally whilst the documentary is energetically shot and edited capturing the beautiful scenery and a sense of the ramshackle adventure the rally evokes. The eclectic soundtrack is also noteworthy with the likes of Old Apparatus and Indian Jewelry all contributing to the evocative soundscape.” (Letterboxd)
“I’ve seen a lot of documentaries, but never saw such a fabulous soundtrack” (iTunes Australia)
“A true Amazing Race. 2 friends race across India going through all sorts of adversity. A learning experience about themselves and the culture of the Indian culture. Great cinema photography, music. This is a true reality show. Well done all the way around.” (Amazon)
“If you are a fan of the made for television audiences Amazing Race, then you’ll really enjoy this movie.” (iTunes, USA) - Ric (one of the characters) kept saying during the shootings that this film is like a feature-length Amazing Race, so he’ll surely be happy to see the last two reviews.
And there are, of course, some negative reviews, for example;
“The two main characters claim they are “adventurers” and in reality they are whiny, self-centered, and arrogant.” (iTunes, USA) - So true! Keith was almost crying closer at the end of the film, and Ric was very arrogant, he’d never share a masala dosa with us.
“The music choice was generally strange throughout the film, with a moody, electronic and indian flavour that was quite dark in general. Yes that sound interesting and hipster-ish, but then you need to go the whole hog and pull it off like David Lynch.” (IMDb)
“There was almost zero interaction with the people or the culture. If I could rate it zero stars I would.” (iTunes Australia) - Well, there is a scene where a gas station attendant teaches Ric and Keith how to lick your own nose… does that count?
Please keep commenting and reviewing the film, we really enjoy reading them. You can do so on iTunes, Amazon, Vimeo, as well as on IMDb and Letterboxd.
