The Palestine Key to Freedom, created after the Israeli occupation in 1948 and subsequent displacement of millions of Palestinians. To me, the key is a hopeful sight to see, yet freedom still has not arrived for many Palestinians. In Bethlehem many have been unable to even visit Jerusalem, ever in their lives, and its only 2km the other side of the wall. In Bethlehem, I met an activist from a neighbouring town and he said he has to pass 20 checkpoints just to get home tonight. He said people have invited him to live in their country, but he loves Palestine, he belongs here with his family. (at Aida Refugee camp, Bethlehem)

Rebirth
Finally made it to Palestine. After 2 months in Israel, I feel like I can breathe more clearly. A tension release, almost tearful, I am seeing eye to eye with people. The biggest topic in this part of the world is up for discussion. No more shirking over questions, no more carrying on indifferently. Here I can feel the grief without awkwardness. Where my heart has been crying for since before I even started my trip. The land that was suffocated, one small segment here I am in. I can breathe. I don't know all the politics, I know too little of the history, here I can learn, and intergrate the discordance I feel in my emotional body. One naive traveller in a foreign land. Wanting to know what it means to be human. Earth, people, friends, enemies, dust, space.
